Comfy and quiet with views for days

The view from our 3rd floor balcony was amazing. The breeze was cooling and the lights at night were captivating. The 2bed/2bath condo has everything you need and the balconies are so spacious! The place is very well kept. The landscaping is lovely.

    Colony Cove

Great location!! Beds are comfy. Pool and beach are very nice. Short drive to Christiansted. Restaurant within walking distance, the St Croix club, was great. Food was good and you have a view of the oven. Soft breezes kept us cool enough the we never needed the air conditioning.

The good, the bad, and the ugly of St. Croix

The good: The condo itself was very nice with ocean and pool views. The scenery is spectacular, and the water is gorgeous blues. We went on a scuba dive trip with St. Croix Ultimate Bluewater Adventures (SCUBA) and they were fantastic. Our dive was beautiful, and we saw lots of turtles and reef sharks. The bad: This is a 3rd world country and you have to be mentally prepared for that. Almost all the waterfront is nice but, as soon as you go across the street things change dramatically. Great vacation if you just want to sit by the pool or beach and drink. Plenty of Rum and Vodka on the island! There is very, very little to see inside the reef. We had been warned about this before we went but the level of devastation is far greater than we expected. We snorkeled about 9 of the beautiful beaches but, as soon as we got in the water we realized there are no fish except for little tropicals, the locals have fished them all out. We witnessed a local catch a 4 inch schoolmaster snapper and keep it for dinner. We saw about 9 lobster in our trip 1 of which was big enough to keep. Once again the locals keep everything no matter the size. There are 10's of 1000's of undersize Conch shells all over the beaches so no Conch on the menus only conch fritters. We watched a small boat with 3 local young adults come in and take the critter out of 6-7 Conch shells that were all way smaller than the 9" min. required to keep them. They threw the shells in the water and drove away and this was out close to The Pt. Udall area which is a no take zone. Our taxi driver told us none of the fish served in the restaurants is from St. Croix it is all frozen fish from Puerta Rico. I stopped at a local fish market to buy some fresh fish for dinner. He showed me a cooler full of parrot fish which in my opinion is not very good but also, those fish clean the reef and because all the snapper, grouper, rock hinds, etc. are gone they have resorted to eating the very fish that keep the reefs healthy. I told him I just wanted snapper and he had me stay for 10 min. and the boat came in. The guy had been out all day and had 20-30 more parrot fish and 5 snapper all of which were speared. 2 of the snapper were big Vermillion snapper which I bought for $8/pound. The other 3 snappers were 7-8 inches with a big spear hole in them. He also had 4 Rock Hind that were 6-7 inches each that another local bought. We did see a few snapper when we scuba dove but, 1/1000th of what we see in the Bahamas or Keys. The Ugly: The island has been hard hit over the past few years and so poverty and crime has soared. About 7 years ago 2 hurricanes (1 was Maria) hit the island then 5 years ago a big oil refinery on the island closed and about 1700 locals lost their jobs then Covid hit. 85% of the economy is tourism and for 2 years there has been very little. We rented a car and soon found out we should have rented a Jeep. There are pot holes that will swallow a small car all over and lots of the lesser roads are dirt and rock. Our rental cars back window was smashed in while we were down on the beach snorkeling. This is very common on St. Croix because they give you a sheet of paper when you get your rental car that says take all belongings with you and leave the car unlocked. Then the police told us that you also have to put your windows down and they still might break either your front or back window. So.... Budget tells us to bring our car back and they will exchange it and after we turn the car in and fill out all the paperwork we are told they do not have another car for us hence the mention of a taxi for our last days on the island. While we were there ( 8 days) there were 4 people shot. 2 about a mile from our Condo and 2 in Fredrieksted. This is a dangerous palce to go unless you stay at your resort and scuba with a reputable dive shop.

    Very good complex

Stayed in 303A which was just perfect. Beautiful clean condoThe owners had thought of everything, fully equipped kitchen. Shampoo and conditioner. Beach towels and chairs, coolers, snorkel gear... the list goes on. Good central location for exploring, nice pool and beach with good snorkeling on artificial reef. bar/ restaraunts 2 minutes either side along the beach. Local stores about 5 minutes walk away. I would recommend renting a car to see the island. We had 2 minor issues. The refrigerator broke and the property manager was straight round with a large cooler to store our food, plus a new fridge was installed within 8 hours. The owners even offered to reimburse us for any food that we had lost. Internet very poor, we could get onto the pool internet for short periods during the day but the condo internet was hit and miss. The manager did all that he could to sort it out, and it was perfect for a couple of days then went off again. However, this was a very small inconvenience considering we were staying on a paradise island

The Restaurant Has the Best Service in the Whole Island!

I stayed in St. Croix for one week and ate all my meals out. My very last meal was at the restaurant at Colony Cove Beach Resort. My meal was wonderful, I had the special - Conch in butter with garlic mashed potatoes and vegetables. It was tasty and quite the experience! Every person in the restaurant - including the kitchen staff and bartender - came over and checked on me at least once during my leisurely meal and made sure I had everything I needed. Everyone was so genuine and and friendly, truly the best service I had experienced on the island, hands down. Thank you! When I come back to St. Croix I am coming back to this restaurant, the food and the service was first class. I also spent some time on the beach before my meal and it was very relaxing.
