Great place
Really like the main building, central to all needs. Red bus is a great option. The mall is a great escape along with strikers and gokarts. The pool layout is great. Ala cartes are top notch.

2 strikes = no recommendationh,
After giving the Barcelo Maya Palace a second try I would never recommend it to friends. Last year the check-process was 2 hours of horrendous frustration. I thought it must be an aberration. Sadly, the check-in was worse during my recent trip. Not only did BMP overbook the rooms but they seem to take forever with each client that steps up to the desk. Seriously, no exaggeration because I actually timed it, we were 1 hour and 10 minutes before we got to the counter and another 25 minutes at the counter. We had booked 2 rooms and they wanted to give us 1 room for adults and 2 children (upgraded). The 2 young women before us were told they didn't have rooms for them but eventually the hotel relented because the women weren't having it. The check-in process alone would be enough to make me never come back. But then there is the beach chair problem. We have been to over 30 resorts and not only is the check-in procedure the worst but so is the beach chair situation. I had to get up and be on the beach by 7:00am in order to reserve a chair. I hate having to do that! You shouldn't have to save chairs! Trust me, I was one of the last to get chairs and had to carry them from the random ones available by the pool, over to the beach. They have a laughable policy of not saving chairs but it clearly isn't enforced. They have very nice a la carte restaurants but they don't have enough of them. Getting a reservation involves more line-ups and you can only book one day in advance. By the time you get to the desk you may have to accept dining late into the evening. No thanks, the Barcelo Maya Palace isn't worth the trouble. I don't know what management is doing but it sure isn't their job. Oh yeah, don't lose your room key bracelet or you have to pay $250. Go somewhere else!

Amazing vacation!
Absolutely stunning resort. Staying at Barcelo Palace gives you access to other four neighbouring resorts. The beach is wonderful, the included service is top notch. One star less than five stars is as the room service isn't included even when staying at the palace and you have to pay extra for it. Same for the pirate waterpark extra $s. The resort has a huge problem of lounge chair hoarding at the beach and pools. A la carte restaurants are hard to book but not impossible.

Was fine
It was a fine resort. We had fun. Would I return? Probably not. Check in was exhaustingly slow. Food was a normal Mexico resort. Fresh omelettes in the morning were great. The ala carts were excellent. (French, seafood, Brazilian) Beach was rocky which is great for snorkeling but terrible for playing in the water. we walked the km to the sister hotel (caribe) for their beach. They had excellent sandy shallow Caribbean water and sand. The place needs an extra 1000 beach/pool chairs. Everything is reserved by 830 am. Never enough. I’m annoyed that there was an only 3 bathrooms for the ladies around the whole pool and for the whole beach. Not sufficient. Often waited in line for drinks from the ONE bar at the pool. Extra staff would help that situation. All in all, it was fine. Staff was great. We had fun, ate, swam, drank. But nothing really impressive.
