I recently had the pleasure of working with one of our latest brides who got married at the fabulous Finest Playa Mujeres Resort & Spa this past January. Hannah and Eddie asked their loved ones to escape the brutal winter weather in the North East and escape to Mexico to celebrate them tying the knot! From start to finish, Hannah’s wedding experience was just as beautiful as her love story.
Meet Hannah + Eddie.
Puppy love might be the best way to explain the start of Hannah and Eddie’s love story. Their mutual passion for man’s best friend brought them together to create a forever kind of love. Hannah and Eddie first crossed paths a few years ago when Hannah was fostering an 8 week old puppy and Eddie applied to adopt him. She was in Maine, he was in Boston. When Eddie’s application for adoption was approved, they met halfway to begin the adoption process. The two kept in touch and got to know each other better. Fast forward several months and Hannah recalls Eddie bonding with her own rescue dog, that’s when she knew he was the one.
When Hannah and Eddie got engaged, they knew right away that they wanted something out of the norm. Used to the traditional wedding seasons of Summer and Fall in Maine, they wanted to create an event that their guests count down the days to! A winter-get-away vacation and wedding all in one, Hannah and Eddie were excited to spend the entire wedding weekend with their loved ones. Hannah was thrilled to share her take on a destination wedding:
“A destination wedding isn't a ONE day memory. You get to spend a few days with some of the most important people in your life and really get to spend time with them. You also have your entire extended family on vacation, when does that ever happen? We were fortunate to have an incredible amount of guests travel with us which made for a once-in-a-lifetime experience that we will talk about forever.”
When Hannah first came to Weddings by Funjet, she had a vision set for what she wanted her wedding day and décor to look like. Her biggest challenge was finding the right vendors and working with the right connections to get what she truly wanted. I had the pleasure of working with Hannah to connect the dots and take her creative ideas to preferred vendors in the Cancun area.
Deep jewel tones and a creative fun edge were the inspirations that led to a perfectly customized wedding for the couple. From Pineapple centerpieces to agate place cards, this event was truly one of a kind! Hannah did the best job of taking her creative ideas and running with them, turning her wedding into a magical moment that was captured by Savannah Loftus Photography.
The entire wedding day for Hannah and Eddie was a magical experience. The weather was perfect, bright blue sunny skies and sparkling Caribbean waters. The excitement of tying the knot and saying “I do” could be felt throughout the entire wedding party. The girls celebrated their excitement by popping champagne and dancing around in their tropical robes while the men gathered together and enjoyed drinks and good conversation while getting ready.
When asked about her favorite part of the day, Hannah’s answer will make anyone’s heart melt,
“Rowan, our son, had not seen either of us since the morning. He would not stop fussing through the beginning of our ceremony so Eddie and I gave each other "the look" and without speaking to each other but totally on the same page: Eddie scooped Rowan up from the front row and he stayed in Eddie's arms for the entire ceremony. Rowan touched Eddie's vows while he read them to me and poked at the microphone while he was speaking. I got to look at my two boys throughout the entire ceremony which was a dream come true. Eddie passed Rowan over to me and we walked down the aisle as a family, all together, which is my favorite place to be.”
Following their ceremony on the beach, the festivities moved to the Grand Palapa where guests enjoyed a cocktail hour with the talents of a Caribbean Trio and overlooked the Caribbean Sea from the deck of the Grand Palapa.
After a delicious 4 course dinner was served, guests enjoyed listening to bridal party speeches and watching the first dance between the newlyweds. Hannah and Eddie even took a personalized spin on the traditional wedding cake by opting for cake flavored shots for their guests to toast to! The partied carried off into the night with an awesome dance party atmosphere provided by DJ Mannia Cancun.
To this day, Hannah, Eddie & Rowan recall their wedding day as the best day ever. The time they spent with their loved ones is irreplaceable and the memories made will last a lifetime.
“Talk about FUN. So much fun that I can't even put it into words. I will let the photos do the talking. There was not an aspect of the day that was stressful or negative, it was amazing and I am forever grateful to those who made it possible and who helped along the way.”
Hannah had some excellent advice to offer to anyone considering a destination wedding:
“If you are considering a destination wedding, you first and foremost need to let go of the idea that everyone you want to be there probably won’t be. If you do not feel like you can get past this, a destination wedding is not for you. I talked to my immediate family and the ones I could not imagine my wedding day without and so did Eddie. Once we got confirmation that those key people could and would attend, we thought of everyone else as a "bonus". Every time we got a "yes" card in the mail we celebrated and got us that more excited but did not expect anyone to attend.”
