Catalonia Playa Maroma
Great resort, only 30 minutes from the Cancun Airport. The resort is built in a jungle setting and has many monkeys and coatis. The facility is well laid out and not too difficult to navigate. It is a 5- to 10-minute walk from the lobby to the beach. Most areas are wheelchair accessible. The resort is well-maintained, and many rooms have been updated. The maid service is excellent. Very few, if any, rooms have an ocean view. Most rooms have a garden view and are quite private. The pool is nice and includes many lounge chairs. The pool area is quite lively during the daytime. The beach is amazing—plenty of white sand! The beach is a few kilometers long and has only three resorts (a fourth resort appears to have been abandoned during construction and is not operating). The beach area has ample lounge chairs and plenty of shade under the palm trees. The beach is groomed everyday. The restaurants and buffet are all good. The service at the buffet breakfast was excellent. The B-Loved restaurant offers breakfast, lunch, and dinner (reservation recommended). The Mexican restaurant offers excellent food and drinks with top-notch service. The manager and chef stopped by to say hello and check if everything was well—a nice touch. The Japanese restaurant was also excellent. The other restaurants include Italian (very good), Steak (average), and Spanish (average). The restaurants are a bit noisy; however, that seems to be the trend for most restaurants these days (acoustic treatment required). Be sure to make your reservations for the restaurants as soon as you can. Some very minor irritants: • The air conditioner in our room was loud, and it took 5 days to get the room temperature down to 22 degrees Celsius. • We did not always receive hand towels in our room. • You require a special type of upgrade to have premium alcohol, and the alcohol selection is not that great. I understand this is only a 4-star resort; however, the selection was inferior to other 4-star resorts we have visited. • The French fries were always soggy, no matter which restaurant we tried. Overall, we enjoyed our stay and would return to the Catalonia Playa Maroma. See the video on the YouTube Channel: nwaynesworld

Extremely amazing service!
Really great service! Ruben from the main lobby is extra special. He goes above and beyond to take care of everything you need. I am completely honored to have met him first and foremost when arriving at the resort. We have talked to him daily and he always makes us feel special. This man is 100% awesome!! Thank you Ruben! You are amazing!

We love Catalonia Playa Maroma!
We had a great time. We have been here a few times before and there have been many improvements! The food is very good now, even at the buffet. Dinner at Bloved was disappointing, whereas lunch was fine. We always had breakfast at the buffet so we could get our day going quickly. The coffee maker in the room is very nice! Drinks at the beach bar are good. If you like strong drinks just ask. THE BEACH IS TOTALLY AMAZING - USUALLY RATED ONE OF THE BEST BEACHES IN MEXICO. Look it up. We go here to relax and do not do anything other than hang out under the palms on the beach. It is paradise for us. The staff here is amazing. We highly recommend booking Privilege Level. This prioritizes restaurant reservations in the booking system, and gets you in to Bloved. The hamburger for lunch at Bloved is not to be missed! There are many tourists from Europe here and it makes it cool and continental. This place is not stuffy or snooty, and I was able to wear nice shorts to dinner at the a la carte restaurants. There are plenty of activities for everyone and a kids club. We did not see too many children this trip. ARRIVAL AT CUN WAS BAD. HUNDREDS OF PEOPLE ALL WAITING TO GET THROUGH IMMIGRATION. WAITED ABOUT 2 HOURS IN LINE FOR THE AUTOMATED IMMIGRATION GATES. It is a 30 min ride from the airport in good traffic. My advice is to arrive as early in the day as possible. On a scale of 1-10 I give Catalonia Playa Maroma a 9!

Unwelcoming. More French than Spanish. Bland food.
Caters to French. All pool activities are French. All bar / night club activities were in French. It was difficult to get English. Barely heard Spanish….made the resort feel like we were in France instead of Mexico. The smoking is also hard to get away from even inside the hotel. The designated smoking areas are too close to where food or services are offered. The wait at the restaurants was insane. At least an hr. The food was bland. The worst was the French stuff The hotel should advertise that it caters to French. I would have chosen to go somewhere more authentic. Sitting at the pool was horrible Just here yelling in French the entire time 🤣

won't be back
I really wanted to have this be a resort that I would come back to. I have been going to all-inclusive resorts in Mexico for over 30 years. We arrived at Catalonia Playa Maroma on a Thursday evening. We had booked 3 privileged rooms and had requested 2 beds in each room. They took us to our rooms, and they all had one bed. They said we could check again in the morning to see if any double privileged rooms would be open. When we insisted on two beds, they magically found them. We realized the next day that we weren't in a privileged building. (they are labeled) They told us there were privileged rooms in all the buildings. The restaurant reservation system is ridiculous. You have to book through their app. Reservations open on Sunday for the week, so if you get there like we did on a Thursday, forget it. We were told to just go to one of the restaurants later in the evening to see if they could get us in. We went to the Italian restaurant, and they said they could get us in if we bought a $40 bottle of wine!!! How's that for extortion! The nighttime entertainment wasn't much. The pool entertainment didn't announce anything in English. On the bright side, the beach is wonderful, the food wasn't bad for all inclusive. The employees were very pleasant for the most part.
