Beautiful Beach Vacation over Christmas
Spend a week over Christmas at El Dorado playa Maroma. The beach and water were lovely. One of the nicest beaches we’ve visited. Good for swimming and beach walks. Powder white sand and clear blue water! Pool, bars and restaurants all well maintained. Our room was a little dated but big and large living area, bathroom - two showers, jet tub, comfortable bed and big balcony. We stayed in a honeymoon suite. Food, drink and service - all excellent. Staff very outgoing. Special Christmas Eve dinner menu, seeing Santa and The Grinch come down the beach on camels and foam party on Christmas Day was a nice fun touch for the festive season. The activity crew was fun - we did participate in beach volleyball, aqua fit, yoga, dance lessons and handicrafts… which is something we don’t normally do on vacation but enjoyed here. Nice, low key, small adults only resort with great service (our style of resort) if you’re looking to recharge and relax. Extra thanks to entertainment staff -Marco, Osvaldo, Gustavo and Alex! Thanks for a fantastic Christmas beach vacation!

Good trip but won't be back
We went to Maroma for my 40th birthday the week before Christmas. This was our first time visiting this property. Overall our experience was good, but there are a few reasons I would not choose to go back to this resort. I'll start with the good. PROS: 1) For the most part, the food was excellent. I enjoyed most meals, and didn't feel like the resort lacked for variety despite having only a couple restaurants. 2) The beach club next door is a nice addition. We went to the buffet a couple times and enjoyed the variety of options. The woodfire pizza was outstanding (as long as you get it fresh)! 3) Including some excursions was awesome! We did the snorkeling/catamaran and had a wonderful time. The crew did a great job making the roughly 2 hour trip fun, and the water was clear. We saw a variety of fish and some people saw stingrays and sea turtles. The drinks flowed freely and it was a party atmosphere after the snorkeling portion was done. 4) Most days our concierge found us and checked in to make sure everything was going well. They also booked us an express tour to Chichen Itza that was good; didn't take the whole day because it skipped the useless shopping trip, so we just got to spend some quality time at the site and still get back to the resort in time for dinner. 5) Carlos in particular was an incredible bartender and made sure we had a good time. He even made sure to find some special tequilas for us to taste. 6) We stayed in a Mi Hotelito room, which have been recently renovated. The AC worked well and the bed was big and comfy. Unlike other resorts who for some reason think you want to enjoy each other's company through a basically see-through bathroom door, there was actually a solid door! 😅 The pool/bar was right outside our balcony so we could come and go easily throughout the day. 7) Never had to fight to get chairs or day beds. The fact that day beds are not an upcharge was also a huge plus, as they normally are. For the most part we got good service while using the day beds, especially from Denise. 8) The resort is small and has a very boutique feel. You get to know people and staff easily, and there's no need for golf cart transport just to get everywhere. 9) Liquor choices were great! Lots of mid and top shelf options included without an extra fee. 10) No hard sell on the vacation club. We said no one time and that was it. Other places are much more aggressive. 11) The Mexican fiesta night was the best! They had dancing and a mariachi band, as well as excellent food. CONS 1) This place is SO disorganized. The staff are trying their best but we were given wrong information several times. I think it's because they recently changed management companies, but it was a bit ridiculous at times. Just one example: When we arrived, we were told we had a 6pm reservation at one of the restaurants already made for us and the couple with traveled with who had arrived before us. That couple had been told it was at 530. When we showed up at the restaurant we were told neither reservation existed, and we were actually turned away from the nearly empty restaurant and told we could not be accommodated at that point. We went to another restaurant and were immediately seated. 2) We were told to use the web app for requests or if we needed anything, as well as for room service. 75% of the time no one answered the app messages, and the room service function never worked for any time other than breakfast. No one answers the phone when you try to call from the room. 3) I had an issue where an animal had pooped on our balcony overnight, which I discovered around 8am and promptly sent a message via the app. THAT message was answered and I was told it would be taken care of within 15 minutes. Came back around noon and it was still there. I tried calling but no one answered. I tried the app and it was ignored. I mentioned it to my concierge around 2 or 3pm and they said they'd get someone there right away. Finally my partner asked the turn down housekeeper if they could take care of it and they were completely confused. It was finally taken care of around 5pm!! 4) There are limited activities and zero night life. The late night bar feels like a church youth group lock in or a hotel conference room. There is one broken ping pong table and two shabby pool tables. The music is almost exclusively disco. 5) Menus at the restaurants changed without notice. The week we were there they decided to get rid of the Peruvian cuisine at Lima Limon and change it to just Asian at dinner. The only reason I found out was through a Facebook group for fans of the resort. Fortunately, I had been looking forward to the asian restaurant, but it ended up being my least favorite meal mostly because of the entrees being lack luster. They also changed the night of the Mexican fiesta without any announcements and I'm glad I found that out on FB because it would have been unfortunate to miss it! The amount of incredibly positive reviews is confusing to me. There are definitely a lot of great things about this resort, but a lot of room for improvement.

Fantastic
I'm only writing this review because I lost a bet with Gustavo playing volleyball. Haha. Great food. Great drink. Great hotel. Great activities team! Everyone is super friendly. I can't wait to go back in May. This is filler to reach 200 character min.

A notch above the rest!
This resort was WONDERFUL. Very clean, easy to navigate. Our room was well air-conditioned, clean, and smelled wonderful (so many resort rooms have a musty smell due to high humidity). Mini bar was sufficient, nice TV with lots of english-speaking channels (normally we don't watch TV at a resort, but we did have one rainy day in which we did). Maid service was prompt and thorough. The food at every restaurant was much better than any food we have ever had at an all-inclusive. So many great options at each restaurant, including fresh seafood (our favorite!). The only negative was the place on the resort app to make dinner reservations was glitchy. The service at the restaurants was very good...Carlos and Arturo at Lima Limon were exceptional! We never ordered room service, so I'm not going to rate that. Bar service was top-notch, especially at the beach bar. Francisco and Rigoberto knew our standard orders, and were very helpful in suggesting new cocktails that we had not previously tried. Also, the alcohol was TOP SHELF. My husband loves Grand Marnier, and he was thrilled to be able to order it as a nightcap every night! The beach itself is incredible....supposedly one of the top twenty most beautiful beaches in the world, according to a staff member. The sand is white and very fine....almost like powdered sugar! And it doesn't burn your feet when it is hot outside. The water is clear and multi shades of aqua and other blues. The ocean floor is the same wonderful sand....very easy on bare feet. Beach staff was great....Kevin and Manuel treated us like royalty! The pools were fine....they were kind of cold, but I don't think I have every been at a Riviera Maya resort in December that has had a warm pool. Pool bars were terrific....Clemente took very good care of us. Activities at the pool and on the beach were nice....the entire activities staff was friendly and very interactive with the guests. My husband and I have done a Riviera Maya all-inclusive vaction every December since 2017. Each year we try a different resort. El Dorado Maroma was the first resort that we both agree would be worth a return visit. It was just flat-out impressive in every regard!

My favorite property in Mexico!
I recently returned from seven nights at El Dorado Maroma. It was my third stay at this property. We had a family trip with my two sisters in law and one of their husbands. Overall our experience was fantastic. The property is beautiful and the wide flat white sand beach is consistently rated in the top ten of the world. The rooms are lovely and comfortable. The food is gourmet and always fabulous. However, in addition to the beach, rooms, and food, the real difference maker is the staff. The attention to detail, the willingness to get to know the guests, the personalities, are simply exemplary. I have stayed at almost all of the properties in the El Dorado portfolio and El Dorado Maroma is my favorite and my strong preference. Food quality is always important to me. The food is consistently excellent. In particular the soups are superb in every restaurant every time. Another very enjoyable thing is the wide selection of appetizers in all restaurants. These are smaller portions that truly serve their purpose instead of being a platter sized portion which detracts from the main dishes. Special events are also great. The Mexican Fiesta on Thursday on the beach had more choices than I could mange to try along with specialty drinks and great entertainment. The staff is exemplary. I have gotten to know many of them a bit over my two previous stays and was amazed when I found they remembered me, things about me, and some of my preferences. This made for a more personalized experience for me, and within a few nights, for my first time family visitors. I want to mention some of them. As I made a list I was shocked by how many I recalled by name. First our two butlers Miguel & Marbel. Both handled small issues we encountered such as a non working room refrigerator with grace and speed. They made our trip smooth and were very important to our family having a restful and trouble free stay. Our waiters were fabulous but in particular Jesus, Ezekiel, Roger, Juan, Bladomir, Alberto, Arturo, & Andres. They greeted me every meal with a smile, fist bump, and a bit of conversation. They knew their menus and were happy to make suggestions when asked. They even expedited some menu changes when the sisters wanted something added or left out. When we couldn't decide on appetizers or desert several times they brought us an on the spot sampler platter. Our two bartenders Betsaba & Josue were always friendly and made us a wide variety of perfect drinks. Carlos in member services helped us check in quickly and helped find out some information about the property I was looking for for a future visit. He was fabulous. Finally the housekeeping was very good and our person Delina made our room sparkle. I encourage you to visit. The popularity of the property is growing as the beach, accommodations, food, and staff make this the destination in Mexico for many people. This also means you need to book a bit further in advance as the small size coupled with its popularity means it can be hard to get a room if you wait too close to your planned time to travel.
