    Our favorite resort

We stayed here previously over 3 years ago, and it had loomed large as the most luxurious place we had ever stayed, and last week it lived up to the hype. The staff is so helpful, the rooms and grounds are beautiful, we loved all the food at the various restaurants. They have excellent recommendations for other restaurants to eat at and beaches to enjoy (and will drive you there!) Still our favorite place!

    a beautiful place

this is a special place....the location is great if you want to relax at the hotel or if you want to take a short ride to the beach which they will take you to if you do not rent a car. the staff is great and they are always very helpful and kind... the service in the suites with the selection of beverages and snacks is a great treat...you are not nickel and dime like other resorts... this is a real treat if you can get a chance to stay...

Misleading and likely better suited for short stays.

We had so many issues at this hotel, it simply wasn't the standard you would expect from a 5 star hotel. Issues were, cleanliness, housekeeping, the front desk were inattentive and forgetful regarding our requests, the standard of the room was POOR. Value for money just wasn't there, we were expecting to be staying in luxurious suites and they were old. Also please note the busy road, if you require peace best to stay near the beach.

The most relaxing and enjoyable vacation EVER

Overview ========= The Hotel Wailea is highly acclaimed as the #1 hotel in Maui. It is ultra-expensive, but I don't know how the price/value compares to other high-end Maui resorts. It depends on what's of value to you. If you want to be pampered, not be around "kids" (we enjoyed the "adults only" aspect), and if it fits within your budget, then this is the place for you. We spent a relaxing 14 nights in mid-January. It was the most expensive vacation we have ever taken, but It was also the most relaxing (by a long shot) and enjoyable one. We will be back! Check-in and the Staff ===================== The check-in process was smooth, and the staff was helpful and friendly. Valet parking is complimentary, and a staff member brings you and your luggage to your room via a golf cart. The Room ========== We were in Building 21, which has two upper and two lower suites. A small path and landscaping separated us from the pool. Our unit's lanai side provided a nice ocean view and was comfortable for breakfast. Another couple we spoke to in the pool was in a building next to the public street, closer to the ocean. It was often too noisy for them to enjoy the lanai or open the sliding door. When you make your reservation, you have no clue where you'll be. Upon checkout, the staff told me we could request a building or unit, and they'll do their best to honor that request. Our upper-level Celebration Ocean View One Bedroom Suite (#214) was spacious, had an ocean view, and came with some very modern touches. A high-tech Toto toilet senses when you've entered the small enclosed room. In an unsettling fashion, it opens the toilet cover and starts whirring and humming. The seat is heated, and the built-in bidet will wash and dry your bum. Bad news: now we want one at home. My wife loved the Dyson hair dryer, so hers has already arrived from Amazon. Note: Other suites may not have all the high-tech amenities we enjoyed. Our unit was well-stocked with soft drinks, and guest services honored requests for diet / zero-sugar beverages. There is also an assortment of complimentary snacks. We especially enjoyed the Maui Mix popcorn and had it replenished regularly. Tip: The empty Peak Tea bottles have a large enough mouth to accept ice cubes. Keep one or two on hand for cold water. Glassware is provided, but we were not crazy about using it. There's a small below-counter pull-out refrigerator/freezer (with ice maker), a Nespresso coffee maker, a hot water kettle for tea, a microwave, a toaster (we used it on occasion to reheat in-room dining toast), and a small kitchen sink with no garbage disposal. There are a few extra plates, glassware, cups and saucers, bowls, utensils, cloth napkins, paper towels and napkins. A deep tub is adjacent to a large walk-in shower, with an overhead "rain" head and a handheld wand. We enjoyed the shower and never ran out of hot water. However, there is no shower door or curtain, so you could make a big water mess if you're not careful. The bathroom sink is broad with a single faucet in the center. The space on either side for your toiletry gear is 6-9 inches, and it did not work well for my wife's make-up station needs. It's a one-person bathroom area, so a regular-width sink would have been a better idea and could provide an extra foot of counter space on each side. There are ultra-quiet ceiling fans in the king bedroom and the living room area. Both rooms had wall-mounted televisions, and connecting to a streaming device was straightforward. Connecting to Wi-Fi was easy, and we did not need passwords. However, we had to reconnect every device to Wi-Fi daily, which was annoying, especially while watching a program. It would have been even better if the Wi-Fi remained connected during the stay. The nightstands on either side of the bed have mag-safe charging pads for phones or tablets, which is nice for newer devices. However, there were no USB ports or power receptacles near the nightstands. I charged my older iPad in the bathroom, and my wife found an outlet in the corner of the bedroom to charge her older devices. Large lamps above each nightstand are dimmable as a pair from either side of the bed. The two bright overhead fixtures above the head of the bed are on the same circuit as the lamps. If one person wants to read, the other person may be annoyed by the lamp and ceiling light above his side of the bed. It would be even better to separate one side from the other and lamps from overhead lights. It was impossible to avoid the stairs to get into or out of our room. The pool and certain other facilities are accessible via ramps that are not well-marked and generally involve walking longer distances. If a member of your party has mobility issues, this could be a problem. You may request a golf cart shuttle at any time. The excellent staff was always eager to please and was a phone call or text message away. Breakfast and Food & Beverage credits ===================================== Our package included a $60 breakfast and a $200 daily food & beverage ("F&B") credit. I'm unsure if there's a "no credit" option in exchange for a reduced room rate. The daily credit amount varies with the type of room. Pricier rooms have higher daily credits. The way it works, as I came to understand it, is: Your breakfast credit is whatever you spend on any day, subject to your allowable daily breakfast credit. And, for any given day, your F&B credit will be whatever you spend that day, excluding breakfast, subject to your allowable daily F&B credit. Their accounting system makes auditing your credits challenging for you and the front desk staff. It would be better if these credits were applied daily on an as-you-go basis, making the trail much easier to follow. The menus are limited, and the food is expensive but excellent. The Pool ========= The pool is open 24/7, and it's heated. It is not warm, but it's also not shockingly cold when you first get in. It is refreshing. There is no deep end, and there are ledges around half the perimeter for sitting or lying in the water. There are four cabanas that you can reserve for a fee. If not reserved for the day, they're available on a first-come, first-served basis. It gets you out of the sun with enough space to lie down if you'd like. Lounge chairs on the cabana side (ocean side) are shady after 1p or so. Chairs on the bar side get more sun in the afternoon. There's a hot tub with a 6-8 person capacity. Towels are provided at the poolside, as are premium Project Reef 50SPF and 30SPF mineral sun lotions and a very refreshing cooling lotion with a lime scent. One or two servers take food or drink orders, and a chatty bartender is on hand. The poolside F&B service ends at 5 pm. Self-Park is a real squeeze ========================= Self-park is complimentary, but the spaces are narrow. If cars on either side of your space are on the stripes, you may be unable to open the door far enough to get out of the vehicle. Our full-size Dodge Charger rental was wider than usual and had oversized doors. Halfway through our stay, I considered returning to the valet parking but chose not to. I'd recommend renting a vehicle smaller than full size. Not every guest will need a rental car. The staff will shuttle you within a limited area until 10 pm, but we prefer to have access to a vehicle to explore as we please. Tip: Find a spot at either end of a parking section where no car is next to you on one side. Then, park forward or back into the place so the driver's door is on the side with no adjacent vehicle.

    Hotel Wailea Experience

The Hotel Wailea provided an excellent wedding experience for my daughter and her fiancé. Kimi and Jessica did a great job planning every detail, and hand a wonderful list of vendors to help create a beautiful wedding experience. The rooms all are lovely, and I noticed that you can always see or hear water from everywhere on site.
