My new favorite Vail hotel!
Recently stayed on business. Wish my family could’ve come stay with me, there were so many great amenities here. Love how convenient it is to go skiing from here, rented skis for the first time (from ski shop located within hotel) and rode chair 20 up the mountain (literally right behind the hotel!). Ventures ski shop was super helpful figuring out what gear I needed to ski, I ended up buying myself goggles, helmet, and gloves with a discount just for staying at this hotel. I had a nice room with pretty view of the front of hotel and mountain. Beds were pretty comfy, requested a few extra pillows as I felt lonely sleeping without my pups. So many well behaved dogs in the hotel, I need to bring my boys next time. Also loved that there was a self service laundry room to launder my clothes too (I didn’t pack enough warm clothes). Honestly best time to come visit after the holidays, felt like we had the hotel to ourselves - great attentive service!

Ideal for families
You can't beat a ski in and ski out location like this. The Grand Hyatt Vail was able to provide our family with an in room crib. The hotel director gifted our daughter with a stuffed animal from the gift shop. We would love to visit again in the future.

Classy hotel experience in Vail
I stayed three nights at the Hyatt and found it to be a deluxe hotel experience well suited for a few days of skiing. The hotel staff does a great job making the ski experience seamless — the valet delivers skis from the car directly to the ski shop and vice versa. The ski shop is very well run and efficient; the chair lift is immediately adjacent to the ski shop. So easy to get on the mountain. The deluxe room had a mountain view, which is both beautiful and quiet. The room itself was comfortable and reasonably sized, with sufficient drawer space and a nice shower (but in need of hooks for hanging clothes). The outdoor hot tubs and pool were a great apres ski amenity. I was too exhausted to use the fitness center, but it looked spacious and well equipped. There is a separate room for yoga and other classes. The hotel is located on the westerly end of Vail and has only two restaurants on site; so, it is necessary to go to Lionshead or to the main village to find diverse retail and dining opportunities. Lionshead is an easy 20 minute walk. Otherwise, the hotel operates a very convenient shuttle on a frequent basis to both Lionshead and the main village, so you never have to get in your car. I would not characterize the hotel as a 5-star property, but it is a very nice and comfortable hotel, and I would certainly return.

Average Luxury Hotel for Vail
For Vail, I think that a 3 out of 5 or Average rating is fair. It probably would rate a 4 in most other locations. But price-wise for Vail, the Grand Hyatt seems reasonable on an extreme scale in a place where nightly rates are generally beyond outrageous. My rating is largely based on signs of wear. The carpets in the halls seem a bit worn. The wallpaper a bit drab - and wallpaper to begin with. Our mattress was quite comfortable and the bathroom nice if on the tight side. The room was small by current standards but sufficient. The furniture in the room seemed dated. And most telling was the window which had handles to open but not handle to close and a broken hatch besides which required a visit from maintenance on a cold night. (At least post a sticker: “Please do not open.”) The phone to call for maintenance functioned poorly - but maintenance came quickly. The ski room could also use a redesign as it became crowded too easily. Hotels at Vail with a ski in and out feature should have an exceptional ski room. The infinity pool was nice enough if not grand but the hot tub was unappealing. The onsite chairlift is old but functional. They have a regular bus service through town, the staff was friendly, and the food was nice with a first class, new sushi restaurant. The spa seems to cover all you’d expect. The hotel is on one end of Vail meaning you have to travel to get into town, if you’re looking for the town. But you can spend a week of skiing just staying and eating etc. around the hotel. They could replace the windows and upgrade the carpet but you can spend a nice ski vacation at the Grand Hyatt as is, but it’s just not quite the highest end place you expect when you think Vail.

Best skiing ski out experience in Vail. Hyatt rewards are the bomb!
Get the suite, but really this place is on par with The Peaks in telluride and The Cliff Lodge in Snowbird, but with all the benefits of a Hyatt loyalty program. I’d rather “ski in and ski out” here than anywhere in vail. Hot tubs were HOT! New lobby lounge furniture was much better than last year.
