Enjoyable Nature-Focused Resort, Maintenance and Staffing Issues
Overall my partner and I enjoyed our week-long stay at Blue Diamond, however there were some issues with our stay that I feel are worth noting. For context, we spent 4 days relaxing at the resort and 2 days on full-day excursions that we booked through Viator. Pros - The resort is situated in lush jungle and mangroves, with beautiful gardens and a cenote on site. You can walk around and view the cenote whenever you like, but you have to book swimming in the cenote with the concierge at least 24 hours in advance. Our swim in the cenote was cancelled due to rainy weather (nothing we're not used to in Vancouver!) but after seeing it, we didn't feel like we were missing out. We saw a lot of wildlife during our stay, including iguanas and other lizards, coatis, agoutis, raccoons, turtles, crocodiles, and many kinds of birds. We were warned that we may see snakes, but we did not come across any during our stay. There is an adorable and friendly cat that hangs around the lobby. - My partner and I found our Patio Junior Suite to be spacious, with a large bathroom, walk-in closet, and indoor and outdoor seating area. - The resort is small in comparison to others we've been to, which felt more intimate and made it easier to get to know the staff and other guests. - We really enjoyed the food, although I will note that we aren't picky and don't have any dietary restrictions. - The staff were very friendly and accommodating - any issues we encountered with service were not their fault but rather due to understaffing. - The beach was lovely and rarely busy. There was some seaweed in the water and on the beach, but not so much that it ruined the experience. We really enjoyed swimming at the beach and hardly went in the pools at all, although they were nice. It would have been nice to have a shower/rinsing area down by the beach. Cons - Almost all of the common area buildings/structures could benefit from some minor maintenance, while a few areas need major maintenance. For example, we often encountered plumbing issues with the washrooms near the pool area and many of the tables we were seated at at the restaurants were wobbly. The ramp from the pool area down to the beach was broken and taped off. In general, there is visible wear and tear on most of the furniture and amenities at the resort. - Regarding our room, there was also visible wear and tear on the furniture and amenities, nothing extreme but it did detract from the experience. Our bathroom had two showers, however the one with the spray handle didn't have sufficient pressure to use and the blinds on the shower windows, which were necessary as you could see into our bathroom from the public path outside our room, were rusting and difficult to use. On the second night of our stay, we received a call from reception that they were experiencing resort-wide issues with the air conditioning system. The staff apologized for the inconvenience, but couldn't give us any information about when they expected the issue to be resolved. We ended up not having any air conditioning in our room for about two days, after which it gradually increased and returned back to normal by the end of our stay. We also experienced issues with our room keycards not working 3 times throughout our stay and had to go to reception to replace them. - A new resort is being built next to this one, resulting in loud construction that can be heard from the pool and restaurant area. Luckily we could not hear anything from our room. - The resort, especially the restaurants and bars, seemed understaffed. While all of the staff were lovely and doing their best, we often had to wait a while (30-45+ mins) to place our order and receive our food. Many times we never received the drinks we ordered and either gave up, or had to order them again. Overall we enjoyed our stay, but I don't think we would return unless the maintenance and staffing issues are adequately addressed. I can imagine that this resort was excellent when it first opened, but it seems that the management is no longer prioritizing guest's overall experiences which is a shame, because the resort itself is beautiful.

An absolute paradise
The resort was a paradise. Immediately upon arrival, you are transported into an oasis of relaxation and tranquility. Greeted with cold towels, sparkling juice and truffles, your vacation begins. The resort is walkable, but there are bikes for transport and golf carts driven by employees as well. As you walk the paths, you will see wildlife, beautiful jungles, and very few other guests. The beach is pristine. The water is clean and the sand is very well kept. Always a place to sit but get there early to grab an umbrella. The restaurants were both to die for. We tried both but opted for the restaurant on the beach with a stunning view and a different menu each night for us to enjoy. We were happy to be served by Raul two nights as he gave an extremely welcoming and attentive experience. We even snapped a photo with him before we left. Although we did not spend much time in the room, it was definitely a staple of our trip. Very clean. Very large. And very private. We will come again!

Beware of Blue Diamond Boutique
The service was the worst I have ever had very slow did not care. The rooms are ran down AC did not work doors broken had no hanger to hang clothes up took three days to finally get hangers and blow dryer AC never was fixed. This place should not be in business. I have been coming to Mexico for over 40 years this was the worst mistake of all my years coming to Mexico.

Not bad for our first trip to Cancun, but wouldn’t stay here again
Food 3/5: Steak was undercooked, breakfast order was wrong, and a dinner mix-up caused a long wait. No effort to remedy issues. Desserts were mediocre, but the crème brûlée at Ambar was great. Hospitality 1.5/5: Friendly staff, but housekeeping was unresponsive despite multiple calls. Outdoor couch seats were never replaced, and the hot tub took multiple requests to fill—with ice-cold water. Spa 1/5: Wrong reservation, service time cut short, and discount not honored. Hot tub was cold, and staff was dismissive of concerns. Room service 5/5: Staff was great, especially Dave, who provided exceptional service. Drinks 4/5: Drinks were good, but often left sitting at the bar before being served, even when it wasn’t busy. Overall 14.5/25: For a luxury resort, basic services were difficult to get, and staff often dismissed requests rather than accommodating them.

Not a Five Star or a Hidden Gem
DO NOT book this report if you have mobility issues with stairs and/or walking more than a kilometer from the lobby/spa to the other end where the pool and the beach are. Yes, there are golf carts to take you, but they can be few and far between, or not at all. As many other reviewers have already mentioned, this resort, while beautifully nestled in nature, is lacking basic room air conditioning, plumbing and hot water. We did not have any room air conditioning for our entire stay. We called 4 times for AC service, but on the last day, we were told as we checked out that there was a "broken pipe", so it could not be fixed. Why did no one tell us this before, or offer to move us to a room that had AC?? Other guests complained about no hot water, so we were reluctant to move to a room that had even more issues. We considered sleeping outside, but there are several animals such as "coatis" like a racoon with a long tail that hunt for food around the patios, and can have rabies. Our bathroom sink leaked so badly, it made the bathroom floor very slippery and dangerous. Towels were not always replaced everyday. The staff is great, some are even excellent, and the food is very good. Everything is a la carte except for breakfast where there is a buffet and a la carte. The beach is beautiful, but it has some seaweed, and there are far too few shade umbrellas for everyone. We did not have one for our entire stay. There were only 9 umbrellas for the whole beach. The pool area has even less umbrellas. Our room was large and had a beautiful patio with loungers and a plunge pool that was a relief from the sun in the late afternoon. However, we had to call several times to get our plunge pool filled, and the only thing keeping it filled was a rag stuffed in the drain. The resort also has "quirks" and inconsistencies, such as only ONE bathrobe, ONE chair at the dining table outside, and several electrical outlets that just don't work, and were never fixed. The bed was very firm, bordering on hard. TV and NetFlix is in Spanish. Housekeeping took our partially-filled bottles of shampoo and body wash, but did not replace them. There was no Kleenex. I know, not a deal-breaker, just so many inconsistencies! Shoutout to Eduardo and Jenny, the best servers who always served us with a smile and kept our drinks filled! Thank you!! While the Blue Diamond is a nice three-star resort, and we enjoyed our stay (except for the very hot room), there are just too many drawbacks and inconsistencies to warrant a return trip. We would never fly Sunwing again, but that's a story for another time!
