Riu Plaza was amazing
Riu Plaza was amazing! The staff was so accommodating. The food was delicious. The aesthetic of the lobby area was beautiful. I enjoyed my time there and would visit again.

Five star? Really?
We thought we were getting a great deal on a five star hotel but in reality, the Riu Plaza neither looks or feels in any way luxurious. Let’s start with the lobby; it feels more like a Russian bus station than a hotel. This hotel is immense with 600 rooms over 34 floors, the decor is super kitsch and not in a good way. There was a horrible drain smell in our room, a cracked and damaged mirror and mould on the grouting in the bathroom. The furniture was chipped, there were stains on the carpet and the place just looked nasty. There was no hair conditioner or body lotion in the room so we had to go trekking to a drugstore to buy these. There was no kettle or teabags, just a filter coffee machine and barely enough coffee to make one cup. Housekeeping brought us 2 x 500ml bottles of water every day except the last day when they forgot. There were no robes in the room. The only decent thing was the buffet breakfast but on Saturday morning it was so crowded that there were queues for the breakfast bar and you had to squeeze through the crowds to get to your table. Our cards kept failing to work in the lift, there was blaring horrible music when we came in on Saturday night. We would not recommend this place. If you want five star, cough up a bit extra and stay in one of the nicer places in Casco Viejo.

First visit
In the heart of the financial district, this hotel offers convenient walking distances. The breakfast buffet is outstanding with so many choices that everyone should find plenty to eat. The view from the higher floors is spectacular. This location is highly recommended!

Service is excellent
The service of the hotel was excellent. The staff was very attentive and communicated good. One of the employees of the tour company on the premises of the hotel was rude and without interest when we went to book a tour. We still booked a tour but will never make use of them again. The tour guide wa excellent. But one of the ladies at the desk is very rude.
