    Miss this place

This was the most amazing resort in Puerta Plata, perfect in size, not a large resort. Staff was amazing all friendly. I was going here for about 8 years every Christmas and New Years when it was Be Live. Then last year they changed ownership and to its current name Marien Puerto Plata and it went downhill fast. The food went from an A+ to a D- the staff went from smiling all the time to looking like they didn't want to be there anymore. All the staff I met over the year said it just wasn't the same atmosphere. This is the first year we are going down the beach to Emotions and I'm sure it will be difficult because of all the great memories we had at Be live. My whole group is going to miss it as they all came with me over the years. I hope I hear good things about them in the future to bring me and my group back.

    Great Vacation, we’ll be back!

We had an excellent vacation at the Marien. Our housekeeper, Orphelina was outstanding! Her skills and service were absolutely amazing and her attention to detail was out of this world. She deserves a day off! The food was good; all 3 a-la-carte restaurants were delicious, we couldn’t choose a favourite. The buffet was average, as expected but we never went hungry. There was always something for everyone. We also enjoyed the Snack Bar for lunch. Great burgers! All of the staff were great. We were always greeted with a smile. Our air conditioning unit leaked a bit in our room often causing a small puddle of water on the floor but that was minor. With the extreme outside temperatures and cool indoor temperatures, condensation was to be expected. The beach patrol and security guards were great and kept us feeling safe and kept the vendors from bothering the guests. The resort was very clean. The grounds crew and pool crew did an excellent job keeping things tidy. We had a great trip!

    Great vacation

We had the pleasure of staying at Hotel Marien in Puerto Plata, and I must say, it exceeded all my expectations! The customer service team deserves a standing ovation—every staff member went above and beyond to make our stay memorable. People working there that is what make a hotel special A special thank you to Javier, who helped to organize an unforgettable picnic right on the ocean—what an incredible experience! Captains Joel and Danny and the rest of the staff were always cheerful, friendly, and dedicated to making us feel welcome. The food was good, great variety of meals, and the entertainment team truly stood out. Wilian did a fantastic job selecting the perfect shows to keep us entertained every evening. Rikki and his dancers were amazing, and the magic show left me completely amazed! The hotel itself was very clean, and while it is a bit outdated, any issues were resolved promptly. I also had a wonderful time playing tennis with Junion (apologies if I misspelled his name)—he made the game so much fun! The only drawback was the beach, which could use more attention in terms of cleaning. Since it was the rainy season, there was more debris than usual. That said, everything else about the stay was absolutely fantastic.

I could prove Seapro operating out of the resort cheated me but they did nothing to make it right. Infrastructure is crumbling

The infrastructure is crumbling. Roof leaked on my bed and all over the halls when it rained, public bathroom sinks often didn't work, random large furniture stored next to the stairwells, patio door locks could be shaken loose, clay patio stones were so old and eroded that at times you were walking just on the grout ridges, many spots crumbling or poorly repaired. Chipped paint and concrete on the ground next to buildings. Food was mediocre. On the weekends they let locals come into the resort so it's crazy busy and loud and the more expensive food items like bacon were mysteriously unavailable just on the weekend. Staff were really nice though. I could have lived with all of that but the final straw was when we paid $60USD each to go parasailing throught the Seapro people operating out of the resort. I took lots of photos and the meta data time stamps proved we each only got 4 minutes in the air when we were promised 15. Seapro staff blew me off, front desk said it wasn't their problem, and all guest services did was say they tried calling for three days but nobody answered. First of all, I could prove they cheated me so what difference does it make to call them, and second, why didn't they just take a 5 min walk down there themselves? Bottom line is we got ripped off and nobody was going to do anything to remedy the problem. My suspicion is Seapro does this to everyone and deny it, but I have proof. I expected that the hotel should ultimately be responsible just like if you take a Transat excursion and something goes wrong, then Transat is responsible to make it right. So be warned, the hotel won't take responsibility if an excursion goes wrong.
