    Christmas break

Just returned from 2 weeks in the Riviera and had a great time. 10th time now in Mexico and 3rd Christmas. Biggest Hotel we have ever stayed at. Grounds really beautiful room a bit dated but clean and comfortable with fantastic shower. Hotel very clean and well worth a visit. Food was very good and tried two of the themed restaurants which were also very nice. Staff were nice and friendly and had some nice chats with Margarita whilst she served us our drinks in the evening. Ignore some of these negative reviews sure some of these people just like to pick faults wherever they go

    Very bad hotel

On arrival at the hotel the rooms we were given were on the ground floor when we asked for rooms on the third floor. The room we were given stunk and had mold around the air conditioning The fridge and TV did not work there were tiles broken in the shower floor which were dangerous The telephone hand set was dirty the sink was cracked the bedside drawers were broken I went back to reception to be told there were no other room’s available also I was told that I have got what I paid for.I asked why the fridge wasn’t working And was told the fridge was there just to store the drinks not to make them cold The staff behind reception were rude and very unprofessional the lady supervisor hid in the back office and refused to talk to us We ended up sleeping in the room until We could sort it out the next day This is not a 5 star hotel like advertised And would not recommend it to anyone

    Pretty Blah

This is a huge resort that is quite old and is need of repair and updating. It caters to families so it’s loud. The buffet food is hit and miss depending what you eat. The reservation system for the a la carte restaurants is ridiculous - you must book 2 days in advance per room not per family so it’s cumbersome if you have 6 family members for instance. This situation doesn’t apply of course if you upgrade to platinum. Also since on day one of our arrival we were not in time to pre book so our family of 6 decided to see if we could get a spot at one of the Al a carte restaurants as my daughters managed to book 1 person in their 2 person room - Magically we were permitted entry to the restaurant for all 6 of us as long as we paid $60 USD for what was pretty much a $10 bottle - really unimpressed with this low class bribery system Most of the tiles are chipped, peeling, fading in the pools The servers and bartenders do work hard and are very good although there are not enough of them for the size of this resort The rooms are dated and plain but they are clean I pretty much had to walk 10 minutes everyday from my room to get a coffee in the morning - not a big deal but speaks to the size of this place This is a 4 star not 5 and is pretty mediocre - there’s better places to stay in Mexico and they don’t have a bribery system for dinner

Beautiful property and wildlife but I wouldn't return

I stayed at this hotel for 2 weeks. Opinions about the hotel are mixed. On the first and second nights (late in the evening) someone opened the door to my room (at a time when most people were at evening shows). On the third evening there was a knock on my door with an offer to change the towels (it was late in the evening). When I asked at the reception how many times the cleaners come, I was told once a day and before that they had already come earlier. After that day, no one came with such an offer anymore. On the 4th day an unpleasant event occurred as all the money disappeared from the safe. I reported about that the hotel security (which took a time to fill out forms, etc.). A few days later the money miraculously appeared in the room. However my mood was already spoiled. I had to carry all my expensive stuff with me all the time (I had a camera that was quite expensive for me). I have been traveling for over 25 years and stayed in different categories of hotels and to be honest this was the first time what happened to me. On the second week I got food poisoning from the main buffet. I was sick all night and had terrible diarrhea for a week after that! By the way this didn't only happen to me, because the same night I heard people in other rooms also throwing up terribly . After that for the rest of my vacation, I couldn't eat or drink anything except green tea and apples. And even after returning home, it took me a time to recover. Positive aspects of the hotel: The property is very beautiful and well-kept. The wildlife is touching. As for me I didn't have any problems with the coati. But I didn't eat outside and I never had food with me and these cute little animals didn't bother me. It was really nice to watch animals so close (deer, coati, agouti, iguanas, monkeys). I really like it, great experience. I stayed in a junior room. The room was clean and everything worked well. The shower and toilet were clean and looked more or less new. The beach area was very beautiful with plenty of sunbeds. However the sea is too shallow for swimming, you can only stand in water. For those who like swimming this is not the best place. For me it was Ok. This was my first visit to Mexico. I went on several excursions (I did not buy them at the hotel). And the excursions made my opinion of Mexico wonderful, but unfortunately I can't say the same about the hotel after all.

For the price, I have seen better

Very nice, comfortable and clean room. Nice beach but smelly sometimes. Excellent buffet for breakfast and lunch but the A la carte restaurants are below average. Most of the food is warm, not hot and no ambiance in all the restaurants we tried. At the Mexican restaurant, at the end of the meal a gentleman comes around with his tequila cart for us to try without telling us we would be charge for it. After ordering two tequilas he told us the $3 - $4 each will be charge to our room which was ok but only to realize it cost us $20 US dollars. The evening entertainment was great, the shows at the theatre and the music after. Finally….the coatis…very cute at the beginning but very annoying at the end. The leave you alone at the beach but at the pools the steal your food, spill drinks everywhere and try to steal your stuff.
