Not enough staff, not enough food!

We had an abysmal experience at the Dreams by Hyatt Los Cabos Resort, with a Preferred Club stay from March 24-28, 2025. From the beginning of the trip, we had very poor communication regarding the prepaid transportation. We were not given any information about where to go or who to ask for at SJD airport, and when we finally found the appropriate representative, our names were not on the list for transport to the hotel. We had to wait almost 45 minutes for our prepaid private transportation to the hotel. Upon our arrival, it was obvious that there were not enough staff or resources to provide the promised guest experience, given the occupancy of the resort. On our first day, we attended a Mexican buffet fiesta. However, there was not enough food nor grilled meat, and not enough staffed seating for everyone wanting to attend. At one point, there was not even enough plates for everyone to get food, forcing a family with very young children to have to sit and wait for the kitchen staff to wash enough dishes for them to eat. Throughout our stay, there was a profound lack of pool chairs, and nowhere to sit at the main pool. The staff was wonderfully accommodating and trying to squeeze us into existing chairs or spaces, but it was evident that there was not enough space to accommodate all of the guests. Parents were forced to stake out chairs at 6:30 in the morning, so that their young families would have a place to sit. Also, there were never any towels available for use. As opposed to our experience at other resorts, the towels appeared to be in short supply, and were immediately snatched up when they were intermittently available. Despite the advertisement of “pool bar service”, for the first two days of our trip, there was only one waiter for hundreds of guests. Only after we complained to the manager were additional staff and amenities offered. But even with another waiter, service was excruciatingly slow and the waiters were visibly overtasked. Glasses and plates built up during the day, and there was little attention paid to clearing used service items. Similarly, the bartenders were all overworked, with too many drink orders and no barbacks/assistants to help with dishwashing or prep. Our poor experience crescendoed when we went to the Oceana seafood restaurant. Despite a three-plus hour wait, there were no tables available, and no space at other restaurants on the resort either. Interestingly, there were a number of open tables, but it was clear there was no waitstaff to service those unused tables. Multiple other families were affected, many with very small children who hadn’t eaten due to the multi-hour waits. The epitome of the staffing issue was when a guest accidentally dropped a glass on the floor, and the broken shards lay unattended for a significant amount of time - despite notifying restaurant staff. Ultimately, we were forced to get a few meager sandwiches from the small coffee bar/cafe, prompting the image shown. We paid thousands of dollars for this family vacation, and absolutely did not get our money’s worth. We were even forced to go into town for meals at our own expense, instead of waiting for hours for meals at the resort. We specifically picked a Hyatt resort because of our excellent experience at the Hyatt Ziva in the past. However, it was made abundantly clear that said levels of hospitality did not extend to the Dreams by Hyatt Los Cabos. You can do better elsewhere.

    Not food allergy friendly

Do not visit here if you have food restrictions. They don't know the ingredients in their food. Not accommodating. Those in our group without food allergies also said the food was terrible. Go on a cruise instead. Same price, better dinning experience!

    Bad service and food quality

Food is below average in quality and service is really bad. We often sat at the bar for 15 mins before even being acknowledged. There were huge line ups for the restaurants so dinners were way too late little kids. Room service took ages and often didn't have what we wanted or what came didn't match the description. Only buffet available during the day was inside an required us to leave the pool to reasonably healthy food for the kids. It was an terrible experience. I read reviews before going but I feel like the must be fabricated or something.

Great stay for the whole family

We loved every minute of our stay at Dreams Los Cabos - the staff are friendly and attentive, the food options were aplenty (we particularly enjoyed the French restaurant Bordeaux), and the Explorer's Club (kids club) was awesome! We had a few service misses at the restaurants, but overall the service great. The entertainment staff were awesome every day and evening, putting on a variety of shows and activities. Most/all activities were either on the beach or pool side during the day, I would have liked to see more activities in the shade, but definitely not a deal breaker.

    Not recommended

The staff are great but the food was terrible. The restaurants all shut down for a day and there were already limited options. We were always told there were no guarantees of being seated at the one breakfast restaurant. There were too many times during the day when there were no food options except for a hotdog. Tips were expected for any service around the pool and the more you tipped the better service you got. No tips meant no service around the pool and you probably wouldn’t keep your umbrella either. I would not recommend this resort, which is too bad because most of the staff were great. But they were badly understaffed, especially the restaurants. This resort seemed very badly managed. Kid’s Club was a bright spot.
