Wow- we absolutely loved our time in Columbia and with Roberto and Berta! This is my second trip to Cartagena and Roberto is the first person I call to find one of his homes. This home in particular is in the heart of the walled city- close to the grocery, delicious restaurants and within walking distance to really anything you might need. Roberto is incredibly knowledgeable and accommodating to all of our requests- whether it is scuba diving, booking the hottest restaurants or finding us a contact to meet the villagers of Wayuu. He does it all. I haven’t even touched on the relaxing and beautiful courtyard or most importantly the staff working at Candil. The beds are so comfortable and we felt very safe. We will definitely be back.

Incredible experience
Our group had nothing but great things to say about our stay. The house and accommodations are very nice. The staff cooked breakfast each day and our host helped us with many things especially organizing transportation and recommendations.

Proprietors Are Fabulous
Our party of four arrived just before noon on January 18 from the airport. We had prepaid for 5 days. We learned that the hotel was temporarily closed because of a septic system problem. The owner or manager Roberto Hoyos met use, explained the situation, and called two taxis to take us to alternative accommodations near the cathedral. The alternative hotel was better than this one, and we didn’t pay a penny more. On this basis, I strongly recommend staying here. What we say of the property was very nice.

Unique beauty in the center
This beautiful Boutique Hotel right in the center of the old town of Cartagena is a marvelous island of beauty and tranquillity in the otherwise bustling quartier. The main gate closes behind you and you don’t hear anything anymore from the outside crowds and all noise on San Diego Plaza. The old building has been restored with exquisite taste and a very good sense for details. Simple but high quality breakfast, good beds in clean rooms. The only drawback may be that you need at all times ring the bell and the concierge needs to come to open the main door. Which may take a while :-)

Raeshell's 50th birthday
Candil de los Santos is a beautiful oasis in the heart of the historic walled city of Cartagena. This house breathes history and tranquility from the minute you walk through the heavy wooden, ornamented door. The facade hides the lovely central courtyard, open to the sky, with fragrant flowering trees and palms. The pool invites you to drop your bags and get in. The rooms are high ceilinged and quiet. The beds are deliciously comfortable. Bathrooms and closet space perfect for a long stay. Breakfast is delicious Colombian coffee, tropical fruits, toast and jam. This is the perfect place to stay for 2 days,,,or 2 months! Everything you want to see or do in Cartagena is within a short walk, including the fantastic new Serrezuela shopping center just two blocks away.
