When you dream about a tropical paradise, you’re probably dreaming about Kauai. Literally--the island’s iconic Wailua Falls were part of the opening credits to the Fantasy Island TV show. The ancient mountains of Hawaii’s “Garden Isle” are draped in lush green from the cliffs of the North Shore to the coffee farms near Poipu Beach. Some of the island’s most dramatic landscapes are only accessible by sea or air. Check out the Funjet Insider's dreamy infographic about this fabulous island:

If you’re planning a vacation in Kauai, here are a few of the most beautiful, must-see places:

  • Kilauea Lighthouse stands on a scenic point at the northernmost tip of the island. The view of the rugged Napali Coast makes this a perfect spot for photos. It’s also a great place for whale watching, especially between January and April.
  • Only a few miles north of Lihue, the Wailua River drops 80 feet in the dramatic double cascade of Wailua Falls.
  • The west side of the island is dominated by the breathtaking Waimea Canyon is 14 miles long, a mile wide and more than 3,600 feet deep. Take in the panoramic view from the top or hike through the canyon’s many trails.
  • Near beautiful Poipu beach on the south shore, is one of the most photographed spots on Kauai, the Spouting Horn blowhole. Ocean waves crash into a natural lava tube resulting in a huge spout of water during large swells.
  • Despite being the island’s most populated area, the “coconut coast” of the East side is still full of natural beauty. Take a boat ride up the Wailua River to the Fern Grotto, or splash around in the two lava rock enclosed ocean pools of Lydgate Beach Park.
