    Beautiful beach

We are members and the First Club there is great. The bartenders, Angel,Anders, and Eder were so friendly and accommodating! The beach is spectacular! Food was adequate. Not gourmet but lots of fresh food and always something for everyone. Rooms were clean and in good working order. Sorry to hear they will close this resort to build a high rise. It will ruin the ambiance of this beautiful resort

    Beautiful resort

This resort is very well maintained, the staff is incredibly friendly and go out of their way to make your stay the best. A great resort for couples and families with children, evening shows made the stay more enjoyable .You can relax by the pool or on the beach with a cold drink.

Terrible Experience – Not Worth the Price

I usually don’t write reviews, but after the experience we had at this hotel, I feel obligated to warn future guests about the numerous issues we encountered. Let’s start with the food. It was absolutely terrible. The meals were so bad that we ended up leaving the hotel and going into Playa del Carmen multiple times just to find something edible. The food tasted like fabric, and a lot of it was either undercooked or incredibly dry. I’m not a picky eater, but this was genuinely hard to stomach. The hotel does themed nights, but the selection was nearly identical every night. With so few alternatives, you’re stuck with whatever they serve. Service was another problem. At every meal, we had to wait for water because they don’t proactively serve it. Every time, we had to wait at least 10 minutes before someone would ask if we needed more water. It's a small thing, but it became incredibly frustrating. As for the entertainment, every night there’s a show with loud music that makes it impossible to sleep. If you have trouble sleeping, you’ll need earplugs because the bass is constantly rumbling at 90 dB. It’s completely disruptive, especially for a hotel that’s supposed to offer relaxation. There’s also a gymnastic session held by the pool during lunchtime, and the noise level was so loud that it was impossible to have a conversation while eating. It was louder than normal speaking voices, making it incredibly uncomfortable. The AC was another issue. You can adjust the temperature, but the fan is always stuck on low. So no matter what temperature you set, the room never cools down properly, and it stays warmer than 24.5°C. It’s really uncomfortable, especially in a place where you expect to sleep in comfort. After about 5 days at the hotel, we encountered a serious problem with the door card reader. The lock on our door was out of batteries, and it stopped working. We had to wait 20 minutes in line at the reception (since there’s no dedicated help desk for already-checked-in guests), and then they told us to wait another 30 minutes for a repair technician. After an hour, no one had come, and we had to return to the reception again. By this point, I was sweaty from the gym, had no clothes to change into, and couldn't take a shower because of the ongoing delay. It was extremely frustrating and inconvenient. On top of all of that, the Wi-Fi was another headache. While it worked decently in the rooms, it barely worked at the pool area and didn’t work at all at the beach. Even when it did work, you had to log in to the system multiple times a day, which added even more frustration to an already unpleasant stay. The gym was a huge disappointment as well. It’s incredibly minimal, with only three machines, three treadmills, and a very limited selection of free weights. It’s honestly worse than some cheap DIY home gyms and certainly not what you expect from an all-inclusive hotel. Bottom line: The only redeeming feature of this hotel is the wildlife – you’ll frequently see iguanas and birds around the property. However, this is commonplace for almost all hotels at Playacar. If this is your first time visiting Mexico and you have low standards, you might not mind this place. However, for anyone else, I would strongly suggest avoiding this hotel. I wish I could give it a lower score, just to save other travelers from the same frustrating experience.

Nice resort, that is great value for your money!

I have traveled to Allegro for spring break with young children, and my mother who has mobility issues. We have previously stayed at Barceló Maya complex, and Occidental Xcaret and Cozumel, as well as multiple Iberostar properties, so this review is comparing Allegro to those properties. We requested rooms closer to the beach, since my mother can’t walk far. Our request was not honored, so I was initially worried how she’ll be able to get around. No need to worry, however: resort is very small, with minimal walking involved. It is very handicapped friendly: there are no stairs. Everything is very close. Even buffet, that is located on second floor, has a wheelchair accessible ramp going to it. I 100 percent recommend this resort to people with mobility issues. We were family of 7, so had 2 separate rooms. One in building 31, the other one in building 32. I ended up very much liking this location: it is very private, quiet, half way between beach and buffet restaurant. We did end up having air conditioning problems in building 32. We had to switch rooms to the one in building 54, and new room was perfect! Nice and cool, with hot shower, and everything in the room working well. As of note, we did talk to manager when we were having AC issues, and he said rooms are set up to maintain temperatures of 23–23.5 Celsius. So if you are like me, and like cooler room temperatures, take this into consideration. Also, rooms are definitely on a smaller side compared to other resorts. Room would be very comfortable for 2 adults, maybe 2 adults and a small kid. But with 2 adults and 2 kids, or 3 adults, it is still doable, but definitely gets tight. I was really grateful that resort has an option of bringing rollaway bed to the room, and one was provided to us. We all really liked the beach: wide, clean, much nicer than at Barcelo, Occidental, or Iberostar Paraiso complex. The ladies serving beverages on the beach were amazing: they came very frequently asking for drink requests. This was by far the best beverage service compared to any resorts we’ve been to in Mexico . All staff members we’ve encountered at the resort were very polite, friendly, and helpful. Ricardo and Isaac Ortega were our favorite waiters—just the nicest people ever! While multiple previous reviewers complained that front desk staff was rude, we did not find that at all. Both night clerk checking us in, night manager that we saw when AC stopped working, and daytime manager Victor were super nice and kind to us. Staff at restaurants was definitely superior to both Barcelo and Occidental: very friendly, and constantly bringing us beverages. We had an opportunity to eat at Italian, Oriental, and Mexican restaurants. While service and ambiance were wonderful everywhere, we really did not care for the food at Italian and Oriental, and between 7 of us we pretty much had every item on the menu. So if you are not able to get specialty restaurant reservation, I honestly would not be upset, since we all thought that buffet was much better. I would not call food at this resort gourmet. It is also definitely not as plentiful as at Barcelo or Iberostar, but you will not go hungry. There are plenty of grilled meats and fish options, fresh fruits and vegetables, good variety of soups. Yogurt, oatmeal, and omelets in the morning. Very tasty ice cream. We liked the food, and had zero complaints. We really liked that this hotel had nice mixture of guests from North America, Europe, lots of guests from Argentina and Chile. My kids made a lot of friends, and really enjoyed themselves. If you like wildlife, you are in for a very nice surprise: lots of coatis, agoutis, iguanas, cats, and even beach dog who came at night. So fun for kids! I had a massage by the beach, and really enjoyed it, and thought price was reasonable. There is definitely not as much entertainment and kids activities as at Iberostar or Barcelo, but there are still quite a few. Beach volleyball is an all day, every day thing, so if that’s your sport, you will have a great time. Overall we really liked our stay. Despite AC problems, I still give this resort a 5 star review, because all our problems were addressed promptly, and I definitely felt that staff was doing their best to make sure our stay was enjoyable. Thank you Allegro!

    Much Needed Vacay

This cute little resort is tucked away in a charming, gated Suburb Playacar. Staff were very pleasant and helpful, food was always fresh and delicious. Their meal times were lengthy to give all guests a chance to dine. Pools were clean and refreshing with plenty of loungers-all in perfect condition. The grounds are beautiful and exciting to see local wildlife - the Coatl, the Agouti and many lizards. Found it intriguing that there is a staff who carries a falcon around to scare away the pesty black birds. The rooms had a comfy hammock and 2 chairs to lounge on the porch. Inside was cozy but not a lot of space to put away luggage. Big screen tv with lots of English channels. Beds were firm with lots of pillows. The sink and mirror was outside the bathroom which was handy for 2 sisters travelling together. The bathroom was clean and had a shower only - unfortunately very low water pressure and virtually no hot water. Varied activities in the pool, my favourite was the Mariachi band - they were fantastic! There was a movie and a show almost every night - my favourite was the Michael Jackson tribute. I didn't make it to the little Discotech. The beach had an abundance of loungers. The 1st day water was quite choppy and there was a lot of seaweed on the shore but we braved the waters anyway. The rest of the time, beach was gorgeous and we could walk very far out enjoying the gentle roll of the waves. Just a 2 minute walk down the street was a great outdoor shopping mall, with lots of vendors and even a Starbucks. Playa Del Carmen is only about 10min drive away....taxi charged us 300 MXN Pesos each way which we thought was expensive but we enjoyed shopping on '5th Avenue'. We booked our own excursion through the Air Transat app, with Viator Tours, to Chichen Itza, Valladolid and Cenote Chichikan for $160 CDN each. Included all transportation, entrance to all, a buffet lunch and Tequila taste testing. Other excursions I've been on we were provided drinks on the bus - water and usually a shot of tequila, unfortunately none were provided. We really enjoyed ourselves (myself, sister, brother, sister-in-law, adult nephew). There's a good possibility my sister and I will be back next year!
