The good and the bad.
My friend and I checked into the Grand Palladium Bavaro late Wednesday afternoon on February 26th. Our flight had been delayed an hour and 20 mins. Although we had requested, ahead of our arrival, a ground floor room due to mobility issues, we were assigned a second floor room. On requesting a ground floor room at check- in, the clerk asked the supervisor to change it. We were then given room 1902. We decided to go for dinner ( the food at this resort is very good and plentiful with a lot of variety, from the buffets to the A la Carte's.) On our return to the room, we unpacked our suitcases. During which time, the electricity was on and off every few minutes. The air conditioning did not function. We tried several times to call the front desk to no avail. By this time, we were so tired and went to sleep. In the morning, my friend stepped into a puddle of water beside her bed and another one close to the sink area. Definitely a hazard and especially for someone with mobility issues. On our way to breakfast, we reported the issues to the front desk clerk who refered us to the Guest services person ( Bryan). Bryan advised us to report back at 3pm and we would be assigned to another room. So, we packed our bags. We also made a report to Sulin, the Air Canada rep who followed up with us to ensure the second room was ok. By the time, we had settled and unpacked, most of our day had gone by. Late on the 27th, we saw a family coming out of Room 1902 in the process of changing rooms. We found it incredible that 1902 would be reassigned to someone without the problems having been resolved. This resort is one of three connecting resorts and it is challenging to find sun loungers on the beach. There are no attendants to assist as in many otherxresorts wexhave visited. Today, Sunday we had placed our towels and personalbitems on two loungers. After being there a short while, we went back to our room to retrieve some items thatcwe had forgotten. On our return, we found our towels and loungers had been taken by other guests whovprofessed not to speak English and denying in their own language anything about the loungers or towels. Our yowel clips had been tossed and we only found one. Ps. Bryan is super.

No A/C
Have been to this report several times in the past and have had zero issues. This time has been different. First room was not as requested (near beach, king bed etc) not to mention several issues of items broken or not working in the room. Ended up having to complain many times and the next day we were assigned a room closer to the beach with a king bed, the inly problem - the a/c does not work and the room is at 29.5 degrees. Cannot sleep, uncomfortable. Issue has still not been resolved after several request.

Winter Sun Delight
It was our first time in the Dominican Republic and we chose Bavaro Suites for its choice of restaurants and bars. On arrival we were checked into our room as were surprised with the wonderful suite with rooftop terrace that we had booked and also the size of the room. Our room was steps away from the glorious sandy beach with turquoise waves where we spent much of our time. We booked our meals in advance like other guests suggest which makes it easier to plan your evenings. Food overall was very good with Sumptuori Show Cooking was an unforgettable experience with fantastic chefs who put on an amazing show of their cooking in front of you. Our rep Cely from Tui was great however we found that trying to get drinks during all food services slow as there didn't appear to be enough staff to manage all the guests in the restaurants but generally the drinks were good once they arrived. We stayed for 10 days and were satisfied with our overall stay especially with glorious winter sunshine in February.

They need to offer better live music!
Food: pretty good; But we had to complain that ALL the plates were not cleaned properly, but our complaint was taken very seriously and they improved. The food had a large variety and was well tended. Drinks: the Mojitos weren’t very good, but the wine was excellent - red wine and bubbly. The bartenders were very nice. Pool: Pretty nice; no complaints Beach: steep and big waves. The sand is nice but slants a lot and I couldn’t swim because of the waves. Also the boats going up and down made even more waves Grounds: Fabulous; lovely trees, plants, and landscaping Activities: We could go to any of the 4 resorts linked together, so lots to do if you look. We just enjoyed beach, pool, dining and walking around. Rooms: Very nice; nothing to complain about. Service: Really good; nice people; hardworking Entertainment: Terrible. I’m used to the live music in Cuba, so this sucked. No live music; just someone with a mic singing along to a soundtrack. The DJ one night didn’t play any dance music and ignored our request. Our best night was with a lady called Dylane singing local dance music and a staff leading our dance moves. But that was only ONE night. We kept hoping to dance and the music SUCKED! My pet peeve (in every resort) is people who put a towel on a chair at the pool AND the beach, and are barely ever there! Meanwhile, you can’t find a place in the shade!! Not very nice. Don’t be that person!

Things have turned around
Earlier into our vacation I wrote a review about the Grand Palladium Bavaro that wasn’t the most positive , but since then have deleted as things have turned around for the better. Ramon took my concerns seriously reached out and along with Jason from guest services fixed and addressed all of our room issues. Thank you to you both. Our room(superior) is spacious and the bathroom is also quite large and private. Grounds here are well kept and beautiful, the beach is stunning and also well kept. But be prepared to be asked a number of times to buy stuff from the vendors that walk the beach. The buffet is hit or miss with me, but that’s my personal preference. We have eaten at a couple of the à la carts like the Mexican, it was ok and the steakhouse , was great really enjoyed. Tonight we dined at the Japanese and it too was good. We have two more booked and hear good things about them ,time will tell. The couples massage at the spa is a must. And they offer a wide array of products and other services. That’s it for now ! We have a few days lefts and I may add more later.
