Mar 31, 2025Heads up - No mattresses on beach beds!
I’ve been to this resort over 10 times. One of the MAIN reasons I kept coming here were their beach chairs/loungers/beds (whatever you call them). For years there were mattresses on top of these beach chairs and now they are gone. For someone like me who has back problems and who comes for the beach, this is a MAJOR problem. The beach beds without the mattresses are very uncomfortable. I asked several staff members where the mattresses went and if they’re coming back and apparently no-one has any idea what I’m talking about, which makes me think the mattresses are a thing of a past. The manager at Diamond Club told me that the beach mattresses are probably being cleaned. Perhaps?… but frankly… doubt it. He also told me we’ll be provided memory foam pillows like the last times we were here, but that didn’t happen. The synthetic pillows here are awful btw, so if you have neck/back issues, bring your own (you can thank me later ;)).

Honest review + tips and recommendations
We just completed a 4 day trip at the Hideaway Royalton Riviera in Cancun, which is advertised as an adults only resort. First, that's not entirely true. The Hideaway portion of the resort is adults only, but it is a small part of a much larger resort. Other than having one restaurant, two pools and a couple of bars, everything else is in the main part of the resort. For us, this was not an issue, but for some it might be. Yes, the drinks are VERY weak. If we were to do this again, we would buy a bottle of booze at the duty free and would have used it to spike our drinks. The food is hit or miss. We went to a different restaurant for lunch and dinner and hit the buffet a couple of times and also had breakfast there each morning, which was good. Off the menu items varied. The mashed potatoes at Hunter's were disgusting. While the grouper at Dorado was delicious. Portions are typically small. But it is an all-inclusive, so we never went too long without snacking on something. Speaking of dinners, the reservation system is a nightmare. Things bookup very quickly. Download the app BEFORE you arrive. If you check-in before your room is ready, ask them to assign you a temporary room number, so you can login and IMMEDIATELY start making reservations. If you wait, you will miss out. We made out great, but it shouldn't be this difficult. I simply think there isn't enough restaurants for the size of the resort. The one good spot in the entire resort for coffee is Scoops, which also has Gelato and other tasty sweets. The coffee everywhere else is BAD! Upon check-in you will be pressured into some sort of time share infomercial session. We were offered free massages, but declined. After that we were no longer pressured. Although our concierge clearly was not please with us. Oh well, we just carried on and enjoyed our vacation. This vacation was very affordable, and to some extent, you get what you pay for. Overall, we enjoyed our stay but are glad we read the reviews to manage our expectations.

Bartender review!
Diego, Miguel, Elvis, and Jose are the best bartenders at the hotel and were very helpful! The swim up bar was the best part of our stay because of them!! Great service and great people!!! Would definitely recommend staying at the Royalton riviera Cancún!
