From Sewage Smells to ATV “Insurance Bracelets” – What a Ride
Let me start by saying: this vacation was an experience. Not exactly the one I planned or paid for, but one I won’t soon forget—and not in the best way. Let’s begin with Breathless Soul. I had high expectations based on previous amazing stays at other Breathless locations like Punta Cana. Sadly, this one missed the mark on nearly every front. The Room: From the moment I walked in, I was greeted by a lovely blend of sewage and mildew. I requested help and a room change, but instead of addressing the issue, I was offered... incense. Yes, incense. So I lit my own candle and hoped for survival. The bathroom TV didn’t work, and when I mentioned it before I even unpacked, I was told, “Oh, that never works.” Must be the standard, right? But funny enough, my friend’s room—cheaper than mine—had a working one. Oh, and the same mosquito stuck to the bench when I arrived and still there when I left, so housekeeping clearly had their hands full with... not that. The Bluetooth didn’t work either, but hey, who needs amenities when you have vibes? The Staff: Responsiveness was... nonexistent. Promises were made but never kept. The only saving grace? Andrea. She was warm, kind, and the only person who seemed to care that I was a paying guest, not a random squatter. The Food & Beverage: A wild ride. Unlike other Breathless resorts, nothing stayed open around the clock, so getting food felt like chasing a mirage. By the time you got there, they were out of everything—unless you enjoy watching rice disappear in real time. The staff didn’t seem thrilled to be there either. If I had to rate this location against Breathless Punta Cana, it’d be like watching the 1991 Bulls crush the Pistons. Punta Cana wins by a championship sweep. Oh—and did I mention human feces was spotted on the shared beach area? I wish I were joking. For a place marketed as high-end, that’s an automatic time-to-pack moment. Now, let’s talk excursions, because surely those would save the trip, right? Enter: Aventuras Mayas. We were scheduled for a 7:55 AM pickup, but the driver showed up 45 minutes late. No apology. No urgency. Just vibes. We paid $218 to zipline once (yes, once) into what looked like a creek that moonlights as Eagle Creek’s murky cousin and then ride dusty ATVs on a mostly flat gravel lot with zero hills, zero mud, and 100% dust. Lunch? Oh yes—rice, refried beans, and tortilla chips with no salsa, no guac... just vibes. “Lunch included,” they said. Enjoy! 🍽️ And here’s where it gets wild: insurance was not included in that $218. Want to ride an ATV? That’ll be an additional fee for “insurance” on machines with mostly bald tires. You’ll be asked to pay more in case of damage like a flat ($100/tire) or replacing the machine entirely ($11,000). Once you agree, you pay, sign, and get the legendary “insurance bracelet.” Stylish and terrifying. Then comes the waiver... which surprisingly mentions snorkeling, not ATVs. When questioned, the staff became irritated and said, “Just sign, it’s for the ATV.” Very reassuring. Finally, after signing our lives away, we were offered 15 extra minutes of circling the same dusty trail—to make up for the 45-minute late pickup. How generous! But wait—there’s another waiver! This one was basically a promise not to ask for a refund because, you guessed it, the driver was late. Final tip? Don’t. Just don’t. But don’t worry, there’s hope: Aquaworld. Clean, efficient, friendly, on time, and they even give you a bag when you buy something... for free! Imagine that. And they say “thank you” like they mean it. TL;DR: • Breathless Soul = a hard pass (except Andrea—she deserves a raise). • Aventuras Mayas = the Hunger Games of excursions. • Aquaworld = 10/10 would book again. Travel smart, ask questions, and always bring your own air freshener.

Breathless Cancun Soul Resort full review
Married couple, mid 50's, from Canada, just came back from 2 weeks at Breathless Soul Cancun for our Anniversary. Mostly good reviews, but there were a couple small con's we will share. We did not upgrade to Exhale. This is a newer resort, so the ROOMS were very nice and clean. Comfortable bed and pillows. Had a great variety of English TV channels. Cleaning staff were good, never had issues of low supply of anything. Shower is a glass room, so viewable, but you can put down a sliding curtain if you are not a couple. Lots of road noise due to close proximity of main road. Other resorts around area would be the same. FOOD was delicious at all the restaurants and buffets. Lots of selection!! Service was always quick. Too many names to mention, but all the servers and door staff were fantastic. We were impressed with the Mexican restaurant, as the food there wasn't over spicy. A must try! Ordered the Lobster one night at Fish Nets for an extra charge ($56us), it was delicious and very large! Well worth the money, plus got to enjoy a bottle of Moscato wine included with it! Fish Nets is their steakhouse, we went there the most, as the steaks were delicious! DRINKS were always well made and there was a nice variety of spirits to choose from, including real Kahlua. Our favorite bartender was BARRIOS, he was the only one we found that could make a perfect "Paralyzer", among other drinks too. Breathless should promote BARRIOS to Bar Manager for sure! Then he could train all the others in the secret ways of bartending . The main POOL by the ocean was exceptionally clean and nicely heated. Very enjoyable. The entertainment staff was fun and there were lots of activities to join. Our favorite activity gal was ANDY, she was so nice and always came over to visit us. ANDY planned a secret romantic champagne night for our Anniversary, very thoughtful of her to do! Our favorite pool/beach concierge was JOSUE, he always came around to check on us and see if we needed anything. Both ANDY and JOSUE made us feel extra special. We did not go to the included roof top pool as it felt like too much of a party scene for us, playing music we don't enjoy. More Rap style music, and being spring break, it was quite busy up there. *Which we didn't think the resort allowed spring breakers, but found out they do*. The main pool had a better music mix and was still full of fun activities from time to time. The BEACH was soft sand and the seaweed was very minimal. It was cleaned up daily. The water is shallow there, but there are a couple places that were deeper you could cool off in. No good snorkeling there. The beach was how others reviewed, being small, lots of tour boats out front and people walking past you to get on the boats. It is a public beach, so lots of families set up on the beach in front of you. We booked an 'Adults Only' resort, but shared the beach/water with lots of kids, so that could be considered a con. Not the end of the world, but would have preferred more of a 'private beach' resort setting. Beach service was great, they always came around. SUSANA was our favorite beach server, she was very attentive and friendly. ENTERTAINMENT - We really enjoyed the live singers in the lobby bar nightly! Great music and had fun dancing. SYLVIA was our favorite lounge server. There was outside nightly entertainment that we enjoyed sometimes too, however after a short show, it became a dance party with music we do not enjoy. Again Rap style, with lots of swear words in the lyrics. Fun for others there, but just not our thing. CONS = 'Check-in' is always your first impression, they wanted to "upgrade" us to a higher floor for more money, "so we weren't looking at a wall outside our balcony". We said no a few times, then they ended up giving us that same higher floor room anyway (it also had the same wall, so it really didn't matter). The term "you will really help me out" was used if we did. So obviously it's a Management incentive to their workers. Went up to our room and the door already had our "Happy Anniversary" sign it, so we felt that was going to be our room the whole time. Other people we met had the same experience of asking for more money for a higher floor (not an upgraded room, just the floor). This is not a cheap resort to go to, so we had a bad first impression of them asking for more money. Seemed like a bit of a scam to us. The only other Con during our stay was the front desk concierges. Trying to make this short, - we asked 2 different concierges repeatedly to confirm how we could spend a credit we received for something we booked, and when we got the bill at the end of the stay, it was not honored. We went to the management and explained, so they asked the concierges, but their stories had changed from what they repeatedly told us earlier. A "misunderstanding on our part" we were told. So we ended up having to pay more money for what we were not expecting. That was not a good ending to our trip. It was upsetting, it was the principle of it. In future, we will ask to get it "in writing" if we are promised something different. On the Managers behalf, he did try to offer us something else like a spa swim (not our credit though!), but we were leaving, so we didn't have the time. It didn’t make sense to us. Yes, we would recommend this resort as it was very nice, but for us, we would not go back. We have stayed at a couple 'Secrets' resorts before with less public beaches and a more couple style vibe. We would look at those instead.

Bachelorette trip at Breathless
I LOVED staying at the Breathless Resort. The employees were so attentive and made sure you were enjoying yourself at any location in the resort. I went with other girls for a bachelorette trip and they were able to put us all on the same floor which was helpful for us and we were very appreciative. The pools were so nice and big, especially the rooftop pool. Only thing I would say is to keep the pools open longer. The buffet had so many options that I felt overwhelmed the first time I walked in there but in a good way! I would definitely come here again, preferably soon!

Best all inclusive resort!!
My husband and I had so much fun and were amazed by the 5 ⭐️ experience at this resort. First the room we had facing the ocean was just perfect… AMAZING view and the bedding was so fluffy and comfortable. It shows that this resort is not very old. There was a little smell at the beginning but it goes away after a few days. The food was excellent and we were thrilled to see so many gluten free options for my Celiac husband. The music at night at the Grill bar by the pool was sooo good we danced for hours and had so much fun with other vacationers that became our friends. We will remember those nights for a very long time. Bring your dancing shoes! Even though the music outside stops at 11hpm if you want to keep going there is a night club you can go to. But for us it was time out 😉 The staff is so incredibly attentive to all your needs and so friendly. Can’t say enough of Diego from Silk City, Elena, Andrea from the pool, Karla’s beautiful smile at the Nook and Monica who spoke French to us at the Buffet. Now the only down side of this resort would be the beach. Don’t get me wrong the beach in front of the resort is beautiful but since there is a public access right beside it which might be a downer for some people. But it didn’t bother us and the local people are so quiet. So if this is a concern for you look somewhere else but I was too hesitating before booking this resort because of this issue and boy am I glad I did. Best vacation ever in an all inclusive resort! 👌
