Decent Resort ... Won't go back
We just returned from a one-week stay. We are frequent visitors to Cancun and are making our way around the top resorts. This was our first (and last) visit to Grand Fiesta Coral Beach. Pros: Staff: Friendly, professional, and helpful. Take plenty of singles for tipping. They work very hard and I don't think salaries are very high so tipping goes a long way. Super clean: Entire resort is spotless - they are constantly cleaning and wiping things down. Food: No difficulties making reservations for the restaurants (we reserved everything for the week as soon as we checked in) ... buffet restaurant was on the small side in terms of selection - typical all-inclusive fare. Timeshare: The timeshare rep (I'm sorry, the 'vacation club' rep) wasn't very pushy or aggressive - once we made it clear that we had no interest in attending the 'brief 45-minute (but really two hours) breakfast', he left us alone and never looked at us again during our stay. Bring the kids. ALL the kids: Extremely family friendly. Tons of kids everywhere. Every kid on the planet was here. Plenty to keep the kids busy. When our kids were younger, this would have been ideal. They're older now and the level of noise, splashing and busyness doesn't make for much relaxation but I'd read reviews ahead of time and knew to expect a lot of kids. Cons: Small beach: not much room to spread out ... you won't find an empty chair once the kids are done with breakfast ... that means it was hard to just lay back and get some sun because the volleyball net is set up RIGHT where ppl are sunbathing ... we were under constant threat of getting bashed in the face with a flying volleyball ... the entire beach experience was day after day of "heads up!" "incoming ball!" "sorry about that!" ... we were constantly on the lookout for the balls knocking our drinks over also ... it was cute the first day or two but quickly began to feel like the OPPOSITE of relaxing ... Room Humidity: This place needs humidifiers and LOTS of them. The entire room was damp for the entire week we were there. The bed linens always felt slightly damp. The curtains felt oddly moist. We kept the balcony door closed but that didn't seem to help. The room even smelled humid. I hung a wet tee-shirt in the closet on Monday. It was still damp on Friday. Also, I always pack a straw sun hat. The weather was great and I never bothered to take my hat out the room. It hung on the door for the entire week. The day that we left, the hat was damp/wet - like I'd dropped it in the ocean. It was dry when we arrived. I read other reviews that said this was a problem but didn't really take them too seriously. I should have listened. This CAN'T be healthy. Rooms need updating: Paint peeling. Lots of rust in the tub, toilet and sink. Mirrors chipped along all the edges. Old-school tub as opposed to a walk-in shower. It all felt extremely old and dated. Balcony is extremely small - just enough room to fit a table and two chairs AND there's no divider between the your balcony and the one next door so there's zero privacy if you happen to be sitting outside since the balconies are close enough to each other that you can basically step over onto the next balcony or look into their room if their curtains are open. I'd say the distance is about 8-10 inches. The balconies were also an afterthought. All in all, a decent place but this was our first and last visit. For the money that we spent (which was NOT cheap), we expected more. Spend a few dollars more and go next door to Ziva.

Fantastic Family Trip
We had the best time going to Cancun as a family over break. Every single person that works there was attentive. We did not have a single complaint. Appreciate the variety of activities and beautiful facilities... especially the entertainment staff... my son had a blast playing volleyball/soccer!!

Excellent! A must at this resort
La Joya was fantastic! Every course! Especially the poblano soup and catch of the day were delicious. The tres leeches cake and chocolate cake were so good. Special shoutout to Miguel Dzul, Fernando, and Rodrigo for excellent service. The mariachi made for a beautiful evening. They played a romantic piece surrounding our table for my fiance and I after bringing out flowers just for us. It was a wonderful experience 10/10!!
