After my adventures in Hawaii, I was so excited to plan my next trip as the Ultimate Funjetter! So, it was off to Negril and Montego Bay, Jamaica. I brought my sister, Tiffany, with me this time and we had such a blast.

We arrived at the airport super early on our departure day – so early that the security lines weren’t even open yet. (Who knew they actually closed?) But eventually it opened up and we made it through without a hitch. I liked that we flew via Newark because I got to see the New York City skyline as we flew by! I’ve never been there so that was fun and really just made me feel so excited to be on another travel adventure.

When we arrived in Jamaica, we were greeted by a representative from Club MoBay named Marylynn. Club MoBay is the best. We got to skip all the longest lines and they gave us really tasty Rum Punch. They even gave us some in to-go cups so we could take them along on the ride to Negril. It’s about a 2-hour drive and it was so pretty! Note: they drive on the left side of the road in Jamaica, which I didn’t know, so at first I was thinking, whoa…where are you driving, buddy?! (But of course we made it safe and sound.)

The drive to Negril is beautiful with all the greenery, water and mountains. Parts of Jamaica remind me of Cinque Terre in Italy because of all the colorful houses and natural beauty. There are also goats everywhere! Our driver, Bernard, told us that the goats all have owners and they’re even given as gifts on special occasions.

Our room at the Riu Palace Tropical Bay

We stayed at the Riu Palace Tropical Bay in Negril. The lovely Carol greeted us when we arrived. That night we ate dinner at the Negril Restaurant and it was so good! We at a ton because we were hungry after a long travel day and it was just what we needed. Then we hung out on the beach and enjoyed watching the performances. There were acrobats, and a super-talented woman spinning four hula hoops at once while juggling. There were fire dancers and what I can only describe as acrobatic pirate dance. It was entertaining and we danced a lot!

I liked the Riu Palace Tropical Bay. It definitely is an active resort with a lot of activities. I did water aerobics several days, which was cool because we did it right in the ocean instead of the pool! We also went kayaking and played sand volleyball during the day. We met a bunch of people at the bar and everyone did “The Train,” which is a shot of juice, then a shot of beer, then a shot of something else, and finally the last one which tastes like rubbing alcohol. This is not for the faint of heart!

Whether or not you choose to partake in The Train, everyone should definitely have dinner at Krystal. It’s one of the a la carte restaurants and it is delicious fusion cuisine. All the dining at the resort was great. The Japanese restaurant had good sushi, and I had the biggest lobster ever at the Steak House!

One of my favorite parts about staying in Negril was the stars at night. They were incredible – the most stars I have ever seen! Make sure you spend time at the beach at night watching the night sky in Negril. I saw two shooting stars one night when we spent quite some time on the beach stargazing.

I could go on and on about our time in Jamaica! Stay tuned for our adventures at YS Falls and the Black River; the catamaran and at Rick’s Café; The Chukka Ultimate Thrill-Seeker; and our time in Montego Bay!

Have you ever been to Negril? What were your favorite things to do there?
