    It’s a HOSTEL, not a hotel

Virtually windowless micro units. This is NOT a hotel. Do not stay here unless you want to stay in a hostel. The lobby is pretty and the neighborhood is fun, but the rooms are terrible. The only “window” in the room is to the hallway. There’s no way you’d ever raise the shade. Ugh.

    A MARVELLOUS STAY

As a group of 10 family members, we stayed in 5 rooms over a 6 day period to attend a wedding and were highly pleased with our experience. From the moment we arrived, our needs were accommodated thanks to the consideration and friendliness of the staff. They met all our requests and were very helpful in organizing transportation for such a large group and giving us plenty of local tips. Recent renovations have added to the quaint, modern and tropical design of the hotel. The rooms are clean and are of a decent size plus have all the essentials including WIFI and air conditioning. The convenience of the location is a stand out to explore everything the historic center has to offer on foot. We thoroughly enjoyed the all inclusive breakfasts which were always prepared fresh to order and featured generous portions. In fact, the the kitchen was made available at all hours to us to prepare delicious Colombian coffee whenever we wanted. The highlight of our stay was staff facilitating a mariachi serenade on our final night making full use of the small rooftop area. We couldn't have asked for a more special or memorable end to our time in Cartagena and would gladly return to Casa Alpha on future trips. We are so very grateful to all the staff and although we don't remember all their names, we would like to recognize Henry in particular for his kindness.

    Cartagena

The room was in the main corridor on the bottom floor. You can hear everything going on in the street and reception which can be annoying. There looks to be newer rooms in a certain part of the hotel but we had been put in this one. Room 103. It’s dark and has no natural light as the window faces the corridor of the hotel. The rooftop area is tiny and there is no bar up there. Given a cocktail on arrival. We had a private double room. It was a good size and clean. The shower was ok but it has no hot water. The A/C worked great. We had a fridge, TV, and the WiFi was good. Excellent location within the walls of Cartagena close to shops, bars and restaurants. Staff are friendly and helpful.

    Disappointing to say the least

Staff cares nothing about the guests. Tiny claustrophobic rooms, made worse by the lack of common areas to gather. Only common space is the unwelcoming and uncomfortable front desk area where staff congregate and chat while ignoring guests. You are well advised to chose any other hotel in the historic center. Completely not worth the cost. Their communication is lacking as well. If you send them a question via email, you’ll understand what I am talking about. Still waiting for a response from an email sent three weeks ago with a follow up email one week ago. Called them as well. Save your pesos.

Good location but rooms need some work

We booked a room for New Year’s Eve at Casa Alpha for the last night of our 10 day trip to Colombia. The location is good (edge of the old city, just enough out of the fray that it’s very peaceful) though we ended up preferring the slightly more artsy and gritty vibe of the getsemani neighborhood and would stay there in the future. Overall we found the hotel to be a bit lacking; the Wi-Fi was having an issue so we were unable to use it, and the room we were in was concrete so our cell signal didn’t work well making meeting up with friends and planning a bit tricky. The room seemed like it had just been constructed (it still smelled like drywall) and the bathroom and shower open into the room with only glass partitions so there’s not much privacy (worked for us as a couple, but wouldn’t be ideal for a family with grown kids). Additionally, there was hair on the shower floor which was a bit gross (though everything else seemed clean). Positives: the AC worked, the bed was comfortable, and the hotel staff was kind and helpful.
