Paradise Found! 🌴🥥🍍✨💫
Situated on 75 sprawling acres above Maui’s rugged eastern coastline, the Hana-Maui resort is a welcoming retreat from the tourist hubbub. We stayed in one of the resort’s fabulous oceanfront bungalows that provides privacy, ample space, and sweeping coastline views. A visit to Maui is not complete without experiencing the iconic beauty of Hāna. Maui-Hana’s Plane to Paradise Package made the journey easily accessible, transporting us in style via a Cessna that flew us from Maui’s Kahuli Airport directly to Hāna, and, after our stay, to Honolulu. The flight provided incredible vistas of Maui’s northern coastline and waterfalls (as well as views of Moloka’i and Lānaʻi on the trip back), while allowing us to avoid the long, perilous Road to Hana. At the resort, we rented a jeep so we could drive to destinations in eastern Maui at our leisure. Whether walking the grounds of the resort to admire its many vistas and the hotel’s lava-rock accents, lounging by the elegant infinity pool or taking in the view from the spa’s private courtyard, Maui-Hana brings extraordinary comfort to the wilds of Maui. We made friends with guests and the bartender while enjoying mai tais by the pool and received therapeutic massage treatments at the spa. The entire hotel staff—most of them long-time locals—were extraordinarily friendly and we were thankful to have the valets to shuttle us around the grounds in golf carts. After watching sunrise from our bungalow’s deck, we were treated to a lovely in-room breakfast from the Restaurant at Hana-Maui—the loco moco was sensational. After a day of adventures, we were revived by a delicious dinner at Hana Ranch Restaurant, where both the brussels sprouts and the ribs with a tangy island bbq sauce were addictive. The beaches of eastern Maui are spectacular and varied: gorgeous white sand, red sand, and black sand beaches. Hamoa Beach is a wide, beautiful white sand beach with a wonderful calm bay, perfect for sunbathing and swimming. Make sure to stop and see the surfers at Koki Beach and try the world-famous Huli Huli chicken. Waiʻānapanapa State Park (reservations required) is a jewel, featuring a unique black sand beach and a trail that meanders through coves overlooking spectacular cliffs, sea caves, and arches. We were mesmerized by the crashing waves. Just steps from the hotel is a somewhat treacherous trail to a private cove that is home to Kaihalulu Red Sand Beach where, one morning, we had the entire beach to ourselves! We also took our jeep to the Kīpahulu District of Haleakalā National Park, stopping by Wailua Falls on the way. The waterfalls and Seven Sacred Pools of ‘Ohe’o Gulch are a must-see and well worth the drive. We hiked up the Pipiwai Trail through lush tropical jungles past a giant banyan tree on the way to Waimoku Falls. The highlight of the trail is a serene bamboo forest with lovely waterfalls and relaxing pools where we dipped our feet before hiking back. On another excursion, we ventured underground to caverns created by lava flows. While we stayed at Maui-Hana three nights, there are so many destinations, it seemed hardly enough. I can’t imagine trying to cram a visit to Hāna into one day with only a few moments at each beautiful site, bookended by a treacherous drive. Take your time. And relax. Stay at Maui-Hana.

Nice, but...
Beautiful location -- duh! -- but lacking in many ways. The people who work there are fabulous, but the resort needs some updating. Booked a mid-range room and was surprised it was (1) by the main road, (2) no air conditioning, (3) the fans provided didn't work properly. Had to upgrade at a cost to stay in room with A/C, but the cost was less than it could have been thanks to a very sweet person at check-in who went to bat for us. Would recommend you book an ocean view room, or at least check to see if your room will have A/C. Also, you need to be carted around the grounds a lot with luggage, so bring lots of cash for tipping. The only restaurant is just OK, not great. We had better luck with the food trucks. Overall, we enjoyed our time in Hana but probably will not go back.

Great place to stay in Hana!
Beautiful hotel with the nicest staff. Spent 3 days there, but could have spent a week. The hotel needs a little upkeep to truly be a 4-star hotel, it has definitely been neglegated, but it is more just visual appearance and does not affect the stay!

A trip to Old Hawaii
A wonderful vacation spot with my 4 1/2 and 6 year old granddaughters. You can't find anyplace as beautiful as Hana - Everyone is friendly and helpful. Hawaii at it's Best. Hana is the Garden spot of the Islands. Flowers blooming. coconut trees blowing in the breeze brings back the charm of the Islands. Aloha Sherry
