If you’re visiting Dominican Republic, make sure you get introduced to Mama Juana. And no, that is not someone's mother!
The name “Mama Juana” actually comes from type of bottle it’s typically found in. It has a sweet taste similar to port wine, and it’s usually 40 proof, so a little goes a long way. Sip it slowly and enjoy!
Dominicans claim this dark red liqueur is everything from a flu remedy to an aphrodisiac. Whether or not it has any of the medicinal properties attributed to it, Mama Juana is part of my prescription for a top-notch Dominican Republic vacation.
