    First timers in Cancun

Had a lovely stay at the Golden Parnassus for 9 nights. Staff were exceptional, but they couldn't do enough, constantly cleaning, serving drinks around the pool. Oscar was super, very attentive ,chatty and charming. One downside side, hotel is looking very dated and old, definitely in enough of a refurbish. Bit on the upside, it is reality small compared to all the huge hotels along the hotel zone, which gives it a more friendly feel and not having to deal with loads of people. Food was average, just full your at breakfast and lunchtme!!! Overall a lovely stay.

This is NOT a 4 star resort.

How this resort had a 4 (out of 5) star rating is beyond me. IMO, it is 2.5 or 3 AT BEST. It is in very poor physical condition. The pictures used for the advertising must have been taken when it was new. This resort has phonemical potential if it was only maintained. It reminded me of someplace I’d stay with my buddies on spring break back in the day. Starting with what’s best about this resort: • This is one of the smaller resorts on the Cancun Resort strip. All in, 214 rooms across 6 floors. Many people we met returned year after year due to the smaller nature of the resort. • You won’t meet a nicer staff of workers. Every staff member we encountered was personable, great attitude and eager to serve. • This resort had the best beach/ocean view from the pool chairs of any resort I have ever visited. • The staff were constantly cleaning the public areas. Although it was run down, it was clean. What we didn’t like: • The physical condition of the resort. I have pictures to support most of these comments: o There is a large hole in the ceiling of the common hall. o Room doors were in various states of wear, and some were white, some wood. Best guess is some doors have been repaired and/or painted? o Many of the bathroom plumbing access panels that are in the hallway have screws that are half out/in and water stains around the openings. o The resort only has two elevators. One never worked while we were there and on one whole day, the other was out of service as well. Yes, 6 floors and no working elevator for a full day. o There are visible air conditioners/handlers on the roofs on the lower level areas where you can see severe staining down the roof from their rusting. o In our room:  The bedside lamps were attached to metal electric boxes mounted on exterior of wall and the shades were discolored.  The stone threshold to the shower had chips out of it.  The door handle of the glass door wall to the outdoor sitting area was so loose, I thought it was going to fall off.  There is no mini-fridge in your room  The air-conditioning never got the room to our set temperature. • The food is average at best (which is ok), but they have 5 restaurants and not all of them are open every day. • Air conditioning was often inadequate or non-existent in the public spaces. The place with the best air-conditioned space – the Gift Shop. And the best part: We arrived and checked in about 5PM. We got to our room after a long day of travel (from Michigan). There were no bath towels, hand towels or wash clothes in the room. I went back to the desk to ask for some so we could freshen up. Was told they would send some up. An hour later, after unpacking, still no towels. On our way out to explore the resort and get dinner, I stopped at the desk again to again, ask for towels. Told they would drop some off. We went back to our room about 10PM to retire for the evening and yes, still no towels. I went back to the desk again where they assured me they would send some up. I told them three times was enough, I would wait at the desk for them to hand me some. The desk attendant brought me bath towels, but no hand towels or wash clothes. Was a great first impression. I have never written a review on any place we’ve ever stayed before, but felt it necessary after this visit given the 4 star rating of the resort. It is NOT worthy of 4 stars, not in the physical condition it is in.

Run away as far as possible !

scary place ! do not be fooled by the pictures ! The place has black mold all over and holes in the ceilings ! can not believe that 5 star review can be written about this hotel . From the moment we arrived and got out of the taxi it's a scary place to walk into. Looks like a war zone . Old ran down place with mold and holes everywhere . We got ran down room and said we are not staying here . Went to Lobby. Manager gave us best room that they have on the 6th floor that was painted at least it had no mold . Where do I start with this place? There are no 6 or 5 or 4 or even 3 restaurants here . There is ran down scary looking buffet where you would not even eat . which is only open for breakfast and lunch. Dinner you have a choice between Japanese and or Italian . Old rusty large fans all over the restaurants , holes in walls , mold everywhere. Food was ok at the restaurants because we had no other choice. Steak house is only open once a week when Italian is closed . No buffet for dinner . Water would disappear almost every day . While I was showering water would just stop running. Then rusty water would come start running or no hot water at all every day ! The place is scary . Room service ? NO , We called and called and no one is answering . When we finally got hold of them they said it would take long time to bring us a food and no one is in the kitchen at this time. Towels ! Ran down towels with strings hanging down , No drinks in the fridge we were told to pay extra or upgrade. I said is this not all inclusive hotel? Rooms are being cleaned not every day but every other day and you have to pay extra for bottled water , they supply only 2 bottles of water every 3 days for you . Pool! That is not a swimming pool on the pictures! The depth of it is only 4 feet ! you can't not swim in it ! you can stand in it and that is it . The lights on the lobby would never turn on always dark, only 1 elevator and always broken . You had to go thru scary corridor and stairs go get to your floor with no lights mold everywhere ! We have been traveling twice a year to Cancun and have never seen anything like this before ! It was a scary place ! Every Person that was there complaint about their rooms. Towels not the beach always ran out . We were ashamed to be there . Even though we paid $250 a night but it felt like we paid $29 night type of hotel . One day we were waiting in the lobby for buffet to open up and no one was opening the doors. All staff gathered outside and would not go into hotel. They went on strike! Because the owner would not pay them the for 3 weeks and would take all their tip money. Seriously ? We watched that for about 45 minutes while they stood in the middle of the lobby screaming and chanting in Spanish. I was willing to pay any money to get out of this scary Hell place but all hotels were sold out in the area. We called around and could not find a room at another hotel. If you booked this hotel do what ever you do to cancel. You will not enjoy your stay here. Our stay was for 10 days. Life guard would not allow anyone to go into the water even with little waves. As soon as we get close to the water he would whistle and tell us to get out of the water we had to walk to Hard rock hotel to swim in the ocean. I can't imagine how someone can write 5 star review about this scary place. The employees were all very nice that is the only thing that kept us sane and the good weather.

Don't be fooled by the bad reviews

After reading a lot of the reviews on here we were not looking forward to our week at the Golden Parnassus. When we arrived we found our room too be clean if not a good bit outdated. Furniture could and should be replaced . Food was lovely although not much choice only bad meal we had was the steak at the barn it was very tough although the 2 nights before were goid but different choices..Not all restaurants are open every night as they seem to run on a limited number of staff .Bar staff and waiters were brilliant they could not do enough for you. Do not be fooled when booking a lagoon view thinking you are getting a nice view it's the hotel carpark that you look onto . Sixties bar right below rooms so very noisy at night as this is where the entertainment is but it is very limited. New management need to do a lot too this place to refurb .Would we return ...if the price was right and not over inflated.
