Horrible cabana service from Outriggers
Rented a cabana for each day of our stay. Cabanas don’t come cheap at nearly $370/day after taxes. This includes absolutely no service. They don’t setup, they don’t clean, they don’t provide towels. First day I arrived, someone was using my cabana - had to get the staff who was annoyed they had to come tell people to move. They didn’t clean up the mess those people left behind, I had to do it myself. 2nd day - arrived at my cabana and half the furniture was missing - no lounge chair, no comfy chair and no tables - basically just two dirty couches. Again staff was annoyed when I asked them to find me the missing furniture. Day 3 is tomorrow- I will update. Both tables yesterdays and todays are so broken and crooked it can barely hold food.

Honest review
We come to Maui yearly, this is our first time at Honua Kai. Honest Summary: You’re better offer renting through a 3rd party, you will then have access to umbrellas and chairs along with a vending machine for towels. Renting through the resort has no perks, if anything you will get less. The beds were decent, nothing to brag about. Sheets are work and torn. There is no house cleaning, unless you stay over a week then they will come once. You can call for towels and sheets which will come at some point during the day. Our suite had either a moldy or fishy smell every-time upon entering. Introduction and exit were mediocre. The store is less equipped than others, we walked or drove to get most necessities. This resort should definitely step it up a notch to be comparable to others for this price. We will definitely choose another resort next year. Pros: parking at most times.

Great vacation
Amazing site and people. Great service. Room feels like being at home. Nice and long beach walk. A bit on the upside price wise but well worth it. On top of it all, Maui is a great destination for combining beach activities and descovery of the island. We rented a car for the week. That is the best way to move around and get to where you want to go.

A lovely little condo, perfect for a relaxing getaway
The quiet, fully-equipped 4th floor condo at Honua Kai was perfect for us (a couple in our late 60s). The nearest supermarket is a 12-minute walk, so it was easy to buy food and wine to keep ourselves fed. That said, we also enjoyed eating lunch and dinner at Duke's on the property (we never got up early enough for breakfast there) as well as other places within walking distance when Duke's was too busy (which happens -- make reservations in advance). We didn't rent a car -- Ubered to/from OGG. No problems with the condo. A/C worked great, as did all the appliances (although the dryer takes a long time to dry, since it is not externally vented). They even provide beach chairs and a cooler. The lanai was a perfect spot for eating, reading, and napping. The beach at this location is perfect for sunbathing, but the bottom is a little rocky, which can make entering/exiting the water a little tricky. Lots of beach to choose from though. And the boardwalk makes it quick and easy. We walked down to Black Rock (about 30 minutes) to catch a whale-watching sail from Teralani. Spent a relaxing 10 days here. Would return in a heartbeat. Recommended.

Lovely resort with great pool area and nice amenities
We've stayed at the Honua Kai resort many times, and have always enjoyed our stay. We love the grounds, the location and the overall ambiance of the resort, and the amenities are very nice. On our most recent visit however, our Hakulani suite had a number of issues including non-functioning appliances and inadequate kitchenware. We actually had to purchase cooking pans to be able to prepare meals, as the two pans that were in the suite were in terrible shape. We also had issues with the washing machine and dryer, in-room safe, and the ice maker in the refrigerator, each which required a service call. The maintenance staff was very professional though, and quick to respond. Such was not the case with the front desk, as our calls often went unanswered, forcing us to walk downstairs to request assistance in person. Overall, we enjoyed our stay, but the issues with the suite did somewhat dampen the overall experience, as our previous stays in the Konea tower had always been exceptional.
