    Always Top of Class

I always love staying at the Grande Bretagne. Without a doubt, the hotel is impressive, but what sets it apart from all its peers is the top level of professionalism and service that staff provide. No request is too daunting, and they will always do their best to accommodate their guests. I'm on the road more often than I'm at home, so I experience staff from all over the globe, and none are better than those at the GB. Whether it's Front Desk staff who remember your previous stays or restaurant staff that have memorized your favorites, it's a level of service that is becoming quite rare. I firmly believe that a team is led from the top through example and GM, Hom Parviz, absolutely shines in that regard. The rooms and suites I have occupied over the years have been sumptuous and elegant. Nothing is ever amiss, no detail overlooked. Nothing surpasses waking up to a view of the Acropolis or Syntagma Square and/or enjoying breakfast with that same impressive sight dominating the entire rooftop dining room. It doesn't hurt that the quality of the F&B matches the surroundings. The Eggs Benedict are absolutely the best. I've never been disappointed with a meal in either the rooftop Summer Garden nor in the lobby level Winter Garden. A special treat in the latter is the Thursday Opera night. It's a magical experience. I honestly love staying at the GB any time circumstances allow. I can't wait until my next visit.

    A lovely hotel

A lovely hotel with fabulous rooftop restaurant overlooking the Acropolis. Very nice room. The Winter garden restaurant is also pleasant for lunch. The staff are efficient and friendly. Only a 20 minute walk from the Acropolis and near to Plaka

    THE Athens hotel...

...is this one: right next to the Syntagma Square, it is so easy to reach and so central, it makes exploring the city easy as pie! From the moment one walks in, they are immersed in old-fashioned class, detailed elegance and discreet luxury: the lobby and reception area feature enough art and history, they are a delightful distraction; the rooms have beautiful furniture and magnificent bed linen; the bathrooms are all marble and fluffy towels! The breakfast restaurant overlooks the Acropolis and if you wish for a quiet room, ask for one facing the courtyard: flowers on the windowsill and not a hint of city noise! The only thing more impressive than the building is the people here: Eleni at the front desk was polite and made the, usually boring, check-in process fast and informative; Ioulia at breakfast was funny and caring (their eggs Benedict are delicious and the greek pies to die for!); Katerina at the Alexander Bar got me a quiet table to let me focus on my work and plied me with some delicious desserts; Nikos came to the room to help with a tiny maintenance issue and gave me some great local restaurant recommendations! Apparently, this year is the 150th anniversary of this amazing place - if they carry on with such attention to detail and care for their guests, it is easy to believe they have an equally long and brilliant future ahead!

A vendor of mine took their best customers for a 5 day stay in Athens.

The hotel is very magnificent from the outside. It is also located very centrally in Athens. You can walk almost anywhere, however there is a trolly stop right across the street in case you want to ride. Hop on hop off trolly for 20 Euros for the day. Upon arrival you are greeted exceptionally well. The staff is very welcoming and friendly. Most know English very well. Since we were with a group that took over the majority of the hotel, check in for us was much different than the normal person or couple. The property itself is maintained very well and clean. Several places to eat and drink on property. Our favorite was the rooftop restaurant, which is their main breakfast place. Service and food was great, but the views spectacular. The restaurant is glass on two sides, and that glass does open up, and you have great views of the city and the Acropolis. The rooftop bar there is very good as well. The rooms were very nice. A/C worked well and the bed was very comfortable. Fairly decent size room also for a downtown hotel. Maid service and turndown was awesome as well. Big tub in the bathroom. If you wanted to get picky you could say the walk-in shower was a bit tight. However, from water pressure to hot water it was great. This was a fantastic hotel all the way around. We would definitely stay there again.

    Hugely Disappointing

The lobby and central winter garden dining/bar area are beautiful. The praises end there. The basic bedrooms are grim. The room itself was so small that it it was challenging getting in and out of bed. The space is tiny, the furniture is ancient and stained and dented and worn out and ugly. There is essentially no room for more than a carry on bag sized suitcase - we had to clear the pint sized desk to place a checked in bag on top of it. The bathroom is small and dated and lacking in storage space. The small shower/bath combo is ridiculously designed and too narrow to comfortably stand in without fear of slipping. The chandelier above the bed has bent and dirty old faux candle lighting fixtures sitting at 45 degrees off vertical. The light fixtures on either side of the bed are similarly bent. The single nasty looking, uncomfortable, faded (maybe maroon or red decades ago) and stained chair in the corner of the room sums it all up - sad and unacceptable. There is no place to comfortably stand, sit, read, relax or sleep - not unless you do all that down in the lobby. A serious disappointment, history and public spaces notwithstanding. Not recommended.
