Lot's of Mosquitos in our room!!

Our room was filled with mosquitos and had musty odor. Multiple requests to treat the room for mosquitos were unsuccessful. The food at the Bugami buffet was terrible. The Orquidea buffet was much better. Both free buffets had plenty of food.. Make sure you reserve your free dinner reservations in the other restuarants early. The beach was beautiful and inviting, with plenty of seats. And beachside restuatants, The front desk staff was very unsympathetic to issues during the long check-in. Overall, I would not recommend Grand Punta Cana unless there were major changes to the front desk staff and housekeeping. Otherwise, I would recommend staying at one of their other pricier resorts to avoid poor customer service and bad housekeeping

Everything was brilliant, except for the food. Don't go if you're veggie or vegan

The resort is made up of several hotels which all share the same grounds. I think theres 5 hotels on site in total. If you are in the more luxury ones or the adult-only ones, you get access to more luxurious buffets and pool areas. We stayed in the more basic, main part of the hotel (Grand Punta Cana) and they gave us a free upgrade as they knew it was our honeymoon. Our room was lovely. The pools and the beach were sooo nice, glorious white sand, the sea was so warm and the pools were the perfect temperature and clean. Worth noting that people claim the sun loungers with their towels first thing in the morning. If you're not claiming a bed by 8am around the beach or the main pool, you won't get a chair in the shade. However we learnt that some of the other pools, are much more quiet and you could get a shaded sun lounger anytime, and the bars at them were a lot quieter. Another side note, they offer loads of entertainment which is great if that's what you are after. If you want quiet, you're better off at one of the other pools probably, or maybe it's not the place for you. They have some good shows in the evening in the theatre for some evening entertainment. I did however feel they were lacking an area with some live, maybe acoustic, music for adults. Now onto the food. Before I start, we noticed that most of the guests were from the US and Canada. I've seen a lot of reviews saying the food was good however as Brits, and every other Brit we spoke to whilst we were there, our experience was not so positive. This may sound very snobby and ignorant, but I can only assume all the positive reviews are perhaps because the standards of food aren't quite as high in North America (never been to Canada) as they are in the UK, especially since we are used to going on holidays to places like France, Italy, Spain and Greece where the food is amazing. If I'm completely honest, we actually thought our plane food was better than some of what we ate at the hotel. Much of the food at the buffet looks good, but it's a lucky dip whether it's hot or not and unfortunately with some foods if its cold, then its ruined. On the first day I had scrambled eggs and it was horrible - how can you mess that up! But we learnt on the second day that there's a bit where they cook the food in front of you fresh and you can request what eggs you want etc, so that solved the problem. The fruit was good. None of the desserts were that great although they looked good. We found that toast, eggs and bacon was the best way to go really for breakfast. For lunch and dinner, there's loads of options so you can find stuff to eat but it kind of felt like eating for fuel rather than because the food was nice. Also there's no where to eat outside which would've been nice. We found that we kind of wanted to get in and out of the buffet as quickly as possible. If you're veggie/vegan there will be extremely little for you here that is any good. They almost looked confused when you asked for an omelette without ham. At the main pool theres a snack bar which sells burgers, fries and stuff - it was vile. It says on the sign they sell pizza and veggie burgers too but they didn't for us. We stayed at the hotel for 11 nights, and that allowed us into 5 a la carte restaurants included in the price (I think you get 4 per week). The fish market and the greek restaurant were good, and so was the teppanyaki Japanese restaurants. The Mediterranean one and the Italian ones were like a 4 or 5 out of 10. One thing that made us laugh at one of the restaurants was the desert options was a profiterole or cheese. I ordered the profiterole and I got given a mousse. It didn't even closely resemble a profiterole, I guess a translation error perhaps - it was okay still. The bars are good although cocktails will vary each time depending on where you get them from etc. But they were always good - no complaints on the drinks! Also the resort is huge. They have like golf buggy type busses however which can take you where you want to go. We were told they come every 10 minutes, but they are much more frequent then that so that was good. Also if you are coming from Europe, expect to give tips. The luggage guy who took our bags to our room stood their looking at us for a tip (which I did). The staff work really hard out there and seem to be working everyday, or at least we had the same cleaner for 11 days in a row, so they deserve it. Also don't drink the tap water, they refill your fridge with 6 bottles of water everyday, and the water at the bar is filtered and you can fill up your water bottles. We noticed a lot of people had brought flasks with them which was a good idea, you could get them to put the cocktails and beers in them to keep your drinks cool - wish we had thought of that! The ice is all safe too and the salads, fruit etc or at least we didn't have any issues anyway.

    Worst Resort

Here I am writing to express my serious concern with this property. We recently were blessed with a Baby girl about 7 months back plus we wanted to celebrate our son's BirthDay and it was our wedding anniversary so we decided to go somewhere to celebrate and relax. We took our parents with us as well. We selected this resort since it was showing high ratings and pics were looking nice. When we went there we were shocked and surprised at how bad this resort is. It deserves probably 2 star ratings or less. Customer Service is the worst. This was supposed to be our memorable and relaxing stay but instead it turned out to be one of our worst and horrible vacations. Please find attached pics which will tell the detailed story of our vacation. We were already exhausted from traveling with 2 kids so when we arrived at the resort we were hoping for a smooth check in process and better relaxing room but instead we had to wait very long to get both the rooms. We all went to the room with all the luggage and when we arrived at the room both the wristbands were not properly programmed as it was not working to open the rooms. Porters had to use their bands to open the room and they asked us to go to the front desk and get the wristbands programmed instead of them bringing it for us. When we entered the room it was really really bad. The Bathtub was so bad that it looked like it was 50 yrs old. Mosquitos and bugs all over the room. Phone was not working so we couldn't even talk to the front desk. Toilet flush was not working. Shower was not working. In short, these rooms were not livable at all. I don't know why they were assigned to us.Drain in the bathtub was not working either. We had to walk too long to go back to the front desk as the pick up train was taking too much time. When we went to the front desk the staff was not helpful at all. When we got angry they gave us the keys for the other 2 rooms to check it out so we walked long back to check these other rooms and surprisingly the key for 1 room was not working and another room someone was already living in so we don't know how the front desk gave us the key for that room. We had to walk long back to the front desk and this time we were very furious. We asked for a manager but staff said there is no manager. He was laughing at us thinking we are doing these things intentionally. We just wanted to live on this property and get the full refund but at the same time we were very much tired and exhausted also. Somehow they gave us 2 other renovated rooms but again when we reached there we noticed one of the room AC was not working so we submitted a request to get it checked . Fridge was not working either in 1 room. We had to use another room fridge to keep baby food. We were so tired that we just wanted to end our vacation as soon as possible. It was almost 9 pm by the time we settled in the new room. Our whole day was wasted. We had 2 babies and elderly parents. All the ala carte restaurants were fully booked (we are all vegetarian)so we had to use Buffet only for all 5 days. All of us got so many mosquito bites that at one point we got worried of Zika Virus and Malaria. Even the room service was not getting done on time and properly. There was no changing the dirty bed sheets or towels. Not vacuuming the floors either. It was a very unhygienic stay here. Foul Smells at the Buffet not good food. We would not recommend this Resort to anyone till things are fixed.

    hotel is good..beware of sales

we enjoyed the hotel service, food, room, beach. But they asked us to be in their privilege club ,pressure us in making a impulsive decision to pay at least 25k at the table was bizarre. We were ridiculed and disrespected when we did not show interest in being their privilege club member. I understand the sales and marketing part of it but no-one should be forced to make a decision at the spot. The sales manager accused us of lying about our vacation spending.

    Great

This resort was great except for the sand fleas and mosquitoes. It's not the hotels fault, but maybe they can spray so there is less. We came home with so many itchy bites. We would like express our gratitude to Yazitza, the waitress in the lobby. She went above and beyond for us, she's great to talk to and will help you as much as she can. She was always there for us, and when she wasn't there, she made sure her replacement took care of us.
