High quality food and service
Great place for lunch ! Quality food and drinks and great service by the mostly French staff. We also rented beach chairs from the same place the next day and enjoyed the same food drinks while relaxing under our umbrella. Easy parking next to the restaurant

The best hotel on Orient but the workers need to fix their attitudes
We stayed here in April 2024 for our honeymoon. The hotel and rooms are totally adequate and beds are comfy. Breakfast is solid. Beach and location are wonderful. Some things to improve! I noted on our reservation that we were coming for our honeymoon. I feel like they could have decorated our room or gone that extra step to make us feel celebrated. The worst part of our trip was the workers/waiters at the beach. The first couple days, we spent quite a bit on drinks and always signed the bill when we left. We always left a generous tip. On the fourth day, we waited for someone at the restaurant to sign our bill and no one was there. We went back to our room. Moments later, someone was banging on the door. The waiter came back to our room to ask us to sign the bill. No problem. He gave us an enormously rude attitude despite us tipping him very generously all week. I understand it’s policy that we have to conclude and sign the bill. However, no one was there when we were waiting. Also, they had our credit card on file and we were staying there for a few more days. Did he think we were gonna NOT pay our bill? When we paid the last few days? And to give us a disrespectful attitude? It’s utterly ridiculous. Truly disgusting. That same waiter continued to give us nasty looks and ignore us on the beach during the week. Disgusting behavior considering we always tipped 20% and were paying guests of the resort. Gross.

Loved La Playa!
We loved our time at La Playa Orient Bay! The location was amazing - safe to walk around at night! Close to a wide selection of restaurants and other amenities. Some favourites were Bona Mama for a great deal on delicious pizza or L’Astrolabe for French fine dining. The restaurant on the resort was also amazing! The room was clean and kitchen was well stocked with dishes. All the staff were attentive and super helpful! Highly recommend staying at La Playa- it’s worth it!

Good stay with a couple issues
The overall experience was good but there was one BIG issue that would make us question if we would stay here again. The beach and location were great. There are several high end restaurants 5 minutes walk away and multiple places to get a drink and lunch up and down the beach within a short walk. The pool is really nice, it’s not on the beach, but we still enjoyed it. Room was very clean and no issues whatsoever. The view from the room is a little run down looking and not exactly what you would expect from a resort. The issues: They are stingy on the towels. You have to present a towel card and you only get 1 towel each. I’ve seen towel cards at cheaper all-inclusive resorts, but never seen this at a small boutique resort before. We would have liked to have 2 towels each, but this was a minor inconvenience. WiFi is strong enough but it kicks you out if you close your phone for even 2 seconds. You have to log back into the wifi over and over again and it gets very frustrating. You only get one old fashioned key, and the cost to replace it is 150 euros. It’s not a big deal but it’s added stress that you have to keep track of one key and if you have 2 guests that want to separate, there is only 1 key to share. The BIG ISSUE we had that really turned us off is how actual hotel guests are treated at the beach. We stayed 5 days in the most expensive suite room in the entire complex, yet we were treated like 2nd class guests at the beach area. We went to lay down on the chairs and after about 30 minutes, the beach attendant came over and told us we have to leave and go sit on the other side of the beach because apparently the area we were sitting in was for VIP guests (aka cruise ship guests). How can you treat cruise ship guests who pay $15 for a chair for the day as VIP, but ACTUALLY HOTEL GUESTS who pay a couple thousand $$ for a room are told they need to go to the non-VIP section. What made it worse is that during 5 days of laying out on the beach we were NEVER ONCE asked if we wanted a drink by the beach attendants. But for the cruise guests, La Playa Hotel staff rolled out the red carpet and were running back and forth making sure the cruise guests had a drink in hand at all times. Such a shame that La Playa would treat their own guests like trash and treat Carnival cruise day guests as VIP. Aside from this big issue, we really did enjoy our stay, but please beware you will be treated very poorly on the beach unless you come for the day from a cruise.

Disappointed this time
We were so disappointed with La Playa this time. In November 2023 we stayed at this hotel and loved it, so we decided to go back and spend another week, even though it was much more expensive than other hotels in Orient Bay. Apparently, the management was never there. It seems that housekeeping lacks training, and they would come in at odd hours. (one day at 9:00am, another after 3:30pm) They never change the water for the mops, taking the dirty water from room to room. Furthermore, they only changed the bed sheets after 5 days because I asked them to. The vane of the A/C was falling apart so we asked them for some tape to fix it and stop it from falling. Hopefully all this will be better after the coming renovation. We had to buy our own paper towels and dishcloths for the kitchen, as they don’t supply you with any, and our entire sink area was full of water due to the leakage of the coffee maker. What’s the use of a complete kitchen with detergent and sponge and nothing to dry the dishes/utensils with? The pillows were lousy. The rules for using the beach loungers and umbrellas seemed to have changed: you cannot take any of your own snacks, not even water. You must use their restaurant that now belongs to a separate owner. (this isn’t disclosed when making reservations and not standard in other St Martin hotels, where we have been coming to for the last 25 years). As a precaution for being rainy season, they taped out 1/3 of the parking spaces within the gates in case it flooded, even if the sun was shining outside; so, you had to park in the public parking lot outside of the property and walk to the hotel. By the way, we never saw this area flooded.
