Wedding Review
My wife and I got married at the Iberostar Quetzal/Tucan recently and had an excellent experience overall! Nayeli and Berenice were our wedding coordinators and were extremely helpful in ensuring all the details of our day were organized accordingly starting months in advance. We had never stayed at this resort prior to our wedding, but couldn’t be happier with the location and amenities. The only complaint we had through the whole process was that our wedding contract stated wedding guests had to stay a minimum of three nights at the hotel, but when some tried to book online for that week the website was requiring a minimum of 4 nights. We were told guests had to call the hotel directly to bypass this, but several family members were told this option wasn’t available…but called back again a different day and the 3 night request was accepted. It just felt like there could have been better communication between these Iberostar teams. That was just one minor inconvenience we were able to overcome. We loved the hotel, animals, and restaurants and definitely recommend to anyone considering!!!

Great Family Vacation
We had a wonderful experience at Iberostar Quetzal. The entire staff at the resort were welcoming and very pleasant. Our room balcony was frequented by wildlife, and often saw monkeys roaming through the trees. The beach and water were amazing!! Our first day there was a bit of murk in the first few feet from seaweed. Each day the water got clearer, and was always clear after about 10 feet in, but or later days the entire beach was pristine. The sand was very soft. The resort pools were spacious, and you never felt like you were on top of anyone else. There was also an adult only pool, and a secluded pool that was a few degrees cooler in the shade. The food selection and variety was a plus. Nearly everything we had was delicious, from the buffets to the themed restaurants. We liked how the buffet changed items daily, but also had a variety of the same staples everyday. Drinks were good, and the bartenders got a kick out making the many virgin drinks my son drank on the trip. We loved strolling the jungle area, especially at night, and enjoying all the waterfalls, nooks, and jungle wildlife. All in all, I would highly recommend this resort to anyone. I would love to visit this resort again!

Same Iberostar. Good, but still the same.
First off, if you’ve never been, Tucan and Quetzal are really the same resorts. They’re just separated down the middle by wildlife areas, walking trails, and a few restaurants/theatre. So if you’re staying at one, you’re staying at the other also. Different lobbies, but same pools, same beach. My 3rd stay here but it’s been about 10 years since our last visit. Nothing’s changed. Clean, well kept. Good enough. Playacar is a great beach and so close to town. But just don’t expect high-end. Still good. Just not a 5. Nice palapas. Those they’ve kept up with. Great pool. Iberostars typically have great pools. Grounds and buildings are the same. Solid. Staff…maybe a step back. Ok. Only a couple standouts. Kenyan at the lobby. She was great. Pablo at the lobby bar; great kid. The rest were fine, friendly, to some not engaged at all. It’s ok. I’m fine with that. I don’t need pampering. But I’ve been here plenty. Coffee was the biggest challenge. 6am = open. But not necessarily ready. And they weren’t overly worried about it either. Coffee stations were great to have but as I said, not typically ready. Otherwise it was fine. Buffets were well cared for and plenty of options. No ala cartes for us.

Wedding party visit
My review is regarding 3 excellent people in their areas: Alfredo: at reception desk, usually pm shift i believe. Excellent, caring, smart, empathetic and dedicated member of the staff. I have some situations with my reservation and he promptly guide me, calm me and just was an absolute pleasure to work with. Wish all the best for him and he should be an example of how to attend and receive guests. All my party agree on that. Wonderful gentleman! Nayeli and Berenice: Now my fellow friends ☺️. They are in the wedding planning area of the group. Since day one my dear friend the Bride felt at ease and was receiving prompt information and guidance. They are highly prepared, ready to anticipate anything and doing all of that with a big smile on their faces and with a wonderful human touch that leaves brides and bridal party feel calmed and hear. I got to spend a lot of time with this ladies while I was on maid of honor duties and they are absolutely rockstars at what they do. Wedding was a dream and everything everyone including the couple could dream of! Congratulations ladies!

Great hotel, but there is room for improvement
My husband and I had an amazing 11 days in the resort. Beautiful grounds, wildlife, and the weather was cooperating. The check in was very fast, the staff in the reception is very friendly and polite. We stayed in building 25, which is in between the lobby and the beach. The room was clean, but dated. Unfortunately it was a challenge to adjust the water temperature in the shower. Sometimes it was either boiling hot or icy cold. Food is great, lots of variety in the buffet for breakfast, lunch and dinner. We ate only once in a la carte restaurant. It was Japanese, not really impressed. We did not go to see any shows, so cannot judge any of them. I want to say special THANK YOU to our waitress in the buffet. Her name is Elvia. She was attentive, friendly and went above and beyond to make our dinners enjoyable. Her positive attitude and warm personality really enhanced our meals. Another special THANK YOU to the waitress in the bar. Her name is Sandra. She is not only quick and efficient but personable and attentive. Always smiling. Overall the hotel is very good and we will come back.
