Fun and relaxing vacation! Great environmental practices.
Don’t believe the negative reviews.( maybe they are owners of timeshares at a competing resort?) because the reality of this place is it is delightful. Our check in was fast and efficient, the people were all lovely. Thank you Anna :) My wife and I took our 3 young adult daughters and we ate well, drank well and danced on the beach every night. The rooms did need some updating, but you are on a very cheap vacation in a 3rd world country. $2,000 for 7 days to eat and drink all I want is an amazing deal. I go to NYC and pay $500 a night for a little room that smells like sewage and $200 a day on subpar food….. The complaints about the people that work here are also false imo. Shout out to Alfredo who is a joy and delight. I see no one tipping here. People that work here may struggle to put food on their families table and ppl complain about throwing a couple dollars down - it is just wild to me. We brought $700 for tipping money for the week in addition to what we paid for our stay. We tip housekeepers, we tip staff, we tip drivers. When you share your wealth it comes back threefold. We were treated like queens for tipping each day what we would spend on a meal for two at a Fridays or Chilies. On top of all of this I have not seen a single review mention This resorts good works for the environment. Sustainability - they clean their own water and use glass bottles instead of plastic As a result the water is not always hot. The rooms use the reverse osmosis and they are still working things out - they launched this in 2023. People complain but I commend them for the work they are doing to help their country . IMPORTANT***The hack to hot showers - turn all of the faucets in the room on hot. It may take 5 minutes but it will warm up, then take your shower. I appreciate people thinking this is bs based on what they have paid but again they are working through a very new and important water conservation project. They also have multiple areas on the beach where you can throw trash found on the beach - very focused on conservation Advice to management- invest in one of those machines that helps to clear seaweed - seeing your workers have to do that by hand was tough, knowing there is a more efficient way. Unless you are simply just trying to create more jobs - which would be understandable. Final thought for the haters - Going through life complaining about everything is a miserable way to exist. I promise you, if you look for the good in every situation in your life, you will find it.

Great Resort
My wife and I were here the last week of November. We had a fantastic time. We have travelled to many all inclusive a throughout Mexico and the Caribbean so this review is based on a lot of experience at other resorts. We typically stay at 4.5 stars and above. We are low key so the party scene isn’t for us. Resort Layout This resort has a great layout. Everything is close and the beach is close to most of the rooms. The adult only section is adjacent to the family resort which is larger (and busier). The nice thing is that you have all the amenities of a larger resort (shops, casino, restaurants, etc) without the hustle and bustle if you don’t want it. Also this is a very walkable resort. Lots of lush greenery, turtle pond and little alcoves for just sitting and taking in the surroundings. The one downside is if it rains…the walkways do not drain particularly well so sometimes you are ankle deep in water if it rains…and when it rains, it rains! The Room We had a privileged swim up room and it was great. The room itself was spacious and comfortable. The beds were comfortable and our room was centrally located. I was a little concerned because we faced the employee service road which I thought would be noisy. I was mistaken. There was a little activity but nothing over the top. The room was quiet and clean. The patio had two comfy chairs and there were two loungers in the swim up area. This was great for coming back to the room and sitting in your private plunge pool and reading while cooling off. Our mini fridge was stocked daily. There was some construction close by but it was not excessively loud. They seem to take good care of the report and rooms with renovations occurring. The Food Admittedly at did not eat at the aka carted. We really don’t like being scheduled so we are at the buffet next door for dinner each night. We thought the food was great and there were lots of options. The servers were great. There were lots of veggie options and we thought everything was great. You need to remember that it is a buffet and even at home buffets are not gourmet. They are cooking for mass amounts of people so if you are expecting five star fine dining, avoid buffets generally. We had the beach food truck a few times for lunch which was great. There was also a smoothie booth next to the food truck which was really great too. The restaurant by the quiet pool was a nice option for lunch as well. Again, everything was great. For breakfast we ate at the buffet in the adults only section which was great. The omelettes were great. Margarita (the omelette chef) was great. There are lots of great options for breakfast and oodles of fruit. If you cannot find anything to eat, I suspect you are the problem. The Beach Likely the most disappointing part. Beautiful to look at but not the best for swimming. It was really shallow and the sand was really soft/mud like, so you would sink up to your ankles which felt a little odd. There is a barrier (likely to avoid erosion) off the shore so I suspect that may be the cause of the sand that is like that. The water is nice and there were lots of people doing activities such as kayaking, paddle boarding etc. The beach was gorgeous to look at. There were lots of chairs. The privileged section was not great for shade but there were lots of shady areas elsewhere on the beach. There beach was accessible as well which was nice of you have mobility issues. The beach was very walkable which is nice and there staff take care of any seaweed in the morning that has washed up. Another beach downside were the vendors. They are relentless. They come back repeatedly and are too persistent. I completely understand some some sales but they are really aggressive. It would be intimidating if you were women travelling alone because they are so persistent. The Pools We spent most of our time at the quiet pool. The quiet pool is very large. There is drunk service there but no swim up bar (which I was fine with because I believe a lot of times people at the swim ups who are drinking all day and not getting out of the pool are likely using it as a bathroom). The pool was located directly on the beach and you had the best of both worlds…next to the sand and a lovely pool. The bathrooms were close by as well. The louder pool looked like a lot of fun if that is what you are into. The Staff I cannot say enough about the staff. They were all fantastic. Special shout out to Naomi, Margarita and Felix. The staff work very hard and I didn’t see many people tipping which was disappointing. All in all it was a great trip and a very nice hotel. In viewing some of the other reviews, I am a little perplexed because our experience was Very positive.

Great visits for over 15 years
We have been visiting Catalonia Royal Bávaro for over 15 years, traveling three times a year, and every experience has been simply extraordinary. This place is not just a resort; it’s a home away from home. The staff is, without a doubt, the heart of this paradise. From the moment you arrive at the front desk, you are greeted with a warmth that makes you feel special. Everyone, without exception, is kind, attentive, and professional—from the reception team to those who keep the gardens immaculate and beautiful. While we would love to mention names, the truth is that every member of the staff provides exceptional service. You arrive as a guest and leave as part of a big family. If you’re looking for a place to relax, enjoy the beauty of the Caribbean, and be treated with the highest level of excellence, Catalonia Royal Bávaro is the perfect destination. We look forward to every visit!

Not a 4 star resort
This is far from a 4 star resort, I’ve never been more disappointed. The A/C didnt work, never went below 24.5 C, reported but no one ever came to check. There were literally only two outlets in the whole room- the bathroom and the one the TV and fridge were plugged into, we had the TV unplugged all week just so we could charge our electronics. Rooms are very outdated. The toilet room didn’t have a door and looked straight across to the shower. I love my husband but I don’t need to see him sitting on the toilet as I shower or brush my teeth. Service was great if you spoke Spanish but forget it if you’re English, often times they couldn’t understand basic requests. The food was awful, buffets were the worst and the restaurants only slightly better. Many seemed quite miserable to be there tbh Paid for premium room but there are literally no privileges that we experienced - the select part of the beach for that privilege was crowded and had no shaded areas. Would never recommend this place to anyone and in fact saved a coworker from going as he had just booked the night before I was telling him- he cancelled.
