Fabulous Massage!!
Fabulous massage by Dana! She had the best hands, I've never been as relaxed as after this massage. She did my hair as well and I couldn't stay awake in the salon chair! Make sure u dont have anything planned after the massage as you will need a nap!! Highly recommend the spa at Occidental Papagayo.

Best hidden gem
9 out of 10! Jacuzzi needed to be heated. Food is phenomenal, drinks are never ending and local. Large area, spread out suites. No a typical all inclusive. We loved the swim up bar, clean rooms, great housekeeping with flowers and towel designed into animals! Monkeys come in and out as do parrots and iguanas.

First Time in Beautiful Costa Rica
I booked this solo trip for celebration of my 56th birthday. I read all the reviews and decided to book, as I got a very reasonable price. I figured, I would make my own judgement, after reading about 100 or more reviews. I was excited to visit Costa Rica for the first time. I booked a transfer from Liberia airport with Ozzie Transportaion fof $65 one way. They were on time and reliable. I was happy with that after the lengthy time at customs and immigration wait. I got to Occidental Papagayo at about 3:00 pm Sunday 1/19/25. I had been scheduled for 1/18/25 however missed my flight due to closed parking lot at my airport in NYC. I emailed the resort to not give away my room as I was going to be a day late. They replied that they would put a note in my file. I also asked for building 1 room, as I was a solo traveler and did not want to have to walk around the resort alone at night. When I got to the resort, which is very beautiful, I was checked in by a staff member named Abraham. He took all my information and let me know there would be a wait for my room because it wasn't ready. I alerted them at what time I would be there and this was not acceptable. I also was not given a room in building 1, as requested. Not only was I put in building 16/17 but, he never gave me a card to get beach towels. I didn't know about it till check out. I had brought a few towels of my own. As the other reviews state, the resort is built on a hilly terrain. While very beautiful, if you have issues walking, it may be a bit of an issue. They do offer transportation, you just need to call for it. I only used it to go back to my room at night. There was always a driver available, which was nice. The bar, disco, outdoor sitting area, souvenir shop, buffet, Italian restaurant and Japanese restaurant are all in the same vicinity. The outdoor sitting area overlooks the gorgeous pool area. There is a smaller pool down the road, but I didn't bother going to it, as I sprained my ankle on an excursion on day 2 of my vacation and didn't want to aggravate the injury. The main pool is beautiful, and I was content there. The buffet food was decent, I always found something that I liked there. I would have loved more authentic Costa Rican food, but I understand not all tourists feel that way. I tried most of their desserts. They had a nice variety. Italian was good. I didn't try Japanese. Loved seeing racoons, so cute. Would have loved seeing monkeys, didn't.

Beautiful place, beautiful people, Terrible Food
The resort was stunning. The people were friendly until they weren’t. I cried several times over the food at this resort. Off the resort the food was great. We had stuff stolen from the bottom of our bags. We were told to take better care of our stuff. Considering how much was spent on this trip, the value was not there. We will visit Costa Rica again but definitely not here.

Girls week
Hotel is dated and not for anyone with mobility issues as there are many stairs to climb from the pool to the main building. Our room was cleaned daily and on the 3rd floor of bldg 1 which was good proximity to pool and restaurants etc., We collected some shells at the beach but not appealing to us fior lounging or swimming. A word about rooms on the main floors, there are very crafty raccoons that will enter room if doors left unlocked and also join you if you’re sitting out (friends were on this floor). The lobby bar was a favourite for drinks and cards and can recommend the spa, very clean and a great massage. Had a maintenance issue with a toilet, took 3 service calls but it did get fixed. 4 women 60+ we spent every day at the pool and while the stairs gave us a workout, it was a relaxing week.
