A vacation in Maui is, by nature, an amazing experience that you're going to love. And knowing a bit about the island destination is one way that you can be sure to enhance your vacation so that you don't miss out on those perfectly tailor-made things that you'll fall in love with. Some other good things to know about Maui vacations:
- Maui has about 276 days with sunshine every year.
- However, especially during the winter months, you might have an hour or two of rain in the afternoon - but the rest of the day will be perfectly sunny.
- Average temperatures near the coast are much warmer than higher elevations. Pack a light sweater if you're going hiking!
- On the opposite end of the island from Haleakala (also called "the top of the head" to those in the know - just look at a map and you'll see why!), the West Maui Mountains are home to amazing rainforests. Explore Io Valley State Park for great hiking and truly awe-inspiring views of the Io Needle and the Pacific Ocean beyond.
- You can take a Bike Safari & Wine Tour. This is a super unique excursion, in which you bike down 600 feet of Haleakala, and tour Maui's only winery - including a wine tasting (my favorite part!).
- Lahaina is an old whaling village that now has great shopping and dining, right on the ocean. It's one of my favorite places to stroll in the evenings before dinner.
