For those of you who have been succeeding at a healthy lifestyle while at home, the easiest way to derail your progress is a seven day bender on the beach.  What most people forget is that the beach is the perfect place to burn some calories and keep your body moving, so you can still enjoy eating all of those delicious all-inclusive meals and snacks – without feeling guilty.

Outside of the confined rooms of those small resort “gyms,” many hotels offer daily yoga sessions and plenty of other activities right on the beach.  Did you know that you can burn 300 calories an hour while scuba diving?  After you read these tips from Funjet’s expert Active Insider, David Pritchard, you’ll realize staying active on vacation is a piece of cake (pun intended).

Here are Davids top four tips for you to make your trip even more memorable:

  1. Drink lots of water. Staying hydrated is the key to having more energy, especially in the hot weather. Staying hydrated is essential to your health and is one of the easiest actions to take while on vacation. It can also help you feel fuller so you won’t be tempted to snack if you’re not really hungry.
  2. Go for walks - take in the beautiful scenery and get lost in time with a walk on the beach. Walking in sand is a great workout, and it actually helps stimulate your nervous system and organs in the abdominal region.
  3. Enjoy the food! Watching what you eat is important so you don't gain, but there is always room for compromise. My wife and I share dishes and eat smaller portions so we can enjoy all the different cuisines that are offered and not feel deprived. Plus, there are often incredible dishes available at these restaurants that are healthy and nutritious.
  4. Many all-inclusive resorts offer fresh fruit plates that can be served to you right at the beach or pool. This makes for a refreshing and healthy snack. Plus, that fresh tropical fruit is often sweet enough to taste like dessert!
  5. Dishes like this Grilled Salmon at the El Dorado Royale are great healthy dining options. Dishes like this Grilled Salmon at the El Dorado Royale are great healthy dining options.
