    Something you'll remember forever.

This is a small island with a modern property... completely self-sufficient for electricity and water systems. It's designed to accommodate two small groups of guests at a time, or one family of 8 people. The staff cook and tend to your needs and the private boat provides transport to the mainland whenever requested. 360 degrees of paradise!

Paradise found. Just half an hour from Granada.

Transport yourself to your happy place - this is it. Blissful. The water surrounding the island is clear, still, cool and full of minerals so floating, swimming, kayaking, fishing is effortless. The environment is five star. The rooms sooo comfortable, you feel like you're floating. The gardens could put the hot house at Kew to shame. If you're a bird lover you'll be in heaven in the early mornings twitching.

    Beautiful place

The owner of hotel La Polvera in Grenada took us to this beautiful island. Although we weren't able to stay overnight, we were very impressed. It would have been great to stay a few days. Instead we did some kayaking and stemming. Highly recommended...

    A tiny island paradise

My husband and I have traveled to Nicaragua 5 times over the last several years, always making the lovely colonial city of Granada our home base. On our last trip we had the good fortune of discovering El Recedo, a tiny island paradise in Lake Cocibolca, just 30 minutes from downtown Granada. El Recedo sits on one of the 365 isletas that were formed in the lake thousands of years ago by an explosion from the nearby Mombacho volcano. The exquisitely designed lodgings take full advantage of the idyllic setting, with fabulous views of the lake, nearby islands, and the volcano itself. With only two two-bedroom suites, your privacy is assured, and on both of our visits we had the entire property to ourselves. The isleta is perfect for a relaxing stay, with a gorgeous lakeside pool, plenty of places for lounging, and wonderful wildlife-watching opportunities. For the more energetic, there are kayaks for exploring the freshwater lake, and the option of a boat ride to visit other parts of the isletas. A full-time staff takes care of your needs, including your transport to and from Granada. The city itself can be quite hot at times, but at El Recedo you are always bathed in the cool breezes from the lake. For visitors to Nicaragua who want a unique and rewarding experience, without having to travel to far off the beaten path, a stay at El Recedo is the perfect choice.

    Highlight of our Vacation

Our family of 5 stayed at El Recedo earlier this week for one night. Though the few pictures looked lovely, we were unsure of what to expect. After checking in to the main hotel in Granada (Hotel la Polvora) we were driven to the marina and taken to the island by boat. Our communication with the staff leading up to our stay was always prompt and very helpful. The island itself is gorgeous from the landscaping to the perfectly placed hammock and outdoor seating. The pool is so much larger than we expected and my kids loved it. Views from every angle on the island are breathtaking. Our suite was so lovely- meticulously clean and luxurious. We made use of the kayak and our boat driver even took us on a sunset cruise. We shared the island with only one other charming family. This was the most relaxing part of our entire vacation and we would LOVE to return on our next trip to Nicaragua.
