We will be back for sure

The resort was beautiful! More palm trees than I’ve ever seen at any resort. Very large and spread out so you had so many places to walk and explore. If you don’t want to walk, there are golf carts every few minutes to take you wherever you want to go. Multiple restaurant and bar choices. The food was excellent at dinner. Fuentes dinner show is a must-do! Mariano at Cocotal was our absolute favorite waiter! He remembered us from day 1 and we specifically asked for him every morning for breakfast. We had a few issues with our room and had a hard time getting response by calling “0” as instructed. Once we talked to our concierge, everything was taken care of immediately. Minor negatives in an overall incredible experience. We will be back!

    Eh

Pros: beautiful grounds, friendly staff, plenty of pools including a natural salt water one, no wristbands, no towel cards, an app to make reservations & converse with the concierge, nice breakfast buffet Cons: rooms feel dated/rundown and are quite dark, ongoing noisy remodeling, including the building we were plsced in (#12), slippery walkways/stairs, no lunch or dinner buffet, the pizza place had an expansive lunch menu but only pizza available for dinner (?). Some restaurants at Generations couldn't be booked until 8:30pm further limiting dinner options, tiny portions, lots of walking shuttles were not frequent, they do water aerobics in the main pool right in front of the swim up bar every day at noon (should be moved to a different pool or even down to the other less busy end of main pool) constant calls & notes to come to timeshare presentations- they even tried requiring a pre-checkout the night before departure & accosted you at final checkout, no lazy river as was listed on some sites/reviews and definitely no swimmable beach. Calls to bellman & front desk went unanswered requiring people to drag suitcases up the stairs to the lobby (no elevator) Bottom line: not the worst but certainly not worthy of a return. Overpriced, based on the numerous other resorts visited

    Still love going here!

Although we stay next door at Generations, we go to El Dorado Royale every day for our morning walk, along with some breakfasts and dinners. We also love dancing at Guacamayas when there is good music. We still miss having Cygnus band play 5 nights a week as they did in past years, but at least they are now there 2 nights a week. We also enjoyed having the Tribute band back, but would like to have them more than once a week. Black Cow has improved but they don’t always play music for dancing; their best set was when they played jazz at Gaviotas one night. We loved eating at D’Italia Casitas with Chef Jose cooking delicious food, Miguel and Jairo serving us, and Nicolas seating us. We also love having Fabiola and Ricardo, sommeliers extraordinaire, serving us wine. Fuentes never disappoints us with Chef Eduardo and Sommelier Fabiola and Noriberto serving us. At Kampai we ate fabulous Thai food prepared by Chef Montree. Our favorite waiter at Kampai was Javier who served us our lunch and breakfast then at Santa Fe. Although we loved the food at D’Italia Villas and had wonderful service by Aracely the manager and Jose our server, the restaurant was freezing cold. The temperature of the restaurant kept us from returning. At Cocotal we loved seeing Luz again as the hostess along with Angel who used to be at Chefs Market at Generations.

El Dorado Royale- not worth the price

the staff were friendly, smiling and greeting every moment we would pass them- great staff members. The resort isn't the greatest, the food was ok and the restaurants in the evening required reservations( through an app that isn't reliable), room service would take at least an hour which again wasn't the greatest of options. Communication is not the greatest, we had the floors food/dishes set outside of our room. I called 4 times to have the dishes removed as the local wildlife were eating the leftovers and hanging around outside our door ( please see attached pictures). After 4 phone calls the dishes were not picked up, we were awoken to sounds of dishes breaking at 0300 as the animals I guess broke the dishes ( see pictures). Finally the next morning, that's right the next day, on our way to breakfast I asked for the manager who wasn't on site yet- again complained about what had happened and desk agent said he would take care of it. So finally around 0900 it was cleaned up, only took almost 24 hours. All in all , for the price you pay I wouldn't recommend this hotel, have been to Mexico numerous times and this by far was the most disappointing.

Ok, but better options at this price point

This resort seems like it was really nice at one point but is currently in disrepair and understaffed. The grounds are beautiful and there is a lot of different places and restaurants to explore but there are better places to go in this price point. Many of the pools had lots of missing tile, were not kept clean and had a weird amount of small snails in them. Not the main pool that was very well maintained and clean. Our mirror in our room was delaminating, the jetted tub didn't work and our air-conditioning went out during the night (they did fix this 3-4 hours after we called about it). Restaurants were hit and miss kampai was absolutely fantastic, santa fae was also really good, jade was pretty bad and the other resturants had a mix of good and bad items. The royal Italian restaurant was not good, I ordered gnocchi and it was seriously only 6 gnocchi noodles. Other people also told us they did not like that resturant at all, but the one at Casitas was much better. After it rained really hard one side of the resort smelt completely like sewage for an entire day (thankfully we were not staying on that side but i don't know how anyone staying there could stand it). Room service took at minimum 1 hour and one time 3 hours. One member of our party is a former alcoholic and was given a hard time every time they ordered a virgin drink, it wasn't ment to be mean spirited but could definitely make some people uncomfortable. We were still able to have a nice time, there was just more issues at this resort then I had experienced at any other in this same price point so we would not return or recomend staying here to others. They did seem to be putting in a lot of work to the property so I hope they are able to fix some of the issues but I would recommend holding off going for now. Many of the positives available here you will find at any other resort, it's hard to not have a pretty decent time in the resort areas in Mexico, it's beautiful, the ocean is amazing and the people are fantastic.
