Reviews scared me, but we had a good experience!
Just got back from a 5 night stay visiting for my high school senior’s spring break. I was really worried after the reviews but going with a group we couldn’t change. My expectations were pretty low after reviews but we ended up having a great time and reviews had me prepared. The water situation was fine. Bring a big thermal jug and find the nearest water and ice machine (ice on second floor). It is purified and tasted great. The glass containers left in your room can be filled up and put in the fridge for cold water too. I liked how they handled water and that was something I worried about before arriving. Also for dinner reservations, there is concierge available in every building and they want you to be happy and they want to help. They let me know when to check in with them as reservations would open up and we got into all the restaurants we wanted to. The app worked fine too. Can’t be lazy about it and you’ll get to experience the restaurants. Buffet near the main lobby much better than the one by the pool. Breakfast buffet was pretty good each day. We found the taco place across the street in the mall area and the food there was excellent (Taki-to). Would have ate there every day for lunch or dinner had we known about it sooner. The teens loved the chicken burgers and fries out on the beach. Drinks at the lobby bars were really good. The pool bar drinks were pretty good too (the pool bar under the waterfall). I took the can beer from my fridge and the little ice box from the room to the pool and iced them down each day vs drinking the draft beer. A little soft sided cooler would work too. The resort is beautiful and clean and the service was excellent. Everyone went out of their way to greet you and be sure you are taken care of. Very hard working courteous staff. No one got sick either and we were a group of 30. It’s not the Four Seasons but it was the right value for the cost. Also, the animals didn’t annoy any of us like some of the reviews suggest. Overall it was a great trip we all enjoyed.

Nasty food, beautiful facility
The hotel itself is quite nice, however after you turn down the $130,000 vacation plan (because they pressure you on the very first day) you will discover the food in mediocre (being generous) restuarant reservations are next to impossible to get, restaurants that do not require a reservation that are first come first serve they will not take your name to addit to the waiting list. and for lunch, there is 1 snack bar at the beach, krappy hamburgers, nasty chicken wings no snack bar anywhere at the pool. Of course there is always the buffet. Again, generously it is mediocre. Do not recommend this hotel based on my experience here

Poor Customer Service
We checked in to the Top End Maya resort on 3/25 and we're told our room wasn't ready. I was told the front desk would text me when our room was ready. I never received a text. Finally we walked up to the front desk and our room was ready which was supposed to be 2 queens or a King with Pull Out Sofa. Upon getting into our room and trying to make the sofa bed, it turns out it wasn't a sofa bed so there was no bed for me to sleep on. Upon calling the front desk they sent a maintenance person to make the bed. He told me he was sorry but this was not a sofa bed. Said they would try to get us a rollaway bed the next day, then woke us up after 10PM knocking on the door with a bed. The only I asked for was reservations to restaurants and they would not fulfill the request. DO NOT BOOK THIS RESORT!! THEY ONLY CARE ABOUT SELLING YOU A CLUB MEMEBERSHIP AND NOTHING ELSE!!!

Great experience
The starcafe has amazing options of food, coffee, desserts, entertainment. The entertainment at the resort is amazing the remember us like we’re their friends, my mom and o were doing Karaoke and we met Alexei, the next day he remembered us! Waved and smiled! :)

Beautiful facility but need to drop the sales pitches
The good: Grounds & Pools are beautiful and really well kept. Tons of activities to keep you busy, the kids club is really nice! Our 9 year old went for 1 day. Fire show was excellent! Staff were very lovely and attentive. Food was actually better here than in Punta Cana-lots of options-keep in mind it is resort food and although it is called a 5* resort- it is impossible to serve 5* meals to thousands daily! They obviously cannot employ Michelin trained chefs for their restaurants for the price point we are paying, so you just have to lower your expectations. We did have some stomach issues but again that is par for the course when traveling to another country. We had the Steakhouse, La Geisha, Gala night, Mexican themed buffet night and La Marina- we weren't crazy about La Marina as honestly all the fish/seafood is overcooked.(again when cooking for masses we get it- they sit under heat lamps and dry out) But they did have a TON of variety. We liked the hibachi since it was fresh and hot(and we didn't have to keep getting up to get food) The not so good: The membership Sales pitches: Upon arrival immediately the sales pitches started, we tried to be very firm and decline but they kept persisting. We asked for assistance to get reservations at restaurants since none available on app: "oh but let me tell you about how i can get you free massages". we said no thank you, then i asked about reserving a Bali bed- oh yes just let me talk to you about a special presentation and i can help you to rent one(turns out there were not any even available to rent) So it felt like if I needed to speak with someone to get help, I was going to have to endure pressure for a sales presentation. This for us was a HUGE turn off. I don't want to be accosted to purchase some membership when I have only been at the resort 1 day!!! At the breakfast buffet all around us every day I saw the staff sitting having these awkward breakfast' with strangers- i felt like i was at a used car sales lot rather than an upscale resort. Drinks: All the mixers contained this sucralose super sweet taste with a bitter after taste and made my throat itch- this was a major bummer for us- Never experienced this in Punta Cana- Not sure what was up with the potency of the alcohol but usually 2 drinks in and I feel the effect but even after 4 shots of don julio here, I felt No effect.....I thought maybe my metabolism was crazy with the change of temp-but same exact thing with my husband Size of the facility: For me- it was too big-we kept getting lost-the app map is not good and it felt cumbersome to have to walk 10 minutes to get to the beach or back to the room if someone forgot something-keep in mind beach front does not mean beach view so I missed being able to see the ocean while eating and while in the pool etc .. Beach waves were rough our entire stay so we could not go in farther than our waist. My recommendation to Iberostar is to separate their sales from their service- no guest should feel like they have to avoid greeting staff so as to not get another sales pitch or trying to have a relaxing breakfast with your family and all around people going over numbers and prices. Also invest in better maps on their app and signage throughout the resort.
