Do you ever find yourself pining for the day you can wrap yourself in a sweater and walk through a pumpkin patch?  Do you take long drives just to see the mosaic of reds, oranges, and yellows painting the trees?  Do you drool at pins of chic, rustic barn weddings in fall, but think, “there’s no way I’d ever get married in a barn?"  Well, autumn-lover, we’re here to tell you that you don’t have be in a barn or even in cold-weather to have a fall wedding.  If you’re having a destination wedding, there are plenty of ways to bring a little harvest season to the tropics. Here are seven ways to turn your destination wedding into a fall wedding.

1. Incorporate autumn colors into all facets of your wedding day.

The common thought when it comes to destination weddings is that everything should be in bright, vibrant colors to blend well with the scenery.  While it undoubtedly looks gorgeous, there are not many colors that don't look sublime when contrasted against the powdery white sands of the Caribbean.  In fact, you will find that some of the trendiest autumn tones right now are the perfect match to your tropical wedding.  Try dusty blue, blush, mauve, mulberry, teal, or a mix of navy blue and burnt orange, and work it into the bridesmaids dresses, groomsmen suits and boutonnieres, table dressings, and flowers.  Check out the pictures below for some inspiration on how to paint your wedding autumn!

2. Set up a s'mores bar and have a bonfire on the beach.

Isn’t the best part about camping out in fall getting to sit around a toasty fire with friends and family eating the greatest sandwiched dessert known to man - s’mores?  Bring that special moment to your destination wedding!  After dinner and dancing, some resorts in Mexico and Caribbean offer a beach campfire so you and your guests can wind down with a little treat.  The occasion is private, and some resorts even provide a full bar for you and your guests, so the party doesn’t have to end!

3. Make a fall-inspired signature cocktail.

The choices are endless with this one, and you can be totally creative with what you want.  You can go classic and choose a cider-based drink or something with the forever-loved pumpkin spice flavor.  Or try a hybrid concoction with a local fruit or mix-in, like a hot chocolate and rum cream combo.  Browse below for some yummy ideas!

4. Go rustic with wooden decor.

Nothing says rustic like wooden decor, and it’s actually a wonderful addition to your destination wedding backdrop.  The driftwood look with painted white lettering is a great complement to your tropical setting, but feel free to mix it up!

5. Make your tables pop with fall accents.

The tables are one of the best places to showcase your wedding theme.  To go big with the autumn look, follow a similar color scheme with those fall trends mentioned before, and don’t be afraid to ask your venue to add elements of the season to the centerpieces and runners.  Acorns, pumpkins, leaves, you name it!  At many resorts, you ask and you shall receive.  Plus pumpkins are grown widely across the Mexico/Caribbean regions, so don’t even worry about having to ship any in.  As an added touch, ask if it’s possible to paint the pumpkins in elegant designs that are sure to catch people’s attention.

6. Be sent off with sparklers.

Sparkler send-offs are quickly becoming a tradition for fall weddings, and it’s possible to have it at your destination wedding, too!  After the "I do's," have your loved ones welcome you into your new stage of life in style!  You won’t be able to transport sparklers by plane, so ask your resort or venue if they are able to provide them for you.  Not only is it a cute touch, it’s also ripe with incredible photo opportunities.

7. Choose a resort with a diverse decor selection.

Whether your wedding is at a resort or an off-property venue, if you crave the autumn style, you’ll need to choose a location that has a diverse decor selection.  Not all venues can accommodate special requests, so you’ll have to pay close attention to their decor packages.  If you’re working with a Weddings by Funjet concierge, just ask her!  She is an expert in what limitations (if any) a resort will have and where the best location is to make your fall wedding dreams a reality.

Just remember, you don’t have to limit yourself to the tropical theme for your destination wedding. If your dream is to have a cozy, autumn wedding on the beach, just ask!  Our goal is that you have exactly what you want on your big day, so feel free to swap that barn for an exotic beach and bring fall to the islands.
