    Beautiful Place!!!

The Occidental Caribe was a beautiful Place!!! Everything was amazing however the buffet food was a little bit of a struggle. If you can get into the restaurants they are really good. We had a wonderful concierge named Cliford who made sure every day was great for us. Booking restaurants and excursions he was very attentive. Also bring some bug spray. We didn’t really see any bugs but my boyfriend was bitten from the knees down by some bug that could be a no see um. We also had a great bartender named Katherine by the pool bar who was always bringing us drinks and was so friendly!!!! Don’t forget to tip your servers/bartenders!!! :)

    OK for the money

Stayed for two nights after spending three nights at another resort. We got a good price and decided to give Occidental Caribe a try. The good - the outside of the property is beautiful. The Mexican Restaurant and the pizza place were very good. Service was good, everyone was friendly for the most part. The bad - our room was about 10 years past its prime, ceiling in the bathroom constantly leaked, TV didn't work, balcony door was extremely difficult to open/close. room had a musty smell. The buffet was ok, not horrible. The drinks were good, bartenders were friendly. If the rooms were remodeled, it could be a nice resort. Of all the hotels, motels and resorts we have stayed, this is the first to charge $10 for not turning in a room key card. We were told at check in that we had to return the two pool towel cards, we were not told there would be a charge for the room key card. Seems very petty to me and for this reason we will never stay here again.

I would like to express my sincere gratitude to Cindy from the Concierge Team who went above and beyond to make our experience a positive one and was quick to resolve most of the issues we faced. She was checking on us daily to guarantee a good experience for me and my family. Gracias Cindy!!

Truthful Review - Having family with us made it bearable

Pros – beautiful beach and view, well kept landscaped property, a la carte restaurant food was good, buffet you won’t go hungry; Omelet station gentlemen for breakfast were the best and our family/friends Cons – watered down alcohol you can taste the difference, water from shower was brown always felt dirty, power outages all the time, A/C never went below 25.5 degrees Celsius, rooms are VERY old, electrical plugs coming out of the walls, pillows are lumpy so weird, bathroom fixtures are rusty, bath tub always looked dirty and so did the room (floors) even though the bed was made, supposed to be “family environment” spring breakers (7 days of them) were there overtaking everything including pools and restaurants with chanting, screaming all hours of the night in the hallway, kicking in doors – tried to call reception night after night but no one answers, finally talked to someone during the day and they had security during the “day” instead of “night” when the all the ruckus took place. I blame Management of Occidental Caribe for not taking a handle on things which affected other families that were on vacation as well. Beach towels were stained that didn’t look good, room towels were old and thin. Took hours to book a la carte restaurants for the size of the resort should be better process. Paid quite a bit of money for disappointment. Definitely will not be back unless we get a refund. Álvaro Fontenla, General Manager your responses on the bad reviews are the same I think you should really take to heart what vacationers are stating are the “real issues”. To get people to come back you need responses that the items listed will be addressed promptly and going forward you should not have any more bad reviews – my thought.
