Winter is coming.

And given that The Old Farmer’s Almanac – traditionally considered an expert in long-range seasonal forecasts – is predicting another blast of icy weather with above-average snowfall and below-average temperatures…well, around the Funjet offices, we’re all planning our get-out-of-winter vacations.

With all that vacation-planning expertise, we’ve decided to share our knowledge with you – because while we may not be at Winterfell, it’s best to be prepared with an escape plan.

Tips for Surviving the Polar Vortex 2.0

1. Plan in advance. Late-October through mid-December are optimal times to make your vacation plans for January through April. You’ll be able to find good values, while flights and hotels aren’t totally sold out (yet). After all, you know the saying: the early bird gets the best vacation package.

2. Be flexible. Sometimes, moving your travel dates by one or two days can mean dramatically different costs. And while it may be a bit less convenient for you to travel on certain days, we feel it can be a good trade-off for a better deal – or even a longer vacation without paying much more.

3. Take more than one trip. No, you don’t have to spend a lot to do this. Rather than taking one long vacation of 7-10 nights, take two or three shorter trips of 3-4 nights. This has several advantages: you won’t have to miss a long stretch of work days; you can break up the long winter months; you can explore more than one tropical destination; and your tan won’t fade too much in between!

There they are – our Insider tips for surviving round two of extra-cold weather with a super-sized side of snow.
