Fun Stuff: Welcome Bags

Welcome bags are a fun and thoughtful way to show your guests you appreciate that they’ve traveled to your wedding. Plus they’re a great alternative to fussy wedding favors—what are Jordan almonds, anyway?

There are a few important things that should be in every welcome bag—a note welcoming your guests, a schedule of any events (like cocktail parties, details on the ceremony and celebrations, excursions, or family volleyball tournaments) and key contact info. With those out of the way, we get to the fun stuff:

  • The bag – Use a canvas tote that your guests can use as a beach bag. For an extra special touch, get the bags monogramed with their name or initials.

  • Sunscreen – You can never have too much sunscreen on a tropical vacation. Throw in some fun sunglasses, too—you never know who’s going to accidentally leave theirs on the plane.

  • Snacks – Add a local flavor with treats like plantain chips, coffee, chocolate or macadamia nuts (and a bottle of local rum or tequila).

  • Aloe vera gel and aspirin – After too much sun or too many champagne toasts, your guests will appreciate these a lot.

  • Kleenex travel packs – It’s not a wedding if someone’s mom doesn’t cry.

  • Water bottles – If you’re staying at an all-inclusive resort, there’ll be plenty of place to grab a drink, but it never hurts to remind your guests to stay hydrated. You can even get custom label bottled water.

  • Beach toys—Show your pint-sized guests you didn’t forget them with a beach ball, sand toys or squirt gun.

    • Other travel-themed favors to add to your welcome bags include luggage tags, keycard holders or hand-held fans. For a small fee, resorts will place your guests’ welcome bags in their room prior to their arrival. Mail the bags directly to the resort before you leave and it will be one less detail for you to worry about - one more detail that makes your wedding unforgettable.
