DO NOT STAY HERE

Do not stay here!!! I made a reservation here and paid up front ($245 for the night!) when we arrived at the hotel we were informed that they double booked our room and that they would get us a room in another hotel “close by”. The other hotel is in a different neighborhood, not even walking distance to the city center and costs half the price as this hotel. They refused to reimburse me for the price difference and although they called a taxi for us and paid for the taxi to the other hotel, it took a very long time.

Colorful Casa in the Old City

We loved our stay in the heart of the walled city in this colonial gem. The hotel on on a gorgeous, colorful street in Old Town - instagrammers get your phones ready for some beautiful pictures! We had a lovely room with lots of light and great air conditioning. The room also had a safe, a mini fridge, and good wifi. We felt very secure with the locked front gate controlled by the hotel staff. Speaking of the staff - they are excellent! Kind, warm service every moment of our stay. Our bathroom had a bit of an awkward layout but little quirks are expected in a classic building. A delicious breakfast is served in the morning on a charming rooftop patio. We easily walked around the city from this location to markets, shops, and restaurants. Also located on the street is Sico Bike Rental - see Yudi to hook you up with great tours to Rosario Islands or Play Blanca. And check out La Cocina Cartagenera down the street for amazing food - get the arroz sepultado. Easy 15 peso cab ride to and from the airport. The hotel made our stay in Cartagena one to remember.

Friendly staff, basic amenities

The staff at Casa Los Puntales are extremely friendly and we did very well with my limited Spanish and their limited English - hand gestures and google translate will be your best friends! The room itself was quite basic but fairly clean. The bathroom was tiny and you needed to put your feet in the shower when using the toilet. The water needed to be left running for 8-10 minutes for it to be warm and it certainly never got close to hot but was decent enough to shower in. The biggest issue was the rooms facing an internal courtyard meant you heard a lot of noise from other guests coming and going. Others have commented on noise from a bar across the street but my room was right at the front of the hotel and I never heard any music from the bar. The other issue was the lack of light/privacy - you could have one but not the other as all windows looked out over communal areas so other guests could see on your room if you had your blinds open - I left them closed but it made the room seem dingy. The location was fantastic in the old town with lots of great food options nearby and everything walkable but I’m sure that’s the same for most hotels in the area.

Cute little hotel

Good location, with nice staff. We had a few issues with power during our stay - they were city wide and no fault of the hotel, and the staff were very helpful during these, and kept us up to date with what was happening. The breakfast serviced on the roof top is tasty, and the rooms very clean.

Average at best

Hotel is ok however could be vastly improved. Rooms are clean however they are also dark. One of our group had no windows in their room. Rooms at the front are very very noisy as there is a bar next door that plays music until 4am - avoid these. We had no hot water for 3 days and the taps in the shower were broken. The staff are nice however they clearly have had no training in providing a decent service, they look very surprised whenever you ask for something (a spare key, details of the hotel, things to do etc) and they never smile!! Breakfast is nice as is the roof terrace it is served on, again however the staff almost seem that it is an inconvenience for them to have be there. Given the choice I would avoid this hotel as there are much nicer places to stay in Cartagena.
