Great Scuba Trip!
I came here to do my scuba certification with Scubaquatics Jamaica. They provide scuba, snorkeling, and water sports for most of the resort. They are all fantastic, especially Richard (Ghandi). Having spent most of my time doing my scuba cert with him, I am incredibly appreciative of his fun, thorough education, and guidance on multiple dives. Runaway Bay has beautiful reefs, Spanish Anchors, Wrecks, and more to explore. The rest of the scuba and water sports staff were just as kind, funny, and experienced. I was pleasantly surprised by this hotel and all it offered. The rooms and grounds were impeccably clean. I regularly smelled the cleaning liquids throughout the buildings. A good marker for me is how clean the in room coffee pot is and this one was spotless! It is notable that as a beachfront property during the rainy season mold and dampness are inevitable. The staff do an incredible job keeping it all at bay. The buffet was fantastic, with generous options. I wasn't a huge fan of the non-Jamaican dishes as they were decent quality but didn't hold a candle to the impressive Jamaican fare. My advice is to skip the pasta and such and go for the traditional Caribbean foods like dasheen, mackerel, curry goat, rice and peas, bananas, and yams. The charcuterie at the buffet was also lovely. The meats and seafood were fresh. The breakfasts were hearty and hot ranging again from full-english fix-ins to ackee and saltfish. I did not do any a la carte dining (it wasn't needed!). I did eat at the Jerk Shack poolside which got incredibly busy but was very tasty. The live musicians and DJs were excellent. There's a disco/party from 11pm-2am in the Village that I didn't attend but heard great things about. I however thoroughly enjoyed the cellist, singers, bands, and steel pan each evening during my stay even as a young person (late 20s early 30s). The bars are excellent with heavy pours and balanced cocktails all around that keep the vibes high. The staff were lovely. I have no complaints and will most definitely be back.

Bahia Principe Grand is awesome
Excellent property, great service, great food, great staff and overall awesome. The beach, the pool, the buffet, the restaurant, the ambience were all top class. The landscaping was beautiful .We had an issue with our room. There was a water leak in the bathroom and the door key wasn’t opening. We reported it and they sent someone to attend to it and upgraded us to a new room.. other than that one incident, the stay was excellent . Remember to tip the staff as a way of appreciation of their service.

Bad experience
We booked an adjoining room with our daughter, son-in-law and grandson. We did not receive adjoining rooms, as requested. Our room adjoined with a couple that screamed at each (not in a pleasant way!) in the middle of the night and during the day. The woman was screaming so loudly that she woke our grandson - 6 doors down. We called security multiple times but nothing was resolved. The crib provided was not safe for an 11 month old. We requested a different crib several times, each time we were assured that someone was coming to fix the problem. It was fixed on our second last night. The hotel room are dated and worn out. There were holes in our blackout curtains. The name Grand should be removed from the hotel name.

This is a 3 star resort at best
Our room was a health hazard, full of black mold. On night one, I went to turn off the bedside lamp & when I looked inside it was covered in black mold. I looked at the others around the room & they also had it. I called the front desk & they had someone come to change all of the lamp shades the next day. On night 2, there was water on the floor that appeared to be leaking down the wall. We cleaned it up & left a towel on the floor & it appeared to have stopped. On night 3, I was washing my face & dropped something under the sink & that was covered in mold. We moved rooms the next night. Having to deal with these issues, ruined 3 days of our vacation. That area of the hotel should be quarantined. Guests should not be allowed to stay in those rooms. Other than that, food was subpar. Cross contamination at the buffet would not allow our friend with food allergies to eat anything at the resort. Serving spoons that are used for meat & seafood are also used for the vegetable dishes so our vegetarian friend also didn't feel comfortable with the food. Drink selection was terrible. This is definitely not a 5 star resort.
