There are over one hundred miles of beach in Vallarta-Nayarit, but that doesn’t mean it’s quantity over quality. As I’ve mentioned before, the beaches are incredible! There’s a beach for every taste here on the laid back Pacific coast, and now through May is the best time to visit them. I sat down with Bea Barbero of Marival Resort & Suites to find out which of the many beaches she recommends.

The bohemian vibe of Sayulita make its beaches perfect for surfing or just laying back and enjoying the sun.  If you’re less interested in getting wet and instead want to take a romantic walk along the shore, I recommend Nuevo Vallarta Beach. It’s clean, friendly, and not as crowded as some other area beaches. You might even get lucky and see tortoises coming to shore to lay eggs or see the babies hatching!

Hidden Beach

But the area’s most spectacular beach is definitely ‘Hidden’ Beach of the Marieta Islands. Officially known as the Playa de Amor (“Beach of Love”), you’ll have to swim through a short tunnel to get to this small but stunning beach surrounded by the island’s rocky shore. The Marieta Islands are a protected national park, so a park permit is required to visit, but several local tour operators offer day trips and can take care of the details for you.
