We know the only thing (besides a delayed flight or overpriced airport drinks) that can get in your way of excited vacation vibes is the dread that comes with packing. Whether you’re traveling across the country or across the globe, we suggest you check out our packing tips before venturing to your next destination wedding!
Don’t over pack. We know you’ve heard this one before, but seriously, don’t do it! There’s only one of you, so packing 10 outfits per day is not helping anyone. Save room for souvenirs and have peace of mind from all the laundry you’re saving yourself from doing post travel. Before you start throwing your closet in a suitcase, consider the destination and the events you plan to attend. If you have several formal occasions during your trip, packing a couple pairs of heels is understandable. However, if you are going to a wedding in Mexico, you likely won’t need much more than flip flops and a pair of wedges. Likewise, there’s no need for a ton of outfits if you’ll be hanging around a pool all day; when you’ll likely be living in a swim suit and cover up. Also consider the amenities your hotel will include in your room—you can likely leave a lot of toiletries behind. The best part—if you’re able to bring less, you might get away with only bringing a carry-on suitcase instead of checking a bag, which will save you tons!
Pack for the destination. This one sounds obvious but do check the weather and plan for the season your traveling during. If you’re traveling to Cabo in December, you may find yourself a little chilly when sipping your margarita watching the sunset. If you’re traveling to a tropical destination, especially during the country’s rainy season, pack beauty products that protect against humidity. Make sure to pack a sunscreen with a higher level of SPF, to protect against the suns harsh rays if you’re headed south of the border. If you are headed somewhere where you plan to catch some rays don’t forget sunglasses, hats and maybe some aloe vera—in case the drinks are flowing and you forget to reapply sunscreen. Make sure to check out TSA rules and regulations for carrying on liquids.
Think versatility. Since we already told you not to over pack, we want to help make sure you can still come up with enough cute outfits! Pack pieces that can be worn with different outfits or serve different purposes. A shawl or wrap can be worn out to dinner and double as a blanket on a chilly plane ride. Be sure to pack things that you can dress up or down. Rompers and sundresses are great pieces to wear casually with flip flops or add jewelry and wedges for a more dressed up look.
Must haves. Before you get caught up in packing all the fun things like swim suits and sun hats, don’t forget the essentials: medicine, reading glasses, travel itinerary, small bills, phone charger and above anything else—if you’re leaving the country, don’t forget your passport!
We hope our guide takes away some of your packing stress and sends you into vacation feeling relaxed and ready.
