Great location, lots of charm and fantastic reef for snorkeling

Visited with friends at the end of March/early April 2025. We wanted an adults only property, smaller resort with smaller buildings vs a high rise and ideally located on the beach, not hundreds of yards from the beach. Memories Jibacoa (MJ) checked all of these boxes and then some. Transport to the resort from the airport was seamless. If you’re headed here your bus will only have guests going to MJ or the property next door Memories Starfish. We booked premium and felt that it was worth it. Premium class has its own check in which was quick and informative. Overall we enjoyed our stay. The resort is very well laid out and easy to navigate. We loved the beach and service we received at the Premium portion of the beach. Lilyane or Lily was outstanding all week. We also enjoyed the 3 a la cartes and a special dinner for Premium guests - surf and turf! We actually also enjoyed lobster at two of the other a la cartes - El Ranchon and the Gourmet International and everyone enjoyed the Italian a la carte - Bella Cucina as well. The Gourmet a la carte was our favourite as it featured live music during dinner. The buffet for breakfast, dinner and lunch was adequate but quite repetitive and like many Cuban resorts it lacked options etc. ex. At this time of the year Pineapple, Papaya and Guava are in season so that’s the fresh fruit on hand every day. We also really enjoyed utilizing the option to eat our breakfast a la carte from the Italian restaurant - Bella Cucina. It’s a nice setting and not as busy or loud as a buffet can sometimes be. Premium guest services staff member Yeni was amazing to deal with. Always smiling and working hard to ensure guests needs are met. She was so kind and even managed to get us an additional a la carte dinner at the Gourmet International restaurant. In total we enjoyed 4 really great dinners. Beach/pool - the beach is the star of this resort. Plenty of chairs for everyone and lots of palapas and or shade trees. We really enjoyed the reef in front of the resort and snorkeled every day. Just a few feet into the water and you’ll see an assortment of sea life! Bring snorkel gear! It’s worth it. The beach is nice and close the resort buildings and also has a large beach bar and grill area with washrooms. One of the beach bar and grill servers Ru was one of our favourites here. We also enjoyed the pool later in the afternoon although it would be nicer if the pool stayed open a bit later. It closed every day at 6pm. The pool bar server Elaine? Was also a great employee whom we enjoyed interacting with. Take the free guided tour up the mountain behind the resort. We went with Nelson from the activities staff. Nelson was great and very informative explaining some of the local flora and the walk down was easier lol and we went through a few local properties and interacted with a few of the locals living on these farms. Round trip with a stop at two small shops at peoples houses was 1.5-2 hours. Throughout the week we usually grabbed a few cappuccinos from the very busy lobby bar after dinner and watched the nightly shows from different vantages. We never took in the piano bar or disco. Overall the crowd is 50+ and the resort is quite around 10-10:30pm which was fine for us. The ladies enjoyed massages at the spa and the pricing was very fair, esp. with a discount for booking Premium level. A highlight of our trip was a full day tour into Havana. Four of us left for a fun filled, informative and eye opening day in Havana with our guide Ronald Sosa Santander and his driver Mario. Look him up on facebook. You’ll get a kind, courteous and very informative guide. Overall the resort is positioned very well against a lush mountain backdrop, in a very quiet area with a gorgeous beach and fantastic snorkeling and it’s closer to Havana than all the resorts in Varadero. I know I mentioned Premium a lot and it should be noted that Premium doesn’t get you a better room just a few perks that we took advantage of and we felt it was worth it. The only room upgrade you can get is an Oceanview/Oceanfront room and while these rooms are very close to the water, we didn’t mind our view. There are really no bad buildings or views on this property. Being a Celiac I always found something to eat and if I went again I’d probably bring some More GF items like muffins, cookies etc but I didn’t go hungry lol. It would be nice though if the buffet and the a la carte menus had more labelling identifying he allergens but if you’re unsure you can speak to the staff and or avoid foods etc. My wife and our friends raved about the breads every day, especially at the Premium breakfast a la carte restaurant. Raved! The cappuccinos were always amazing too. We spoke with some other guests and many were repeat visitors for the consistent quality in food and service and outstanding location and care in keeping the property looking great. We travelled with Sunwing and the on site Sunwing rep - Mirena is a true rock star! Every day she is smiling and working hard to make sure everyone she speaks to is good and has all that they need. If you want to be busier Th ere is an array of daily activities scheduled but most people seem to make their way to the beach daily and stay until later in the day. Improvements? Sure, every resort could use some. Even with shortages and complications we felt the service and food and drink options were very good, albeit a bit limited but you should know this and keep your expectations in check if choosing a resort in Cuba for a vacation.

    a little corner of paradise

I have been going to Memories Jibacoa for over 20 years, sometimes twice a year. The hotel is in a beautiful setting right on a coral reef and surrounded by rolling hills. But the main asset of the hotel is its staff and a very dedicated management. The quality of the services they offer and the attention to clients is paramount and very personal. It is like coming home, everyone is very attentive and friendly and do their best so you have a good time. The atmosphere is relaxed but there are plenty of activities to keep you occupied all day and well into the early hours. I usually have a lovely early breakfast and a walk down the beach before going to yoga and then swimming in the pristine sea waters and looking at the fish. Most people go snorkeling and scuba diving to explore the stunning reef. The day entertainment, particularly Cuban Day every Friday, is the highlight of the week. Excellent music, dancing and local food and drink. Great shows every night, my favourite being Opera night when professional opera singers sing popular classic songs under the stars. An absolute treat even if you are not an opera fan. There is late night entertainment at the Disco and piano bar too. The food is plentiful, tasty and varied and there are 3 excellent a la carte restaurants to try. I have to mention the fantastic range of homemade bread and pizzas that they have. Best I have had in a long time. Going to this hotel is like going home for me and gives me a boost that makes me go back again and again. Well done Memories Jibacoa your efforts are really appreciated.
