Explore the Explorean
we were at the explorean the last week of March 2025. When we walked in, we were given cold towels, which was a nice touch then we checked in and we were hungry so they let us eat and then we had to come back and talk about the excursions. Also at that time they’re trying to get you to do the timeshare which we said we werent interested and they will ask you throughout your stay. The explorerean has a jungle feel and it’s very quiet and peaceful. The fiesta Americana next-door is louder and rowdy and you could use all their facilities. At fiesta Americana around 4 o’clock they have snacks except for Wednesday, they did not have a snack, but they’ll make bubble waffles twice. One day they had a elote snack bar. The staff that does the snack bars are awesome! They are friendly and ask if you want more! They are definitely the best! The beds at Explorean were very comfortable. The rooms were clean pretty early, which was nice and there was a turn down which was also nice. They left a basket by your door in the am of banana bread, muffins, coffee and orange juice and the orange juice is delicious freshly squeezed. I do have to agree with the lighting. It’s a little bit dim especially when you’re putting on make up on, one of those little small light up. Mirrors would definitely be helpful. There’s only one restaurant at the explorean but they are flexible. We asked for buttered noodles one day we had asked for quesadillas and they were able to make that even though it’s not on the menu. The breakfast-buffet at the fiesta Americana is very good. We had that on our last day but wish we tried it before. There is a lady that does make fresh corn tortillas and quesadillas made to order even a small one for my daughter! She is awesome and so friendly! We did find the fiesta Americana for lunch and dinner more dinner to be a little bit lackluster like there wasn’t a tons of choices but ask for chips to eat with the guac if they aren’t out there.. My kids really liked the chicken fingers and wings at the grill. The ceviche restaurant is very good. The crows are always looking for food so have to keep sheeting them away! We went on two excursions: the dzul ha and the el cielo. The guides were good but we definitely needed another guide for dzul ha because one of the guests had a panic attack in the water and the guide had to tend to him. Dzul ha us walking distance. El cielo is a must. You take a boat about 40 min away. it was a fun excursion except I was missing a snorkel tube. We took two boats out because there’s a lot of people. On our boat my sister-in-law did not snorkel so she did not take a snorkeling mask or tube. these other two ladies, the one did snorkel the other one just sat on the boat talked on the phone and took pictures of herself but she took a snorkeling mask and tube, but she didn’t leave the boat. I don’t know why the guide didn’t ask her for the snorkel tube. They were speaking Spanish and talking so he could have easily asked her! When I asked twice if there was another tube and he said no is ok? uh not really..so me and my husband just shared his mask and tube and he snorkeled the first place and I did the second place. My husband said there was no way I could have snorkeled at at the first place without a mask and tube bec the water was so choppy. The guide wanted me to use the mask with no tube. they should’ve planned it a little bit better..they were tossing equipment back-and-forth from the boats, but you would think they would’ve had extra masks and tubes. The entertainment team at fiesta Americana is good. They try to get everybody involved. The evening entertainment is also very good for a small resort. The entertainment team works hard to keep everybody entertained from the afternoon into the evening. The evening show started at eight and they’re only 45 minutes so if dinner runs late you might miss the show. we love the coconut ice cream at the coffee shop or sometimes when they had it with a snack of the bubble waffle. There’s a large drink menu at fiesta Americana, but depending on the bartender they might or might not know how to make it. I don’t know fiesta Americana has a kids club. It never seemed to be open when we went to go look but we didn’t really need it on this trip. We enjoyed our stay at explotean and we love that we could go to the fiesta Americana when we wanted to and come back to explorean to relax in peace. Regarding this tip envelope that they give you at the end that is only for laundry and ground maintenance if you want to tip for that. Other than that, you might want to tip throughout your stay and housekeeping is also separate. I was under the impression that the envelope at the end is for everyone.

Wonderful. We will be back again.
We had a wonderful time. The Rl Cielo trip was fantastic. Armondo was a terrific guide as was all of the others. They were great at making sure that the non Spanish speaking guests understood everything that was going on The food was great and they did a great job remodeling the pool.

Good experience with excursions, poor experience with management
For how much we paid, this was a good experience. A pro was the ability to participate in an excursion each day, which was included in our stay. Our favorite excursion was the snorkel trip to El Cielo and our guides, Jaciel and Edgar, were fantastic. The wait staff and bartenders were also great and polite throughout our stay. Food was pretty good, and we loved the shrimp tacos at the Cevicheria. The food at the Asian restaurant was not very good. The major drawback of our stay was being pestered about the “presentation” for a rewards program / timeshare on multiple occasions. Management clearly treated us differently when we said no to the presentation. We were at the front desk at one point making a reservation for one of the restaurants and we could understand management talking about us in Spanish to their manager/boss, which we found rude and extremely disrespectful. This experience makes me think twice about ever going back to the Explorean.
