Our stay was great
The rooms were clean and the food was good. The experience team made our stay unforgettable especially Viri. She was very attentive, friendly and humble. She went out of her way to ensure we had a great experience. You can see she truly enjoys what she does. Thank you Viri for everything

Average experience - would not return
Definitely not a 5 start hotel. I would give it about 3.5 stars. Overall, we felt like for how much we spent, we had a good time and it was worth it. Would we return ? Nope. Pros - friendly staff and awesome experience team. Although overall the entertainment was lacking, the experience team did their best with what they had. They were definitely the highlight of our stay. - Food was good. We loved the buffet. The food at the Japanese restaurant was average as well as the Italian restaurant. Overall though, the food was tasty and fresh. No complaints. - Pretty beach. Although small, the beach itself was clean and scenic. - Gym - they renovated the gym and it shows. It's air conditioned properly and the equipment looks new and well kept. Cons - pool and beach umbrellas broken and falling apart. The latch on the balcony door was also holding on for dear life. Outlets broken and falling apart. - cleanliness: although our room was cleaned on a daily basis, our sheets and pillow cases had stains on them. - service: a mix of slow and non existent. At the two pools/beach there are only two servers. They don't really walk around so 9 times out of 10 you'd have to walk to the bar to get drinks. The buffet service is also slow. We had to wait a long time to be seated and a long time to even be offered water ( i would have gotten it myself but they didn't have a water station). - limited hot water - very hard to take showers. The water was at best lukewarm throughout our entire stay there. Most of the time, it was just cold. - lack of boutique stores and other entertainment options - when the weather was bad, when it was cold or it rained, there was literally nothing to do. They have 1 store and 1 small 'arcade' area with pool tables. Outside of this though...crickets.

Lovely two weeks here!
Hotel is truly the best I have been. Lovely own beach, very good all inclusive food and drinks (many fantastic ala carte restaurants, ice cream & smoothie bar, coffee shop, pool bar etc.) Clear rooms and super good air conditoner in it. Hotel has also a very well equipped gym. The staff is amazingly friendly and kind! Especially Viri from blue team, she was so warm-hearted and considerate! Also waiters in Dolce Vita and Blue Moon restaurants were awesome! A perfect two weeks in hotel, I really would love to return here. I really only have a good things to say.

ANOTHER GREAT STAY
We got back from OMR last week, having stayed ten days (need this to get over the jetlag from the UK!); it was my third visit and my husband's second. Overall it was wonderful - our room was large and airy (thank you, Luis), and there are now more sunbeds, although we did join the towel rat race at 8am to get two beds under shade, by which time all the beds by the pools have of course gone. The sound from the activity pool seems to have been turned down this year, which was a blessing as we found it obtrusive last year! Food was generally fine, although neither particularly like the Italian restaurant - zero atmosphere and not very Italian if you go to Italy most years like I do! The icecream still tastes extremely chemical, unfortunately, as my husband loves icecream. All the staff were once again brilliant, most greeting you with hola and a smile as you passed them in the very well kept grounds. Two irritating niggles, though - we went to La Hacienda for lunch each day and occasionally in the evening. On our last day (we were being picked up at 1.45pm) we went there as soon as it opened - no salad leaves and no serving utensils for at least 15 minutes after we arrived. On the Sunday we went for the Chef's Choice as it promised shrimp cocktail; we were there for over an hour and there wasn't a shrimp to be seen, but the waitress was insistent that there were shrimp! It seemed that there was no oversight of empty serving dishes, which remained empty for a very long time. The other niggle was the light on the balcony to our room not working; I like to sit on the balcony before bed and read. I reported this three times (twice to Reception, once to Guest Services), and was promised it would be fixed. As our stay progressed I noticed more and more balcony lights giving up the ghost, but nothing was done - a lack of maintenance workers or an electrical problem? It would have helped if there had been feedback to my request... Having said that, we thoroughly enjoyed our stay - lovely staff, good food, restful on the beach - and will certainly return provided that the price doesn't go up!!

An affordable option in Riviera Maya
Our recent stay at the Ocean Maja Royale Resort in Playa del Carmen was a wonderful experience, in spite of several days of unseasonal and unexpected rain, deserving of a solid 4 / 5 rating. What I Loved: The resort’s beachfront location is nice. The design of the property is unique with many 2 storey villas. The resort is not new but well maintained. Our room was very comfortable with a nice shower (no tub). The staff was friendly and attentive, often going out of their way to ensure a pleasant stay. Dining options were not as plentiful as some resorts, but most of our meals were tasty. The Italian place was not good, our server did not smile, the food was warm rather than hot when it arrived at our table. Surprisingly, the buffet was the most popular spot to eat! Quite delicious with plenty of variety. The pool areas were clean, offering plenty of lounge chairs and shaded spots. The adults-only vibe added an air of tranquility that’s perfect for couples or solo travelers seeking relaxation. Additionally, the nightly entertainment was a pleasant touch, providing a mix of live music and cultural performances. Room for Improvement: While our room was spacious and well-appointed, a few maintenance issues—such as a slow-draining sink, a sticky sliding door on to the balcony, and occasional noise from nearby rooms—detracted from the overall experience. The Wi-Fi connection is good. No issues. Final Thoughts: Ocean Maja Royale is a great option for anyone looking to unwind at a good resort that will not break the bank.
