Great but no distilled water for CPAP
We thoroughly enjoyed our stay, great food and staff. The only inconvenience is that there was no distilled water available for a CPAP.

Barcelo Maya Beach Resort
The Barcelo Maya Beach Resort was beautiful and the staff were friendly. The resort was a bit too large and crowded. The food at the buffet and snack bars was subpar (focus was on providing a ton of options but not mastering any). A few of the restaurants were decent.

BEST Buffet Beach server - Selene
We have been 10 times and received the greatest service at the Buffet Beach at the Maya Beach Reaort. Selene Zurita was by far an exemplary example of what customer service means. She learned our requests and always had things ready for us. Hardworking and happy.

Disappointing stay
We are currently halfway through our stay at Barceló Maya Beach, and unfortunately, it has been a huge disappointment. The rooms are outdated, small, and poorly maintained. The power has gone out multiple times, including while I was showering myself and my kids. To make matters worse, I stepped on a piece of glass or plastic in the shower, causing a deep, bleeding gash. The mini-fridge wasn’t working on arrival and had to be replaced, though they continued replenishing drinks. The food situation is one of the worst I’ve encountered at an all-inclusive. The buffets are chaotic, messy, and filled with subpar food. Trying to get a reservation at any of the restaurants is nearly impossible, leaving us stuck with disappointing buffet meals. There is also no takeaway or food service, which adds to the frustration. Service is generally poor, with most staff appearing indifferent. Everything requires waiting in long lines, and even something as simple as towel service is an annoyance due to the card system. The resort layout is confusing for its size. There are no golf carts, only an inefficient double-decker bus that doesn’t actually take you where you need to go. The pools are freezing, and the kids club frequently cancels activities, making it unreliable. The only positives so far are the gym, which is well-equipped, and the room key wristbands, which are convenient. We still have a few days left, but at this point, we would not return and would not recommend this resort. Save your money and go elsewhere.

Front of the House Staff were a Complete BUZZKILL
Hubby and I brought our 4 'kids' (ages 16, 18, 19 & 21) to enjoy our first family vacation in Mexico. We splurged on a private limousine transfer with Cancun Limo. Our vacation started off PERFECTLY with a stylish ride, champagne and popping music....and then we got to Barcelo Maya Beach. The Doorman was smiling - we were smiling - he directed us to the Premium Lounge and then our vacation buzz ended. My husband and I booked the Premium Level Oceanfront Junior Suite and the lady at check-in gave us a Regular Superior Room FARTHEST from the beach as you can get. She gave us Premium Amenities with a basic room which is not what we paid for. We specifically booked that room category for the location near the beach and the private tub on the balcony...none of which we got. So, back to the Premium Lounge to fix her DELIBERATE DECEPTION. She works in the Premium Lounge so she knows what rooms are Premium Level. We are the easygoing polite Canadians but I had to fix this. Our check-in lady took the $20 tip that we gave her before we saw the room and was now nowhere to be found. Instead I had to work with a new staff member to salvage our vacation. I was polite and explained our problem and he got me and my husband a room with 2 double beds. Now we are in the correct room with the wrong bedding. We sleep together and we don't fit in a double bed....so back to the Premium Lounge to get a room that we can enjoy. For us, a vacation without sex or sleeping together is a nightmare...but maybe that is not a priority for you. Now our check-in clerk tells us to come back tomorrow and MAYBE they will find us a room with a king size bed. We were not happy at this point and insisted that we get a room with a king size bed. It took several hours of convincing to finally get a Premium Level Oceanfront Junior Suite with King Size Bed because we didn't give up. Then we could finally unpack and enjoy our vacation. This check-in experience didn't ruin our entire vacation but it certainly caused a huge amount of stress and nobody wants that on a vacation. Unfortunately, this Resort states that you will receive a King Size bed or 2 double beds (On request / subject to availability). If bedding choice is important to you DO NOT BOOK THIS RESORT. For this reason, we will not return to this resort Complex....which is such a shame because management can fix this problem and the resort is otherwise WONDERFUL. PROS include a GORGEOUS resort and beach...good food...good drinks...friendly staff...tropical pools (which is getting harder and harder to find) an amazing Premium Level Oceanfront Junior Suite and many activities to keep all ages entertained. Please be advised that not everyone has the experience that we encountered. There were many smiling happy faces at check-in. Unfortunately we were not one of them. I hope this review helps!
