    Family Getaway

This is a top notch all inclusive. Nice beach to walk everyday. Gym was fantastic. Family suite with 2 connecting rooms was extremely spacious and comfortable. Food at Frida was the best we had the entire stay truly amazing. We also dined at Velas 10, Cocina de Autor and Luca. Cocina is supposed to be Michelin star, however was just ok and Frida was far and above better food and service wise so I would not recommend it. The Ceviche bar was outstanding. Pool side food and various food stations was also good. Breakfast is plentiful at Azul. The spa is out of this world. One of the best I have been to and I have the pleasure of staying in many 5 star hotels. Every staff member stops works so hard. Everyone we passed who worked there stopped and greeted us with a smile. The last day we a staff member stopped by when were relaxing by the pool try to get us to lock in another stay. I felt that was very off market for a luxury hotel. The hotel should work on providing better concierge service and this is where they really fall short and don’t deserve a 5 star rating. Trying to reach concierge prior to the trip to ask pretty basic questions to plan for activities was like pulling teeth. No one responds you’re lucky to get a response in 10 days and cross your fingers if you have a follow up question. As a result we planned a private boat to go out to see the whales off property on our own since we couldn’t get responses from concierge. When we arrived we were assigned a concierge and he rushed us through. It’s a shame because aside from this and the tacky resell approach would be a 5 star resort. A little helpful note they say gratuities are included but I am not sure how much goes to the staff so we tipped everyone and at every meal, including poolside.

    Amazing Experience

Our entire experience at the Grand Velas Los Cabos was spectacular. From the moment we arrived, we were taken care of. Our concierge, Ana, was so helpful and arranged for anything needed during our stay. The food and drinks at each restaurant we dined at was top notch. Even the pool menu food was amazing. The facilities were so modern, clean, and high-end. We definitely plan to return, and will likely bring our kids next time!

    When Luxury Meets Reality

As so many have already said, the Grand Velas is undoubtedly a beautiful resort. The entire property is well-maintained and very clean. Our suite (Governors – One Bedroom) was spacious, spotless, and stocked with a great selection of snacks and beverages. Elisa, our concierge, was exceptional—always available to help and even surprised us twice with champagne and treats in our room. Despite the resort’s many strengths, there were a few things we experienced that kept me from giving it a five-star rating. It all began months before our arrival. Grand Velas is known for its high-quality dining, with multiple restaurants offering diverse menus. It's highly recommended to make dinner reservations in advance, but we encountered significant delays in getting responses to our requests—multiple emails over two weeks just to confirm reservations. Why should this take so long? The resort also requires a casual-elegant dress code for most dinners, including long pants and collared shirts for men. While this wasn’t an issue for me, we were surprised to see other guests wearing shorts and t-shirts. Had I known, I would have packed a lot less clothing. The spa was beautiful, and we were treated to a 90-minute “Water Celebration,” which was fantastic. However, when we inquired about a couples massage, we were quoted $960 for 90 minutes or $700 for 60 minutes. With tips included, the 90-minute treatment would total over $1,000. Sorry, but that’s insane. The property was only about 25% occupied, and while there were plenty of families, we were glad there were adult-only areas. Kids and teens were well-catered for with various activities, but the lack of nightlife was noticeable. On the three nights we went to the SkyBar (the only bar with music and a dance floor), there were maybe just one or two couples there, and there was little to no evening entertainment elsewhere on the property. The most contentious issue was tipping after dining. This was a hot topic on a daily basis while talking to others as we lounged by the pool. The majority consensus was one of confusion about how much to tip, or frustration that after dropping $10K+ for a week, you’re still not done paying after you eat. At the end of each meal (buffet included), you are handed a bill with an "Other" line for tips, requiring a signature and room number. While tipping wasn’t mandatory, the system made many feel pressured to do so. For the record, I am not anti-tipping, but the whole thing seemed a little odd, and why label it as “Other” when it should just say “Tip”? Another guest angrily complained that having been to the resort six times prior to a few years ago, this was not done before. A side consequence of this extends to the breakfast and lunch buffets. The waiters bring your beverages, and on several occasions, we couldn’t leave when we were done eating because we had to wait for the server to circle back and bring a bill before we could get on with our day. Additionally, there were times when we ordered beverages before going up to the buffet and received nothing to drink until halfway through the meal. It all just seemed so unnecessary. Grand Velas is a stunning property with a hard-working staff, but based on what you're paying, the lengthy reservation process, inconsistent dress code enforcement, exorbitant spa prices, and tipping policies need attention. I’m sure you’ll love the food and have a great time—just know what to expect.
