Time well spent
It was a different experience from the other Grand Bahia principe but very nice. Staff was very friendly place was clean, the food was good, but I was not a fan of the power going on and off Especially at night. Ohh. the mosquitoes. other than that, it was A good stay.

Average
Pristine common areas and grounds. Beautiful pools and beach. Room was large and clean but rather shabby - especially the bathroom. Friendly staff although many not well trained to handle special requests (such as wine upgrades, etc). Mediocre food even in the stand alone restaurants - a major disappointment!

Fabulous Caribbean get away. Great value for money
Please do not be put off by the numerous negative comments that you read. I was a lil apprehensive about going to this wonderful resort due to the comments I read previous to my departure. The staff work tirelessly and consistently long hours. We only found the staff to be pleasant, cheerful and attentive, however in some areas like the Al a cart restaurants, coordination of staff could be improved. Our room was freshly cleaned daily and refilled with coffee and soft drinks, the room was pleasant and the air con worked appropriately. The water pressure was a little bit low and cold, but running the taps for 10 mins before our shower was no real issue. Food in the buffet was very good for buffet standards, but yes, did become repetitive. However, no issue. The Al a cart restaurants in our opinion were not the best, but it did not spoil our opinion of the hotel. The pool was lovely and the grounds of the hotel beautiful. The beach is also beautiful, however it does not have the typical tropical Caribbean blue sea you would assume due to a river inlet further around the bay. All in all, I would probably choose to stay nearer in La Romana or punta Cana in future for this reason, however, I really cannot fault our holiday experience here. Massive thanks to Jenson and Keely in the restaurant, amazing young men, and our house keeping lady ( sorry don't know name) but block 22, was amazing as well. I hope the hotel can thank them. We were sad to leave after an amazing two weeks. JAN 5TH TO 19TH.

Lower Your Expectations. This is not a 5 Star Resort
Overall, the experience our family had at this resort certainly was not “luxury” as advertised. The buffet was overall the exact same every day, which got very old easily. The food was ok. Some things tasted great, but mostly it was mediocre. I did experience a stomach bug while staying at this resort, resulting in fever and frequent bathroom visits. I’ve never experienced this at other Dominican resorts/hotels, and I’ve visited this country many times. Upon checking in, which was a hour later than advertised, the bell boy asked where our bags were then complained in Spanish how many we had. A family member ended up loading the golf cart so we could get our bags to the room. The rooms are outdated and the room keys rarely worked. The caulking around the shower and tubs is in great need of being redone as there is mold. The bathroom ceiling looked questionable as it was a commercial drop ceiling that looked like it had been shuffled around. The shower awkwardly only had half a door, hence water went everywhere. The water was cold the first two nights. After bringing this to the attention of the staff it was fixed, yet it never was hot water, but just barely warm enough to take a shower in. The bathroom door handle randomly fell off one night as well. I’ve stayed in cheap apart-hotels in this area that have much better and luxurious rooms and bathrooms than this. A remodel is very necessary and the power kept going off. The service was hit or miss. Bartender Jose from the lobby bar was wonderful and attentive. We throughly enjoyed him at the theater and Bahia village across the street. However, other staff members sometimes were not as professional. While at the pool bar I was pouring water for myself at a self-serve dispenser. After I was done and ready to walk away, a bartender handed me an empty plastic water bottle and asked me to fill water for her. This was strange. I had no problem doing so, yet it is definitely out of place for a guest be serving an employee of a “luxury” resort. It made me wonder if the staff receive proper treatment as employees if they are to the point they have to ask guests to fill their water for them. I’ve never experienced this before at other resorts. It was weird. At the buffet, getting your glass filled with water is a hit or miss sometimes they do not ever come back to refill your glass to the point you have to hunt a staff member down and ask. At one point, a family member of mine left the table with empty water glasses asking staff if we could get a refill. An employee pointed to self-serve dispensers and told us we could pour it ourselves…. This is not luxury whatsoever. Sometimes it felt like certain staff did not care at all. At one point we made a complaint that the liquor was very watered down at the pool bar. The bartender during the time of the incident became angry of the complaint and shoved drinks towards a family member in response. The security protocols to enter and exit the hotel property are outrageous. I can understand there are real estate properties that need to be guarded, but I would not recommend this place to anyone who plans on venturing out away from the hotel during your stay. If you need someone to pick you up or if you are expecting someone to come to the hotel, you must go to reception and give them extensive information including the full name and ID number of the person driving, make and model of the vehicle, and license plate number. I had to do this over and over in order for family and transportation to enter the property during the stay. Also, sometimes the gate would be so backed up that we would be waiting outside 20-30 minutes to just come back to the hotel. It was a severe hassle every time. This place is better for guests who plan to arrive and remain on the property the entirety of their stay. Overall, we will not be returning as we were disappointed in many ways. Some parts of the hotel are good, but the majority of the experience was far from a luxury 5 Star experience. We made the most out of the experience and still figured out how to have a good time, but we won’t be coming back as it definitely wasn’t worth the thousands of dollars.

Week break in the sun
Seamless check in, advised buffet only open for another 30 minutes so dive in if hungry, didn’t bother though as very tired. Had a problem getting WI-FI so went back to reception, we were in block 28 walked the wrong way and ended up in the sister hotel, very confusing as we were told to use the map but couldn’t because of not having Wi-Fi. Reception sorted the Wi-Fi so no further navigation issues 🤣. Like most all inclusive the buffet is fabulous for 2 days then boring, if you don’t like it don’t do all inclusive. I wasn’t ill at all which is unusual for me, I always get a bad tummy. Never really queued at any of the bars so again another plus point. Room was clean and spacious but shampoo and coffee creamer wasn’t topped up, tipping the maid got the creamer but no shampoo all week. Beach was pleasant loads of beds but the sea not very clear. Pool area was huge and again loads of comfortable beds, no mad rush to throw towels down to reserve a bed at the crack of dawn, massive plus point. The main problem with the pool is the entertainment team, far too loud with the silly games and dance classes when we were there to relax. I’m no killjoy and I understand some people go for that sort of thing but it’s just too loud and the compare shouting in 5 different languages is very taxing. We ended up by the kids pool as that wasn’t as annoying. I don’t go for entertainment so perhaps this isn’t a fair review if you do want that, again in the evening the entertainment wasn’t the best, very shouty and too fast to understand. I’ve been to a few Iberostar hotels that have the same language issues but seem to be much better. We had a good holiday, not sure I’d go back but if the price was right I’d consider it is the best way to sum up. Spectacular sunsets by the way.
